Many thoughts raced through Leo's mind.
He knew that it was possible for the gods to reach out to the humans of Earth because he had heard many such stories in the past.
However, he never thought that he would catch the attention of a god, let alone catch their attention almost immediately after the reckoning.
How he handled the situation could impact his future dramatically.
Obviously, telling the god the truth was completely out of the question because Leo didn't know if his rebirth was something that the gods would accept.
If they didn't accept it, they could simply kill him then and there and he would have no way of resisting.
On the extremely slim chance that they did accept his rebirth, then they may test his limits so severely that he would struggle to survive let alone thrive.
Remaining silent for a duration, the god clearly became agitated because he spoke again, [Answer my questions human! Or I will erase your existence here and now!]
Exasperated and annoyed at the overbearing tone of the god, Leo reacted with emotion and sarcasm, "I read about it in a webnovel.'
Clearly caught off guard, the god let slip a, [Huh?] before gathering itself and speaking again, [Lies! There is no chance that reading a book could possibly result in what you have accomplished today!]
Leo couldn't help but sneer, "How do you know what is possible and what is not? Webnovels are the guidebooks to countless young men and women hoping for a chance to use magic and fight dragon's in other worlds or here on Earth!"
[Elaborate.]
"Elaborate? Elaborate on what? The dreams of young men and women everywhere?
Seems a bit self righteous of me to speak on the thoughts of another individual does it not?"
[Do you take me for a fool young man? You just said that webnovels are the guidebooks for young men and women and now you say you cannot speak for them?]
"I apologize your godliness, I was simply implying that a small subsection of the online webnovel community have read extensively on the subjects of reincarnation, transmigration, and so on.
In the stories we have read, we have experienced many different types of personalities and fighting styles as well as scenarios in which they could be utilized.
We have used those opportunities to theorize our strategies as well as play out the theoretical encounters in our mind.
A real world example would be when a boxer does shadow boxing.
But rather than boxing, we are envisioning enemies of all sorts including their fighting styles and our reactions to those fighting styles."
[Interesting... so you are saying their are more individuals like you on Earth? Would any of them be better than you are?]
"I guarantee their are those who are far smarter and far stronger than I am, your godliness.
As you have noticed, I am weak, fragile, and likely to die before long.
I would humbly advise that you search out someone who has a stronger foundation than I do, that way you will not be disappointed in the future."
[I see.. I see.. I can tell by your words that you are not lying to me so I will take your advice and search out another human to entertain me.
I will reward you for this information.
If you manage to survive, feel free to pray to me for another chance and I may consider it.
Farewell.]
[Congratulations! Xasses, God of Chance has rewarded you for your information.
+5 Attributes have been added to your Status Window.]
Leo waited patiently for a few minutes for the god to shift its focus somewhere else.
Of course, he had no way to confirm whether the god had truly given up on him and was searching out someone else to monitor, but it was unlikely that a god would remain focused on him if they thought they had a chance for more entertainment elsewhere.
Still, Leo was rather surprised, 'Was I really that conspicuous? Sure, I did everything with determination and without hesitation but it's not like shopping at a local store and buying survival supplies was entirely outside the realm of possibility for a random person?
Was I just unlucky that the God of Chance just happened to 'chance' upon me?
Hopefully he finds someone that entertains him enough where he forgets about me.
I don't have time to play games with them at this point...
Well, whatever, I got free attribute points and it didn't cost me anything so it wasn't a loss for me.'
After a quarter of an hour of simply sitting and waiting, Leo decided that he had waited long enough and prepared to move on with his journey.
Since hoarding attribute points served absolutely no point, Leo added 2 points to Strength, 1 point to Agility, 1 to Stamina, and 1 to Constitution as he made his way to his feet.
After a half an hour of walking, Leo reached a small mountain that would serve as the launching point for his coming assault.
Off in the distance, Leo had noticed many different animals had begun to move which hinted that the first wave of enhanced animals were about to begin their assault on humans.
Luckily Leo had yet to spot anything that rivaled the Oversized Coyote he faced and it appeared as if that Coyote would remain an anomaly for now.
After reaching the top of the small mountain, Leo found a small clearing with a relatively unobstructed 360 degree view of the surrounding area.
Moving a few boulders into position, Leo created some firing platforms and terrain obstacles for anything that tried to attack him.
Once he was satisfied with his makeshift snipers nest, he took the rifle from the inventory and rested it on a large boulder in front of him before peering through the scope.
Due to the fact that it was a full moon, the surrounding area was illuminated quite well and only the scattered bushes and trees provided limited cover for the wildlife in the area.
After spotting a small jackrabbit not far off into the distance. Although it looked relatively identical to its pre-reckoning self, their were small differences between them. It's ears were larger than they were before to make it easier to locate prey, its body was roughly 10% larger than before, and it had small fangs protruding down from its closed mouth.
While Leo was tracking the movements of the jackrabbit, he took a few deep breathes to steady his aim, and pulled the trigger.
*Bang*
[Congratulations! You have slain a level 1 Strengthened Jackrabbit!]
[You have gained 2% EXP]
Leo didn't pay much attention to the notification and immediately began scanning the area for his next target.
Moments later he spotted a small skunk wandering through a clearing.
After steadying his aim once again, Leo pulled the trigger.
*Bang*
[Congratulations! You have slain a level 2 Enhanced Skunk!]
[You have gained 5% EXP]
Leo didn't gloat or flatter himself with his success so far, since this was merely beginning, but he did let a small chuckle escape his lips at the atrocious naming sense of the system.
It would get better later on when new species of monsters and animals were introduced, but it had been a long time since he had forgotten how direct the system was with its naming of animals at the beginning.
The reminiscing didn't last more than a few seconds though because Leo was already scanning for his next target which he found momentarily.
*Bang*
[Congratulations! ...]
*Bang*
[Congratulations! ...]
*Bang*
[Congratulations! ...]
Leo did not hesitate, did not take any breaks, and did not allow his focus to waver for even a moment.
Time was of the essence and he was going to take full advantage of the first night and day and the free experience that the gods were presenting humanity with.
Unlike his previous life, he would not hide and waste this golden goose of an opportunity!
And so, he remained seated, firing continuously.
The only time he did pause, was when he needed to reload.
Even then, reloading took but moments because the system would allow him to combine the magazine and bullets in his inventory.
He had stumbled on it by chance as he was rotating clips from his inventory, but he wasn't one to look a gift horse in the mouth, so he was happy to accept it as a feature.
Why the system allowed this quick load feature, Leo was unsure.
In his past life, guns were nearly obsolete by the time he gathered the courage to fight, so he had only ever used them for fun.
And since part of the fun at that time was being able to hold the ammunition in his hands and place the bullets directly into the clips, he never thought to use the inventory for something like reloading.
Thanks to the reload feature, the efficiently of his killing only increased.
And so, Leo continued his rampage throughout the night until the sun began to peak above the mountains off in the distance.
Only then, did Leo set the rifle down and check his progress.
