Colton walks out of the bunker; he is hit by sunlight and the warm air. He covers his face from the light and adjusts to the new surroundings. He takes a deep breath and looks around. Colton was surprised and expected something completely worse but there were plants everywhere. There were a lot of living trees and plants. Some trees were completely dead because of the nuclear explosion. He noticed something unusual. Most of the trees have grown significantly larger and there are new trees and plants he had never seen before.
"Hey, do you copy? Over."
"Yeah, what's up."
"I forgot to give you my name, it's Colton and I got some questions. What the hell is up with some of these plants?"
"Well, Colton, you can call me Richard and to answer that question, you remember the bioweapon, right?"
"Yeah, wasn't it made to kill everything alive?"
"Yes, but it went wrong. You see it wasn't very good at doing that and for some reason, it evolved and started mutating things instead."
Colton with a concerned face walks up to one of the mutated trees. He immediately smells this deep pungent odor coming from the tree. He had to cover his nose. The tree has a thick bark with a massive green piece of what seems to be the heart of the tree.
"Are you making your way to us?"
"Yeah, hold on."
Colton walks away from the tree and looks at the city. A former of itself, now overgrown with thick vines all over the skyscrapers. He also noticed that a massive tree is in the center of the city where the major park is located. The tree was gigantic, it was slightly taller than the skyscrapers around it and had an odd green core in the center. He starts walking towards the city.
"Hey, Richard you still there?"
"Yeah, you need anything?"
"What's up with that super big tree, like damn it is crazy-sized!"
"I don't have much idea of what it is, but most other survivors called that thing the tree of life or whatever."
"Oh, wow can you-. "
"What was that?"
"Hold on"
Colton hears a rustling from behind him. He pulls out his gun and gets ready.
"You ok, Colton? What wrong"
"Yeah, I just heard some rustling from behind- "
Out of nowhere, a large fly-like creature pops out. Colton fearfully points his gun at the creature, his hands trembling from fear. Colton's heart starts racing, his eyes looking straight into the creature's eyes.
"STAY back" he shouted.
The creature floats there staring at him. Colton walks backward slowly as he trips over a rock. Just then the creature charges.
*Bang*
Colton fires the gun, hitting the creature straight in the head. Light green material flies over his pants. Colton panics and tries to control his breathing. He gasps for air; he has never seen anything like that before in his life.
He picks up the radio.
"H-hey Richard?"
"What happened, are you okay you sound like you're having issues breathing."
"S-so this big fly thing appears right? A-and I shot it since it charged me. What the hell is that thing!?"
"It seems like you encounter the hell fly. It was originally a normal fly but mutated. They usually are scavengers most of the time like some creature here but like most, they will hunt when they need food."
"Most creatures? You're telling me I might have to deal with more hellish things like that?"
"Most likely as the city is infested with things, so be careful getting here."
Colton collects himself; his breathing still unsteady. He begins walking towards the city once again—this time with his gun ready always. The Sun starts settling over the city, the sky still the same orange as before.
