Chapter 45 - part 44

Third Person POV

+

Eight long months have passed since Michael's visit, and it's safe to say that the lives of the Knights have changed drastically in those eight months.

Emma grew distant with each passing day and Adam was either ignoring the obvious signs that the change in Emma was not because of her pregnancy hormones, or he really didn't notice something was wrong because of how busy he became the past few months. His work consumed almost all his time, he barely had time to come home before dinner was served.

Which saved Emma a great deal of headache because if he noticed the difference, questions would be asked, fights would start and Emma had no energy to deal with any of that as of right now.

She was waiting patiently for her little baby girl to be born and to make sure she was safe before she continues her search for the whole truth. And just like the man said with the information she got from Michael and Müller she was able protect herself properly.

She surrounded herself with her people only, she never got out of the main house unless she had to do some walking then she would walk around the premises with Müller or Jürgen after dimming the lights of the certain area they're going to walk around just in case unwanted guests were lurking around. On nights where the moon was high in the sky the lights would be switched off, and the area surrounded with tight security.

She also made sure no one knew of her pregnancy, she told Adam to never tell a soul about it that she didn't want people to jinx it. She also fired all of the house help and replaced them with people of her own, people who knew what would happen if they crossed her, and she left them in the good hands of Greta who was trained personally by her.

And lastly she cut off communication with both her brother and Papa, which was a bit awkward seeing that they were people whom she can never skip a day without talking to and make sure they were fine. Now, they were just people who stabbed her in the back in her most vulnerable moments.

She came to loathe the idea that they exist under the same sky as herself.

Emma was sitting in her room, reading a book when Jürgen barged in.

One look at the heavy breathing man, she knew something was wrong. "What happened?" She asked alerted.

"You have to come downstairs, the training ground was attacked. Giuseppe's hurt." He said as he went to her side to help her up and down the stairs.

Emma almost had a heart attack when she heard him, so when she entered the living room she went straight to Giuseppe who was holding a packet of ice to the back of his head while Müller is disinfecting the wound on his forehead. "Giuseppe! Are you okay? How did this happen?" Emma shot question after another at no one in specific while examining the little boy's body with his face cradled in her hands gently.

"Somebody answer me, what the hell happened!" She repeated when nobody spoke.

"I'm okay, mom. Just a scratch while I was training." Answered Giuseppe, taking her hand in his to assure her he was indeed fine.

"Don't play me for a fool, young boy! Those are not training injuries." She scolded. "Now tell me who attacked you?" She demanded.

Four sets of eyes flew towards Jürgen, shooting daggers at him. "You told her!" Giuseppe and Müller both hissed at him.

Jürgen stumbled back a bit. "I was still under the shock so I don't remember what I told her exactly." He defended himself.

"Who was it? Your father?" She asked Giuseppe.

"No, it was not. I don't know who were they but they did not seem like my father's men, even their ways of fighting was different." He told her.

Emma's eyes shot to Müller, they seemed like they were communicating with their eyes for a brief period of time before she turned on her heels and got out of the room. She stopped Jürgen from following her.

She dialled the number she knew by heart by now. "It's time you tell me where that bastard is." She said as soon as the call connected.

"Not yet-"

"Listen to me carefully, you bastard! Those son of bitches attacked the training ground where my son was training. The reason behind this attack is either a warning or an attempted murder, so you will tell me where that bastard is. I have to know the whole truth so that I can plan my next move well." She raged.

"But you can't do anything in your situation." He argued.

"I'm pregnant, not crippled! Besides I don't use my hands unless it's absolutely necessary." She told him.

"Okay, I'll send you the address. Be there 8:00 PM sharp." He said, then he hung up.

~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~

Few hours later, Emma was sitting in a black tinted SUV with the man Müller and Jürgen dragged out of the abandoned warehouse that was in the address the guy sent her.

They found him tied down to a chair, yelling for help. There was a paper glued to his shirt saying, 'I'm the one.'

They didn't bother untying his hands, only his feet were freed before he was brought to his knees in front of Emma.

"I was told you have some information for me." Emma said, looking into his eyes, daring him to deny or beat around the bush.

When he didn't speak quickly, she nodded to Müller and the latter freed the man's hands in a swift move with the knife and fixed his right one on the SUV's surface right next to Emma's feet before he chopped his pinky finger off, causing an ear piercing scream to resonate through the air.

"I'm kind of in a hurry, so I thought this would motivate you to talk fast." She told the still screaming man. "If you don't shut the fuck up, and start talking, I'll cut your entire hand and force it down your throat!" She threatened when he kept screaming and not talking.

"I was told you want to know who ordered the hit on the gang who messed up your wedding. It was an old mafia family, but not just any mafia family. They're rarely ever involved, they work from behind the scenes, from the shadows and only when they're absolutely needed. They specialise in locating targets and getting rid of them in the most random yet public places so that the lesson is delivered to others to not mess with that specific family that's under their protection that's why whenever a body involves the mafia appears in a public place it's automatically known who's responsible. They're called The Protectors because they're there to protect the head family of the mafia, the mafia of all mafias." He blurted out while trying to controls his pants so that his words are clear.

"And who is this family?" Asked Emma.

