The woman who was always so tender and smiling brightly in front of her was nothing but a disguise.
"Elly Campbell!"
James Campbell's face turned a livid shade of ashen fury, "Since you don't consider me your father, do you believe I can throw you out of the Campbell Family?"
"Do you even believe that yourself?"
She raised an eyebrow, propped her hands on the table, and tilted her chin up arrogantly as she retorted.
Watching the expression of embarrassed anger emerge on James Campbell's face at her words, the corners of her mouth lifted in a fearless sneer, obviously mocking him.
"Why don't you think carefully if you're perhaps misunderstanding your own abilities?"
"You..."
James Campbell, being ridiculed in front of his son-in-law Adam Jones, had already lost all face.
If he didn't find an opportunity to regain his dignity now, he would never be able to hold his head up in front of Adam or the Jones Family ever again.
"Elly, Sophie has the same blood running through her veins as you do, whether you want to admit it or not!"
Although he had spoken the words, James Campbell's eyes betrayed his lack of confidence.
Elly couldn't believe that James Campbell, such a cowardly man, would stoop to such pettiness over an illegitimate daughter.
Unfortunately for him, Elly Campbell had always been a tough nut to crack. The little warmth she had ever possessed had been given to Adam Jones, but in the end, she had only managed to move herself.
A snort of derision came from Elly's mouth, and the icy cold in her eyes, like a millennia-old ice that wouldn't melt, swept over the faces of James Campbell and Sophie Baker.
"Have you become so useless that all you can do is behave petulantly? James Campbell, get one thing straight: who gave you your current status!"
"Elly, you... I'm the head of the Campbell Family. How dare you speak to me like this?"
When James Campbell said this, his eyes were clearly evasive.
There were some things that others didn't know, but he was well aware.
Elly just laughed casually, facing James Campbell's rage without any hint of anger. Instead, she looked at him as if he were a joke.
She carelessly raised an eyebrow, "Head of the family? If you're so confident in your status, why don't you try it?"
Sophie Baker had been sitting quietly by the side, but each of Elly's words was uttered with such confidence. It was clear that Elly didn't take James Campbell seriously at all.
Sophie knew when to step forward and when to step back. No matter how arrogantly Elly flaunted her legitimacy, the Campbell empire was ultimately James Campbell's.
As long as she played the role of the good daughter, she would naturally get her share of what was in James Campbell's hands.
The more aggressively Elly pushed, the more James Campbell resented her, and the less likely she'd get a penny from him in the future.
In the end, wouldn't everything fall into Sophie's lap?
That's what she naively thought to herself.
James Campbell didn't expect Elly to press him so hard, and for a moment, he was at a loss.
Whether he could kick Elly out of the Campbell Family was something he knew best.
"Dad, don't be angry with sister. Sophie really doesn't mind. As long as Dad treats me well, it doesn't matter if I enter the Campbell Family or not."
Taking her opportunity, Sophie interjected, her eyes brimming with pitiable tears.
"Sophie, dear, don't worry. Even if you can't formally join the Campbell Family, Dad won't let you be wronged."
James Campbell patted Sophie's hand, with a look of tenderness in his eyes that Elly found ridiculous, as she watched on. Furthermore, the words James Campbell said made Elly find him rather laughable.
James Campbell's true intentions were crystal clear to her.
