"Miss Amanda is back!"
The housekeeper announced loudly, and the laughter in the living room ceased abruptly. Amanda Smith stood at the entrance of the hall and immediately noticed Tasha Moore sitting on the sofa next to Mrs. Johnson.
Why was she here?
Amanda's eyes darkened slightly, but the smile on her face remained unchanged. She handed her briefcase to the housekeeper, and gave her a tight-lipped smile.
For some reason, the housekeeper felt a bit guilty under Amanda's smile.
The loud conversation she had in the hall was meant to alert Mrs. Johnson and the others; now the consistent smile on Amanda's face seemed somewhat unfamiliar to her.
"Mom," Amanda approached Mrs. Johnson with a beaming smile, the picture of attentiveness and sweetness, as if Tasha Moore's presence did not concern her at all, "we have guests today? Why didn't you tell me, so I could have prepared?"
