Chapter 7 - Temporary Departure

"We have to make it believable. They won't believe us if I show up without a ring."

He rolled his eyes as he stood to his feet, walked to a drawer to open it and rummaged through its contents.

The jingle of jewelry filled the air as he found what he was looking for, took it out and closed the drawer.

"Here, put this on," he tossed a ring to her as she caught it, looking at it in shock before looking back at him fall into his chair.

"Is this a ring?"

"What? Are you blind?"

"You know what I mean. You can't give me this and expect anyone to believe that we're married. Also, how many of these do you have lying around? Do you store rings or own a ring store?"

"So many questions that won't have an answer. I suggest you wear the ring or leave. I've got a lot to do today."

"You're not going to wear this on me?"

"Is this a real wedding or relationship?"

"No."

"Then you already know my answer."

She paused her lips knowing there was nothing she could say to change his mind.

With a sigh of relief that at least he had answered her request, she put on the ring and looked at it glistening in the sun.

It was made of gold with a small rock at the top which told her it was pure diamond.

It must have cost him a fortune to get one of these and it made her wonder what his price was going to be.

"What do you want in return?" she asked. "What is your price? How much do you want?"

This made him smile. "How about I tell you later."

This response made her feel uneasy but at least she had someone who would be with her as she made her ex boyfriend jealous.

She looked around for her clothes as he pointed to the drawer. "Your clothes are in there," he said, reading her mind. "And one more thing, don't follow strange men around."

This was more like a warning and not an advice. One she sheepishly nodded to because she knew she had made the mistake of following him to his home.

He seemed like a nice man and one who did not want to be disturbed. She breathed easily knowing he was not going to kill her or sell her parts for money.

He stood up and walked out of the room for her to change as she did exactly what he had said.

Walking to the drawer while dragging about the bed cover still around her, she opened it to get out her clothes and purse.

She immediately jumped into it just in case he was staring at her like a creep from a hidden corner.

When she was ready to go, she looked around for anything she could see which belonged to her before exiting the room.

She opened the door to find him leaning against the wall. Their eyes met and at that moment, she felt something mysterious about the man.

He was not normal and on a regular day she would be scared. However she was not scared of him. She was intrigued by his brooding demeanor. This dragged her in and she wanted to know what made him tick.

"This way," he said, walking ahead of her through a dimly lit hallway which had rare paintings of famous painters with mosaic paintings of their faces hung beside their works.

Within a minute, they appeared to a staircase which wound to the bottom. It was wide enough to fit seven people walking side by side and she wondered where she was.

This looked like a castle. Following the man down the stairs, the multiple layers of chandeliers hanging from the ceiling with their low lights made her feel like she was in an old movie. How old was this place?

The large windows were covered with drapes of giant curtains which gave her the notion that he did not want light revealing the insides of his house.

Yes, there were chandeliers with their lights but it did little to no justice at revealing the interior of the place. All it did was light up the steps which she was glad was bright enough for her.

She followed him to a door which he opened for her like a gentleman as she walked out of it getting him to walk out behind her.

She gasped when she looked before her to find a large courtyard with multiple cars of different companies. From Bugattis to Lamborghinis to Pagani Zondas to Mercedes. This was like a car galore at this point.

At the edge of the yard was her car and he walked briskly to it with him following slowly behind her.

She got to it and found it to surprisingly be in good shape, although she wondered if she had driven it to this place or he had driven it for her.

Details about last night were unclear and she did not understand how she had done anything.

"Thank you for agreeing to my demands," she sighed. "I'm really sorry if I was a bit rude to you. But I really need this to work."

"What time and date is the wedding?"

"I don't know yet," she said, getting her phone out of her purse to sigh. "My phone is dead and I can't use it, but if you'll give me your number I'll contact you and…"

"I don't have a phone," he exhaled sharply. "Haven't seen the use of it yet."

This came as a shock to her for everyone had a phone. Even children these days had phones.

He had assorted cars of expensive taste littered around the yard but didn't have a phone. This was surprising to the woman and she was wondering if this was coming off as a joke or something.

He walked to the back of her car to take a good look at it.
