Due to his shooting throughout the night and the fact that he had been able to move from target to target, Leo had managed to passively increase his Agility by a full point and his Stamina by one and a half points.
Although Leo despised the gods for playing with the human race the way that they did, he had never held such thoughts for the system itself.
It always rewarded people who worked hard and put in the effort, evidenced by the passive reward of stat increases and the benefits it provided.
Of course, if someone had latent physical abilities or went to the gym every day pre-reckoning then their starting points were always higher than someone who sat at home and played video games or studied like Leo.
But that didn't mean that catching up was impossible.
All you had to do, was work hard.
At the beginning of the apocalypse in his past life, Leo had resented that fact, but now he appreciated it.
While Leo was appreciating his new stats and taking the opportunity to get some food and water in his system, he heard the unmistakable sound of dirt bikes approaching from a distance.
Leo quickly lifted himself up off the ground and took out a pair of binoculars, looking in the direction the sound was coming from.
Sure enough, off in the distance, riding rapidly towards his location was a group of four dirt bikes.
Leo could make out the outlines of two individuals on each dirt bike but he wasn't able to tell much else at the current distance.
Obviously unable to discern their intentions, Leo put away his binoculars and withdrew his rifle, placing it on one of the large boulders in front of him, facing in the direction that the individuals were coming.
A few minutes passed and the bikes managed to reach one of the clearings where Leo had been picking off targets left and right throughout the night.
Apparently the scene of the massacre was enough to catch some of the riders off guard because they quickly came to a stop and dismounted their bikes.
Seeing this, Leo became more alert.
Sure, the value of level 1 and 2 animals was quite pathetic, but it didn't mean that he was willing to let other people take what was rightfully his.
Hell, just the meat of those animals alone would be enough to sustain him for a full month.
With resolve, Leo brought the scope of the rifle up to his eye and peered down at the unwanted guests.
At first, the group simply stood still, taking in the sight of dead animals all around them.
Some of the people appeared to be quite distressed by the situation because Leo could see them pulling at the others in what appeared to be a failed attempt to get them to leave the area.
Although Leo couldn't hear what they were saying, it was clear that some of the larger individuals were ignoring/arguing with the ones wanting to leave because they were pointing at the dead animals and gesturing as if to say, "Look at all these animals! We should take these! They're just laying around the area and I don't see anyone else here!"
Sure enough, a few moments later, the larger individual who had dismounted from the lead bike started making his way towards a relatively large javelina that Leo had brought down.
Seeing this, Leo took careful aim and fired off a single shot.
The shot impacted the land mere inches away from the feet of the large individual who was approaching his kill.
Clearly caught off guard by the impact of the bullet and the sound of gunfire, the large individual withdrew what appeared to be a bat from his inventory and scanned the area.
The rest of the people in the group either withdrew melee weapons of their own or quickly took cover behind the bikes.
'Really? You get shot at and you think a melee weapon is going to save you?' is all Leo could think seeing the individuals actions.
After a few seconds, the individual who Leo had fired at seemed to gather his courage and started screaming as loud as he could.
And although Leo was a relatively far distance away, he still managed to pick it up.
It was the brusque voice of a man screaming, "Hey mother fucker! Why are you shooting at us?!"
Leo couldn't help but shake his head and think to himself, 'Why am I shooting at you? Clearly I have a rifle, fantastic fuckin aim, and am within range of where those animals have been shot and killed... a monkey with a brain would be able to tell that I'm the one who killed them and I'm protecting my kills...'
When the man didn't get a response, he clearly became more agitated and continued to scream.
"Come out and face us if you dare! Why don't you put down your gun and we'll fight like men for these animals!"
Leo was stunlocked.
'Why the fuck should I fight you for something I killed myself?! And why would I put down the gun?!' he screamed internally.
The fury he felt at the mans stupidity was unbearable.
'How can someone be this stupid?!
Oh you're right sir! Let me put down my weapon and walk within range of you and your seven other companions so you can beat me to death!
Get the fuck out of here with this idiocy!'
Stupid people were always Leo's biggest pet peeve and this man was already fighting for the number one spot on the most stupid people that Leo had ever met.
And he had only spoken two times!
Rather than respond with words, Leo responded with violence.
*Bang*
Another shot landed directly at the mans feet.
Unlike before though, he managed to catch a glimpse of the location the shot had come from and was now looking directly at Leo.
Leo, who was rather proud of himself for resisting the urge to kill the guy, stood up reveled himself as if to taunt the man.
Clearly, the man also realized it was a taunt because he immediately book it in the direction of Leo.
The group of people behind the man had mixed reactions but 5 of the 7 remaining ones quickly followed after the 'leader'.
Leo remained wholly and completely, unafraid.
No matter how close the six of them got to him, their was no way that they would ever pose a threat to him with their pathetic excuses for weapons.
So he waited.
And waited.
After running for a good five minutes, the group of six, who Leo could now tell were all men, were now close enough to hear Leo even if he only hollered slightly louder than his normal voice.
"Come any closer and I will be forced to kill each and every one of you. Take this as my one and only warning.
You have ten seconds to stop advancing, turn around, and leave.
If you do not, I will kill you where you stand."
To Leo's absolute surprise, two of the men actually stopped in their tracks. They looked utterly terrified at the idea that they may die.
The other four, continued up the side of the mountain, advancing towards Leo.
When the leader looked back towards the two who had stopped, he yelled, "If you two fuckers don't get your asses up here and beat this punk to death, then I will kill you myse..."
*Bang*
Before the leader could even finish his sentence, a large hole now existed where his forehead used to be.
The body quickly fell forward and began to roll down the side of the mountain. As the mans corpse passed by the five remaining men, they were unable to take their eyes off of it.
When the body rolled closer to where the bikes had been parked, Leo heard the unmistakable shrieks of a woman.
For a brief moment, Leo felt somewhat bad, 'Whoops, that might have been a bit too much for these amateurs to bare.'
But that feeling quickly passed, "I did tell him ten seconds! And then he threatened his own men... which is something I absolutely cannot forgive!
So.. you five, what's the plan here? You take another step, you will join him at the bottom of the mountain.
Or, you can turn around, get on your bikes and leave.
Decide now."
Clearly delusional, equally as dumb as the leader, or lost in madness or fear, two of the men turned and charged towards Leo.
*Bang* *Bang*
They died.
One of the remaining three passed out where he stood, fell down like a big sack of potatoes and rolled down the hill.
And based on the way he hit his head on multiple rocks on his way down, was most likely dead.
The last remaining two, looked like they had just lost the will to live and were completely frozen in place.
Leo couldn't help but shake his head and sigh, "This is why I came out here alone... Unless you're a cold blooded murderer then you just don't have the stomach for what needs to be done in this new world landscape.
At least not yet.."
Leo then looked at the two still frozen in place.
"You two, go back, get on your bikes and leave.
I swear I will not kill you, so take a deep breathe and collect yourselves.
Oh.. but leave one of the women, yeah?"
The two quickly bobbed their heads up and down to acknowledge his words before they scrambled down the hill.
As they jumped on the bikes, they didn't even look at the two women who were there and quickly bolted from the area as fast as there bikes could take them.
The women tried to chase them down for a few seconds but quickly gave up chase.
They themselves tried to get the bikes started but due to fear or lack of knowledge, they couldn't get the bike to start.
Leo couldn't help but let out a laugh.. two for the price of one!
