Chapter 7 - Escape

Chapter Seven

Zane stared hard at her, not knowing the next words to proceed out of his mouth. She looked like a frightened Chicken as her hands covered her mouth in fear and tears circled her eyes. He knew this girl was helpless, used, and brutalized than anyone in this pack which amounts to a zero possibility of her doing anything to Cypher.

But he was confused, Cypher had left his room feeling restless and he asked him where he was heading only to tell him that he needed to check on Kaylan to be sure she didn't die and caused a stir in the pack as she had collapsed at the general Pack's meeting.

"Are you deaf?" He seethed, straining his voice so he wouldn't yell at her. She had already received too much yelling that her eardrums would be affected by now.

"I'm so sorry Beta, I..d.. don't know what's wrong with the Alpha." She quivered, her lips vibrating as she stared at the icy blue eyes that were piercing into her. He looked mad and confused and she hated this side of him.

"But he talked to you Kaylan, didn't he?" He asked, feeling frustrated as he went inside and saw the mighty Alpha, unconscious on the floor.

Could it be that he met with someone else, or did she poison him?

The possibilities were there, she could do that but with what Audacity?

Kaylan was a broken lamb, she was harmless and destroyed, so he couldn't back up such accusations without serious proof.

"I…He didn't talk to me." She lied and Zane raised his brows.

"I saw him along the terrace of the hall but he didn't talk to me." She lied again and as she recalled Cypher's words about not letting a soul hear a word.

She couldn't dare risk it.

Cypher would kill her.

"Don't let anyone hear about this Kaylan, I needed something to let me–" He swallowed, not using the right word to describe Cypher's state, he dropped his shoulders with a heavy sigh and left her sight.

"We should check him, Kaylan." Her wolf muttered in worry and she hated it. She hated how worried she sounded, she disliked the fact the mate bond would make her more miserable and she had to do something quick to stop it.

She didn't mind getting her rejection, she would accept it wholeheartedly but from her conversation with Cypher, he didn't look like one who was ready to reject her but to punish her as his star gift. His creativity never seemed to be drained as long as he tormented her in pain.

She ignored her wolf and went back to wash the dishes when Layla poured a large amount of soapy water onto her whole body and she shivered in shock.

"Did I ask you to wash the dishes?" She screamed at her and Kaylan was confused.

"You wish me to paint myself as the black wolf and take in the portrait of white sheep huh?" She huffed in hot fury, staring at her in disdain.

"I don't understand what you mean Layla."

A hot searing slap mixed with the dirty soapy water on her face sent stars to her visions and her insides quaked with anger.

"You had the effrontery to report my errands to the Beta huh? Who the hell do you think you are, you sly witch!" Layla screamed and dragged her hair almost pulling at her scalp and pushing her hard to the heap of ceramic plates that lay neatly on the plate's stack, ready to be rinsed; everything crashed down heavily on her body and Kaylan yelped in pain.

"Not only are you appearing in public important gatherings, but you're also reporting me!! You want to die, Kaylan! You did."

"I didn't say a word, Layla!" Kaylan cried out but it was useless. She was so angry that her burning eyes promised her hell.

"Get the hell out of my sight and don't you dare stay back from this kitchen when you're done with Alpha Gareth!" She snapped at her immediately and walked away leaving her in sore pain.

She felt cold liquid seeping down at the back of her neck and her heart ached in pain.

What was she going to say to Gareth?

She was sure as hell he was going to get mad for the stunt she displayed at the meetings. The full moon is fast approaching and he would do all it takes to have the throne when it doesn't belong to him.

"I can't feel him, Kaylan!" Her wolf growled and she cried out in frustration.

"No Lina! Don't do this to me, please. You know we can't have him. He would never see me as his mate, so stop complicating things for me please."

"He's mine Kaylan! I need him." She ignored Kaylan's words instead and didn't care about anything else at that moment but to be with her mate, to make sure that he was okay so that she would be at ease and Kaylan cursed. She's heard how the mate bond was powerful, it was ethereal and so natural that it was impossible to decline the feeling.

But how can she feel such a demon, to someone who might snap her neck in a second?

She hated her fate so much.

"I wonder why I serve you if this was the only gift you had in mind for me. It hurts so much that I get to be a curse in this land and you ended up adding more curses to me! Cypher of all people and animals that existed?" Kaylan wept bitterly, directing her frustration to the moon goddess. She wished she could yell out her pains without anyone asking her if she was mad or normal.

Her heart squeezed in pain as she wiped her tears and made the dreadful journey to meet Gareth.

"What the fuck happened to you, Kaylan!" He roared instantly the moment her scent wafted through his nostrils and turned to her.

She was so scared to say a word, too confused to argue with him as all she did was bow her head in silence.

"I'm sure I'm not talking to a ghost."

"No Alpha." She whined.

"Then speak, what the hell happened when we were about to seal off the damn meeting?"

"I.." she swallowed, not knowing what to say. "I felt so weak and dizzy."

His eyes gauge her expression, trying to observe her actions if she did it on purpose but he knew she wouldn't dare. He was so pissed and scared at the same time but what burned him in fury was when his brother moved to claim her in such a hurry like that.

"I don't give a rat's ass about your state, but dare pull such strings again in public and you're freaking dead!" He commanded harshly and she nodded.

She couldn't dare raise her eyes even though she took a glance at him, he was dressed in his black leather pants, and the shirts he wore glued to his body like his second skin, displaying his manly features to make anyone crazy.

"Good, we'll leave for the council Hall tomorrow morning. We need to finalize what we had started as the full moon is in three days and I can't fucking risk it."

Kaylan gasped out in shock, failing to hide her expression.

"You're going to be my Luna immediately, that damn document needs to be signed and the mating ceremony will take place during the fool Moon." Gareth ranted on, not giving a damn about her expression. He could already picture himself as the crowned Alpha of the Pack and nothing was going to stop.

He knew his brother was hopeless when it came to taking a lady for Luna and would be shocked to discover that he stopped so low to take their maid instead.

That moment he said those words, Kaylan knew she needed to act fast, she needed to run to flee and escape the impending doom that awaited her but she found her legs running to Cypher's royal Pack room instead.
