Chapter 14 - part 13

Third Person POV

+

Adam was a wreck, his head buzzed with all the thinking he had been doing since Emma collapsed.

The doctors suddenly showed up without him calling, almost as if someone predicted such thing would happen and sent them there.

The Jürgen guy he saw earlier came back minutes after the doctors barged in the mansion, Greta seemed rather calm considering the sudden happenings.

Everything screamed strangeness and unfamiliarity. He was never the one to be comfortable with unfamiliarity. Out of all of the happenings of the last hours what weighed heavily on him was the fact that he didn't know what was wrong with Emma.

There was some strange change in her personality in the last few days, even her behaviour changed. The calm, refined, and collected woman he knew for the past two years was replaced with this totally new, cold, unfamiliar, vengeful, and full of secrets, Annalise Sampson.

It's not like he didn't know who she really was, or where did she come from. He knew.

He already did a throughout background check on her the moment he decided to make her Mrs. Knights, but no matter how throughout and precise a background check is, it still is just a background check. There are secrets that you have find someone who knows them and is willing to share, for you to know them.

And he didn't even knew there were any. He thought she was just Emma/Annalise Sampson, the woman he knew for two years and came to love. She was just his Emma.

Until recently, that is.

The things he accidentally came to know about her are so overwhelming and totally unlike her that he would develop a headache every time he thinks of them or try to figure them out.

The mighty and ruthless business tycoon who thought everything and everyone is in the palms of his hands, that nothing can escape him unless he wants to was easily deceived by none other than his secretary and wife.

She wasn't just any secretary, she was a well known professor in one of Italy's most prestigious universities. She has a PhD in psychology, and used to be a doctor at the same time. And he has a hunch there's more than that, seeing that she met with that brother of hers in the most dangerous side of the city after midnight without any bodyguards with her.

How can someone so petite and delicate possess such credible talents even after the severe mental torture she went through along the years.

He was dumbfounded.

The thing that got him the most though was, how her expression morphed into anger and fright when the guy from earlier mentioned her condition. He never saw her so panicked, not even when he confronted her about her intentions with the redhead who barged into their house, nor did she show any signs of fear when she knew that he knew her real identity. She didn't even hesitate to share her plans concerning the woman with him.

Which can only mean that her condition is far worst than he had imagined, and that the doctors know but are ordered to keep silent.

Adam was in a corner of their dim lit bedroom, slightly observing her sleeping form before he finally stood up, marched to her, and kissed her forehead lingeringly. Then he went out to seek for answers from the only people that he knew were sure to know something that would help his quest for the well hidden truth.

~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~

Emma opened her eyes when she heard the bedroom's door closed shut, she's been awake for a quite sometime now. However she didn't have the courage nor the face to face Adam just yet.

She sighed tiredly, she detached the needle from her hand in a not so gentle way. She was still unwell, just not that sickly tired and pale.

She headed to the bathroom to freshen up before anybody decides to disturb her.

She came out of the bathroom sometime later in nothing but a towel covering her body, and another on her head. She was about to head to the vicinity table when her phone's screen came to life with the least person she expected to call her.

"Who said you could call me, let alone on my personal phone!" She snapped when she picked the phone up.

"We need to meet." The caller answered arrogantly.

Emma smirked at his boldness. Then she hung up.

Those people needed a reminder as to why she's from a different league from them.

She continued her way to the vicinity table, picked up the hair brush, and started humming slightly while preparing to leave. She took her sweet time, did everything ever so slowly.

An hour later she was out of the Knights' premises and into her expensive sports car, wearing a skin tight faded blue jeans and a grey sleeveless shirt with a brown jacket on top of it.

Even though Jeff and her other bodyguards tried to stop her, they couldn't because she was out of there before they even saw her.

~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~

"Get right into the point, I don't have time to waste on you." She said the moment she entered the abandoned building along with Jürgen.

She deliberately chose this building for the meeting because it's far away from the city and from prying eyes and ears.

