Chapter 54 - Chapter 54 - Infiltration

In order to glide into the compound, they would be using wingsuits made from smart fabrics that adjust their properties based on the wearer's body position and environmental conditions and even include small propulsion systems for an extra boost.

They would cover their entire bodies and use refractive technology combined with active camouflage to fool an average person's eyes when combined with the dark night sky as a background.

Obviously, none of this would help against the facilities sensors and automated defences, which would shoot them out of the sky before they even got halfway there, even if they remained undetected by the actual guards.

But this is why they needed a talented hacker to ensure the defences would ignore them. Although this was not a particularly advanced facility, Nahkimov Corp was still a powerful company, and the firewall protecting their defences from being hacked would reflect that.

While the others were preparing the suits, Kay and Ivar looked out over the facility. Kay turned to Ivar and asked, "So, can your little hacker friend get us in?"

Ivar was holding the uplink he got from Alita back at Sanctuary as Selene used it to infiltrate the facility's defences via cyberspace.

He looked next to him at Selene, wearing her standard skimpy hacker's outfit, who made a peace sign and said, "Leave it to me!"

So Ivar shrugged and turned to Kay, "She says she's got it. I'll let you know when we get a green light."

Kay looked a little suspicious, "Fine, but you're going over the edge first. I don't trust that hacker of yours yet, and I'd rather not die by being helplessly shot out of the sky."

Confident that Selene would not take any chances with his life, he nodded, "That's fine, but if you still haven't jumped by the time I'm halfway, I'm turning around. I'm not assaulting that place on my own."

After getting Kay's agreement, they moved to put on the wing suits that the others had prepared and crouched down in a row at the roof edge, waiting for the green light.

Selene sounded in Ivar's head, "Alright, I'm still getting the hang of this hacking thing, but by sheer virtue of my superior processing ability, since I am basically using both our souls as my rig, I should be able to make something work.

I can flood the outside defences with garbage data, allowing you a short window of time to glide in. Luckily, the only turrets are located on the walls and can only point to the sky, so as soon as you are inside, you will only have regular security forces to deal with.

Although you should know they will be aware someone did something, they just won't know why or what exactly until they actually discover you."

Ivar nodded and turned to Kay before relaying what Selene told him.

Kay looked thoughtful but said, "Well, we didn't really expect much better than that; go when you're ready. We'll follow."

As soon as Ivar got the green light from Selene, he jumped off the roof and spread his arms wide to make the suit catch the wind.

Since he had very little experience using technology like this, Selene was operating the suit's thrusters for him.

He looked behind to make sure that the rest of the team was following, and only when they did would Selene start to set him down.

Ivar couldn't help but remark to Selene, "How about we make the next transformation we add a flying type? This would have been a lot easier if I had my own wings like Alita and Noa."

A thoughtful-looking Selene appeared next to him, "You know, although the Valkyrie transformation obviously doesn't exist in the genes of the therian progenitor, I might be able to somehow copy their transformation onto you since it is still a therian transformation.

Should I look into it?"

Ivar was slightly surprised but nodded, "Yeah, why not? But I'll only bother with it if that transformation actually has the ability to manipulate light."

Meanwhile, the other members of his team had started landing next to him as they all pressed themselves against the wall to avoid detection.

They quickly removed their suits, as they were unwieldy and only really camouflaged when against the black canvas of a dark night.

Kay addressed Ivar in a hushed tone, "Alright, according to the plan, this is where we split up. The others and I will infiltrate the warehouse and start looting while you head for the lab to grab those lenses.

After completing both objectives, we will assault the guard station from behind and make a run for the cars.

If the alarms sound before then, try to find your way to us, and we will attempt to fight our way out. Stay on comms, but no useless chatter, got it?"

Ivar simply nodded, as this had all been agreed upon beforehand.

Ivar ducked low and started sneaking in the direction of the lab's testing area, at least according to the blueprint of this base that Selene had managed to grab.

It was a shame he couldn't use his chameleon transformation for this since it wouldn't actually hide his armour, and since he was expecting to be in a fight soon, he would prefer to keep his armour.

Of course, that was mostly because Ivar was currently restricted in what he could use during the fight, as he didn't want to give away the fact he was what this world considered a myth.

He came across a few patrols rushing around in a panic, seemingly searching for something as they knew the base systems had been messed with, so they were now simply looking for anything or anyone that seemed out of place.

Luckily, Ivar managed to remain out of sight until he reached the testing facility, where Selene worked to turn off the security on a window, allowing him to slip through.

When he was inside, he noticed he was in a sort of holding area, which actually held a number of people, presumably bums from the slums, that no one would miss.

They looked miserable as they were packed closely together, but they also seemed particularly unresponsive to anything that happened around them. He noticed their pupils were all dilated, so they were probably being kept calm with plenty of drugs.

He shook his head but moved past them all, as this was not his problem.

The light in this place was glaring, and the walls were extremely white, causing Ivar to quickly realise he would have trouble getting through this place undetected, as he was already lucky there was no one in this room.

He asked Selene, "Selene, do you have any access to this building's cameras?"

Unfortunately, the response was negative, "No such luck, I barely managed to unlock that one window, anything else, and they will surely notice me and then things will only get harder."

Ivar nodded and seemed to come to a decision as he quickly stripped himself down until he was naked and activated the chameleon transformation by changing only his skin.

His skin quickly shifted as green scales appeared over his entire body until he was covered with them.

Immediately afterwards, he stashed his gear in a corner as his body started blending in with the environment, making it much harder for anyone to see him if they didn't look directly at him.

He moved out of the room with calculated precision as his skin's surface continued to ripple and shift as it reacted to the surrounding environment, blending into the pure white, metallic walls.

His first goal was to find someone who could tell him where the lenses were located, so he stalked through the halls, searching for a researcher to extract information from.

He could try a guard, but they were less likely to know anything or give in to intimidation.

As Ivar continued his infiltration, following the same blueprint he had used earlier, he came across several patrolling guards, who he carefully avoided but didn't see any scientists.

Presumably, they were put on lockdown since the facility itself had entered a heightened state of security after Selene scrambled their defences for a moment.

Luckily, he eventually came across a lone man in a white lab coat making coffee in what looked like a break room.

Ivar snuck up to him and shifted his right hand to that of his wolf form before he quickly grabbed the man by the throat, making sure his sharp claws tickled the man's soft skin, and he whispered in his ears, "Make a sound and die."