"No one knows who are they or their last names, they're names are wiped from the mafia records same goes with the head family of the mafia. We just know that one of the leaders families is the head family of the mafia but we don't know who exactly because if it's known they would be targets to both the police and other mafia families since everyone wants to be on the top. As for The Protectors, they're unofficial part of the mafia, but they're also known to be filthy rich aside from their mafia identity. That's all I know, I swear." Said the man.

"So you're saying only the head family of the mafia knows who The Protectors are and vice versa?" Asked Emma rhetorically, but the man seemed too scared of her that he didn't notice it was a rhetorical question and shook his head furiously in agreement. "And The Protectors only protect the head mafia family, no one else?" She asked.

"Not as far as I know." He answered.

"I think I just figured who these two mysterious families are." She thought out loud.

The three men's heads snapped her way, their eyes pools of curiosity.

"You can go now." She told the still kneeling man. "And if you told anybody about this you know what will happen to you and your family?" She threatened.

"Of course, ma'am." He replied.

"And cover that hand with something until I tell you otherwise." She ordered, so that people don't notice anything.

"Yes, ma'am." He obliged.

~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~

"Where to, young miss?" Asked Müller as he started the car. He had a hunch she didn't want to go home just yet.

"Go to my old apartment." She instructed, leaning her head on the window, looking at the roads passing by in blur. "Müller." She called out.

"Yes, young miss?"

"Call Giuseppe and tell him to pack his bags we're going for a vacation tomorrow, and to not tell anyone about this. We'll take breakfast on the plane." She told him.

"Right away, young miss."

Müller called Giuseppe and told him exactly what Emma told him and hung up after the young fella said he was on it.

"Müller." Emma called him once again after awhile.

"Yes, young miss?"

"Tell them to start, I want it finished by dawn." She said.

Müller was shocked at hearing her saying this, he looked at her for a while through the rearview mirror before he finally snapped out of it. "Yes, young miss."

Emma kept watching the empty road filled with trees. "You too are quite lonely yourself." She said lowly referring to the road.

Then she dozed off.

~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~

Emma woke up early in the morning to catch Adam before he went to his work. She headed to the Knights' mansion.

"Take Giuseppe to the car while I speak with my husband." She ordered the guards at the door.

"Yes, ma'am." They said in unison.

"Why the rush, dear husband?" She asked sarcastically when she entered only to find Adam rushing out.

Adam smiled and advanced towards her to kiss her but she backed off. He looked at her weirdly but decided he was too busy to argue with her now. He thought that he would talk to her once he returned from his meeting, this behaviour of hers has passed it's expiration date. "I'm sorry, I'm in a hurry. We'll talk once I come back." He said and rushed out, only to be stopped by her words.

"Why? So that you can plan my murder with your mother?" She said.

"W- what?" Adam was dumbfounded.

"I mean now that I'm about to give birth you can proceed with your plan with the others to assassinate me, or you don't care about the baby at all since I'm it's mother?" She questioned, raising her eyebrow. "Well, I wouldn't blame you if you were to do it, I mean who would care about a child from the enemy who's threatening the ones they're protecting, am I right?" She asked.

"Emma, what the hell are you talking about?" Questioned Adam.

"I'm merely stating facts, Mr. Knights." She said. "Now that I think about it, your name does suite you. You're their knight and my nightmare. One I wish to be wiped off of my memories." Her words were laced with loathe.

Emma turned to leave, but Adam stopped her.

"Emma please tell me what is this all about?" His tone would have fooled her few months ago, but now all it did was fuelling her temper.

"I asked you if you were hiding something from me, haven't I?" She asked him.

"And I've answered you!"

"Have you?" She asked him.

"Yes!" He exclaimed, frustration can be heard clearly in his voice.

"That was your last chance Adam, and you just blew it off." She walked out.

"Where are you going?" He asked her.

"See you in hell, Mr. Knights. Make sure not to mess with me then and tell the others too." She waved him off with her hand as she exited the door.

Emma got into the limo where Müller, Jürgen, and Giuseppe waited for her. When she got settled the limo drove off.

Emma waited until the car was out of the premises and far enough before she fished her phone out and typed a text to Adam, she looked at her wrist watch and waited for a while before sending it.

'This is the last piece of courtesy from me to you, run if you can.'

Few moments later she nodded to Müller who nodded at her in return, he then fished his phone out of his breast pocket and dialled a number.

Moments later loud sounds of explosions were heard, the explosion was so hard that the seats underneath them shook with it's force.

Giuseppe turned his head in the direction of the sound only to see pieces of the Knights' mansion blown in the air, the flames almost reaching the sky.

He looked back at Emma who had her head laid back on the chair in a comfortable position with an ugly smile on her face.

"Turn the car around! Turn the fucking car around!" Giuseppe yelled at the driver.

"Shhh, listen!" She shushed and pointed towards the radio. "Turn the volume up." She ordered the driver.

Everybody listened while the news lady said how multiple bombs exploded in different parts of the world.

Turkey, German, Italy, and the U.S.

"That's what you get when you play with fire, you get burned! Or in your case exploded." Emma said laughing hysterically.

Hey, lovelies!

What do you think of this ending? Do you agree with what Emma did? And why did she target multiple countries?

Hope you enjoy this chap.