She didn't want to take any chances of anybody seeing or hearing any of what was bound to happen here.

One of the guys approached her in a careful way, like a wolf showing his submission to its alpha. Head slightly bowed, back slightly bend, and hands resting on each side. But then he suddenly scoffed when he heard her statement. His posture straightening almost immediately.

A way to show he's fed up with her bossy and arrogant attitude towards them. "You better make time because if you don't-" He trailed off, sitting back comfortably on the rusty old chair.

Emma raised her eyebrow at his sudden change of behaviour, not that she didn't realised it on the phone earlier. "If I don't?" She asked, rather amused.

"Well, you know. Your hus- oh, wait, he's not your husband. He's just another poor soul you're using to achieve whatever that is you want. Anyway he'll get some really interesting information if you don't listen to what we have to say." He said confidently.

Emma laughed, taking him off guard. He was suddenly tense. "That's why you'll never be able to be anything other than a petty gang leader. My chess piece." She emphasised.

The man she was calling a petty gang leader was the leader of the strongest gang in the country. He was feared everywhere and by everyone. Even the police.

However, the only person he bowed to was her. Annalise Sampson, the ruthlessly unforgiving bitch. She was the one who made him, and she was the only one who could turn him into ashes. "Is that how you reward me after giving you a free piece of meat. I'm disappointed!" She exclaimed, in mock hurt.

The man tensed some more when she mentioned the redhead they had fun playing with. There's no way she mentioned it out of nowhere just for the fun of it.

There's something about that case she has that could point it was their deed. The lady was out of her mind because of the shock of what she went through, so she doesn't really form any kind of danger on them. The manipulative bitch in front of him, however, was another story.

"Stop acting so high and mighty, you're nothing but a manipulative crazy bitch!" He exclaimed angrily, but mostly because how defeated he felt when it came to the lady in front of him.

Jürgen was about to beat the hell out of him when Emma stopped him.

"This manipulative crazy bitch is the reason why you have a name to begin with." She stated calmly, way too calmly for anyone liking.

She was in front of him in a blink, holding his throat in a tight grip that left him gasping for air. He tried to pry her hands off of him but in vein, she blocked each of his movements. She was the one who trained him after all, the one who taught him every single trick he knew. "So be a good little dog and stay loyal to me, bark when I tell you to bark, lay when I tell you to lay, and die when I tell you to die." She hissed the last part still holing him in a death grip. His lips beginning to turn purple. "Am I understood, Zeus?" Her calm and refined self resurfacing once again.

The whole room fell silent, scared of the all too familiar faces of the snake in front of them.

The man nodded frantically, silently begging to be set free.

She finally let go of his throat, and extended her hand to Jürgen to hand her the bag he was holding. She threw it at a still gasping Zeus. "I'll be nice this time and let this go seeing you've being loyal to me for quite long time." Zeus examined the bag only to find it full with money, how did she know he was in need of money was beyond him. "Don't ever think for a second that I owe you because of your loyalty. I own you, your loyalty is for your sake not mine. You betray me and the Crawlers' next leader will be sitting on your place." She threatened.

He knew what she meant by that, it's a costume that the gang's new leader has to kill the previous one after winning a fight but before that the new leader has to drink from the previous one's blood while still alive. Those rules were made by the real leader and founder of The Crawlers. The person that everyone want to know his identity but couldn't so far.

The Großer Bruder.

"One more thing, disrespect me one more time and I'll personally slice your heart open." She warned.

His eyes bulged out of their sockets. He knew she wasn't bluffing. She doesn't bluff, especially not when she's disrespected.

Besides she never threatens of killing people herself, so for her to say it herself means that she was greatly offended. However his loyalty must really have meant something for her to let it slide despite being this angry.

Zeus felt bad for doing it, it was a fifty fifty chance gamble. He needed the money, but he also needed to prove his theory.

And he did.

He knew exactly what he wanted to know. He thought while watching Emma and Jürgen exiting the rundown building to their awaiting car.
