Chapter 62 - part 61

Third Person POV

+

Adam's been a raging beast from the moment he got the news of his little angel getting kidnapped.

It's been a whole week since he heard her laughter or seen her pouting lips whenever her mother reprimand her for pranking others.

The house has been deadly quite ever since she's gone, Emma cried for the couple first days but she suddenly stopped showing any kind of reaction whatsoever and that concerned him.

He was afraid of her shutting off like she did four years ago when she regained her consciousness and found out about her forgotten family. She was more like a walking dead than an actual human.

His mind couldn't begin to register the happenings from the past few days let alone figure out who's responsible for this or plan his next move. He was as if frozen in the same spot, unable to move a muscle from his place.

This feeling was odd but not unfamiliar, he only felt it a couple of times in his life. When Emma disappeared five years back and he couldn't find her anywhere no matter how hard he searched, or when he finally found her only to be told she may not be able to make it out alive of the OR and if she does she will not be the same person he knows.

This dreadful feeling of helplessness is driving him nuts.

What does his title as the Protectors leader and the ruthless and well-known businessman mean if he's incapable of protecting his family.

"Sir, why don't we start with Müller?" Jeff suggested when he saw how distraught his boss was.

"Why Müller?" Adam asked.

"It's odd how he disappeared with young miss without any sign of struggle." Jeff answered his disoriented boss.

Something seemed as if finally snapped in Adam's mind and he speed-walked out of his office. Jeff went to follow him out of the room, but he yelled at him to stop.

A couple of minutes later he was upstairs, outside of his bedroom. He barged in just when she came out of the bathroom.

"Honey, you came? Good, I was about to call you." Emma said before he could utter a word.

"Why?" He asked.

"You told me to tell you when that number contact me again." She told him.

"Did they?"

She nodded her head towards him. "They did." She said before heading towards the night stand, took her phone, unlocked it and showed it to him.

Have you done what I asked? Adam read the message silently before he handed the phone back to her.

"That's it?" He asked, his tone suspicious and stance stiff and tense.

"Yes?" Emma sensed the change in him almost instantly. "What wrong, Adam?" She asked.

"It's you, isn't it?" Adam said, cautiously studying her.

"I'm what?" Adam could see the hint of the smirk that she was trying to cover with the fake confusion, for a moment there his mind traveled to that fateful day. When she left him to death, the last thing he saw of her was the evil smirk before she turned her back on her five years ago.

"You got your memories back?" He asked

"Took you long enough to notice, dear husband." She finally allowed the ugly smirk that was begging to be set free to etch on her features.

"Did you?" Adam didn't know why he was so angry mad forceful in his tone, but he was.

"No, I didn't." She replied, casually.

"Then?" Adam asked, his tone urgent.

"Apparently I was indeed smart." She said vaguely.

"What do you mean? What happened?"

"Müller happened." Emma replied. "According to him, I knew my time was approaching, that it most probably come before I get the chance to execute my revenge on those who wronged me and my late mother, so I decided a plan only my most trusted people knew of." She told him.

"And?"

"Müller was to refresh my memories when the right time comes if by chance I come out alive but without memories." She said. "He was to bring A.L back to life." She added.

"And how did you know A.L was ever to be needed again?"

"Don't insult my intelligence, hubby." Emma chuckled humourlessly. "A.L is the only reason I was alive for that long, you of all people know if not for A.L I would be six feet under before you even knew of my existence." She told him.

"I doubt that." Adam murmured to himself, only Emma heard him loud and clear.

"What is that statement supposed to mean?" She asked.

"You'll know soon enough, let's focus now on your story first." He told her. "How did you know when to have Müller execute the plan? And why did you think A.L will be needed?" He asked.

"I knew A.L will be needed because as long as the lone heiress to my mother's empire is alive and well, A.L will have to step in to block the lurking wolves in the darkness. Because if Emma Sampson is no longer then her offsprings will be facing the same fate as hers, a life of confinement and loneliness. According to Müller, Emma Sampson knew she had only a little time left yet she chose to use it to protect her supposedly loved ones, like a fool." Emma's tone was both mocking and resentful. "I don't need Müller telling me to know if not for him even A.L wouldn't be able to safe Emma Sampson's ass." She added bitterly.

"You do know, Emma Sampson is you? Why do you make it seem like you're talking about a whole different person?" Adam asked.

"I can't imagine myself to be so dumb, Emma Sampson was nothing but a brainless fool. Müller said we were taught to never trust our emotions. Why did she discard that one simple rule, and got herself played by a bunch of useless old geezers. Müller distanced himself from his father because his job as her bodyguard required him to, but she had to shove her head into that Papa fucker's business and wasted her precious time being played like the puppet she was." Emma's eyes literally were spitting fire. "I'm different, I move only to where my benefit and the one of my children is. Nothing should surpass one their benefit and nothing will." She added.

"Why did you trust me then? Müller must have told you what happened years ago?" He told her.

"Haste makes waste, dear husband." Was all she said.

Adam raised an eyebrow in question. "Yeah?"

"One of the many mistakes Emma Sampson did was to trust others blindly, she jumped into conclusions when someone told her some partially correct information." She told him. "Though I do like the explosion part, it was quite innovative and bold." She confessed smirking at him while wiggling her eyebrows.

Adam rolled his eyes at her.

"The point is, I don't like acting in a spur of a moment. I like planning and studying my targets before I do anything." She said.

"That's why you confronted me the other day?"

"I hoped if I acted the way Müller said the Emma from five years back did, I would gain your attention enough to open up the topic with me. I was a great actress, wasn't I?" She joked.

"You were rather accepting of whatever I told you." He stated, disbelief clouding his orbs.

"Again, just because I suffer from amnesia doesn't mean I'm incapable of reading people. I know when to believe and whom to believe." She said rolling her eyes.

"So you believed me just like that?"

"I mean, you did say you'll be telling me whatever you hid and still are hiding from me when the time comes. And I think that time is now." She told him.

"You still haven't told me what you and Müller are up to, and where our daughter is." Adam reminded.

"I'll tell you everything," she promised. "But after you tell me your secret, Müller told me it's crucial you tell me for us to know what we're exactly dealing with and what we should expect." She told him.

Adam spent awhile silent before he spoke.

"Alright, it's about time you know everything anyway."
