Third Person POV
+
Emma slowly opened her eyes, so that the light doesn't worsen her headache. "What happened?" She asked the blurry figure of whom she knew was Adam.
"Baby, are you okay?" Adam held her hand tightly as if to assure himself that she was indeed fine.
"My head is killing me." She moaned in pain. "What happened?" She repeated.
"You fainted earlier." Adam told her.
"Ah, one of my episodes. Damn they're getting stronger and stronger." She assumed.
"No, it wasn't one of your episodes this time." Adam said, then he was silent for a while before he continued. "You're pregnant." His eyes were dancing with unsuppressed joy.
Emma was happy for a short period of time before Michael's last words rung in her ear, then her smile was wiped clean off of her face.
Adam saw the sudden change in her demure before she acted upon it, but he didn't think much of it. He thought it was because of the sudden news, that she needed time to process it.
It never occurred to him that her ex's visit would have anything to do with it.
Emma tried her best to refrain from showing anything in her expressions to Adam, she didn't want to judge him based on baseless assumptions that may or may not be right.
However her mind kept telling her that what Michael whispered in her ear before he left was indeed true, it made sense. It was the only explanation to what happened at that time.
"Where's Müller?" Emma asked.
"What? Are you serious right now?" Adam was dumbfounded. Was that really the first thing came to her mind after he told her she was pregnant with their child. Something was definitely wrong. Adam thought.
"Why?"
"Nothing." Adam shook his head, he didn't want to stress her in her situation. "Müller was around here. I'll call him in for you." He told her.
"No, I'll find him myself." She told him.
Adam sighed. "Emma-"
"Please, Adam, I want to breath in some fresh air." She cut him off, knowing exactly what he was going to say.
"Okay," he nodded his head in agreement. "Just don't be out for long, it's cold out there, and wear something warm." He added.
Emma nodded.
~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~
"Call in Müller and Jürgen." Emma ordered one of the guards that was standing outside the conference room, then she entered the room and sat down waiting for them.
Moments later there was a knock on the door before it was open by Müller who let himself in followed by Jürgen.
"Take a seat." Emma nodded in the direction of the seats opposite from her.
Jürgen sat but Müller kept standing as always. "Always the one who draws lines perfectly." Commented Emma. "You know why I called you in here?" She asked, standing up.
Both men looked at each other before fixing their gazes on her. "No." Jürgen replied.
"No, ma'am." Replied Müller.
"I received a shocking news earlier." She started. "They said I was no queen but rather a pawn in this game that I thought I orchestrated." She laughed cynically.
Jürgen scrunched his eyebrows in confusion while Müller's whole body tensed. Emma was studying their reaction and didn't miss neither of them. She looked at Jürgen. "You can go now." She said and waited until he was gone and the door was closed behind him before she turned her attention to the bulky hunk in front of her.
She walked around the table until she was right in front of him. "Did you betray my trust, Müller." She questioned.
Müller was to his knees in a blink. "Forgive me, young miss." Was all that he said.
A painful, cruel, and icy giggle resonated in the air followed by a hysterical laughter. "I was really played well, wasn't I? Still I must have really been pitiful that you at least kept my secret from everyone as I requested." She said brokenly. "Now I feel bad for Jürgen. I actually suspected him more than you." She chuckled humourlessly.
Guilt ate at Müller for withholding everything from her, and even though it was for her good, he regretted doing it when he heard the broken tone of her voice. The once invincible Emma stood there shattered because of someone she trusted more than anyone else.
"Go." She said weakly before she made her way to the exit.
"I was put by your side to help moulding you into the perfect killing machine, into A.L, but that was just a cover. I was actually put there to make sure you rot in that exile they put you in, they wanted to make sure you stay prisoned to the grief of losing your mother until one day you commit suicide." Müller blurted out, stopping her dead in her tracks. "However when you beat your grief and emerged the strong and ruthless A.L, a new assignment was assigned to me. Stay next to you and monitor your each and every move and report it to them. You became someone they have to have for them to reign unhindered, in multiple ways." Müller continued.
"In multiple ways? How" Questioned Emma.
"Your mother was indeed murdered but it was not because your father was afraid she would take you and your brother, his sole heirs along with half of his fortune if not all of it. It was the opposite. She had the power to turn them into a bunch of beggars running the streets naked, she was the one with power not the opposite. If she ever found out your father's accomplices they would all taste her wrath. She was known to be ruthless, only her disease reduced her activity. If she came out of that hospital she would have wrecked havoc, so she had to be silenced once and for all." Müller revealed. "So whomever has you will surely have the upper hand in a lot of things. They can have both have the physical power of A.L and the Crawlers' in addition to the largest shareholder's." He continued.
"Largest shareholder?"
"According to your mother's will, you and your brother share the 60% of the shares under her name equally witch means 30% each. However if anything happened to one of you the shares will automatically be transferred to the other one's name, and with your brother supposedly dead, you-"
"I became my mother." She figured. "Why were the Crawlers created then? Aren't they contradicting themselves? Why would they assemble a gang to protect someone they want dead." She questioned.
"A façade. So that they will have the shares transferred over to their names smoothly and without any hindrance if anything were to happen to you. Because the same question will be asked by the police and other shareholders if you end up dead, why would anybody go to extreme lengths to protect somebody only to have them killed? And that one question is the key to their innocence." Müller clarified. "But everything went in vain when you did not only die, but also came back as A.L the true leader of the Crawlers and the rightful heiress to your mother's throne. Their one and only enemy."
"They must have realised by then that one of their own betrayed them, and that one is none other than you." She gathered. "But why so suddenly? What got you changing your mind about killing the hopeless heiress? Was it pity? Or your desire to rebel?" She asked.
"When I saw you laying there in the rain, passed out. I remembered someone who I once held dear to my heart." He answered vaguely.
"What about Adam, do you know anything about him that I don't?"
"That's not my story to tell." He replied. "But if I were you I would start with the gang that sabotaged your wedding." Müller hinted.
"But they were killed." Emma stated the obvious, but then she scrunched her eyebrows.
Then it clicked.
