Liam arrived a few minutes later and I immediately jumped on my best friend and wrapped my legs around his waist, giving him a big bear hug. He wrapped his hands around my back and I felt his lips quavering, I hugged him tighter.
I've been so engrossed in my love life that I completely ignored my best friend, seeing how hurt he was I felt extremely angry and sad. I wonder what happened to leave him this broken, my heart broke for him. We stayed that way for 5 minutes, crying into each other's shoulders, until Luna Rae cleared her throat loudly.
I immediately jumped down from his body.
I wiped my eyes swiftly and cleared my croaked voice. "Uhm Luna Rae meet my best friend, Liam. Liam meet the former Luna and my mother in-Law, Luna Rae." I introduced them.
Liam gracefully bowed to show his respect, and I smiled at them.
"You should be careful now boys, we don't want Asher misunderstanding okay? Doesn't matter if you're the Beta's mate darling." She smiled warmly and walked away, I sighed heavily.
"What happened Liam? Wanna talk about it before the party starts?"
"Let's go somewhere private." He requested.
"Hmmm I wonder where....alright, follow me." I dragged him towards a secret passageway I discovered, when we got there, I opened the door and shut it after he walked in. We found a comfortable spot to sit and then Liam immediately bursted out in tears, he cried profusely as I watched him with teary eyes.
"I found out that he cheated on me, apparently the other guy has been in a relationship with him since high school, he's his first in everything. I begged him not to go to him, but he left anyway. Guess I'm not as important as his first love, it just hurts cause he's my first, who do I run to when he chooses him over me?" He sobbed.
"You run to me, I'll be there for you. I'll keep you safe and protect you, like I've always done. You know we can always count on each other for anything right?"
"You have a mate now Ryo, I can't put you in trouble with your mate, I know how much you love him." He wipes his eyes.
"I loved you first Liam." I stared at him, then his thoughts crossed my mind.
'I wanna kiss you soo bad, but I don't want you getting in trouble with the Alpha, I also don't want to put our friendship on the line. I wish we didn't have mates, I wish we didn't accept that invitation, then we would have been happy, together. I really miss you, bonehead.'
Without much hesitation, I circled my hand around his neck and pulled him into a kiss, almost instantly, he kissed me back. Our lips moved in sync, our breath fanning each other's faces, our hearts pounding hard, we moved closer until our body was touching and deepened the kiss.
In that moment, I lost my mind, all I could think of was this handsome man in front of me, how vulnerable he was right now, how relieved he felt right now, as we deepened our kiss, my phone rang and we broke out of the kiss, panting like wild dogs.
We stared at each other in shock as I swallowed hard, I picked up my phone and Asher's name beamed out my phone, my heartbeat increased.
"Um hey Asher, what's up?" I tried to act normal.
Then his voice boomed through the speakers. "What have you done?" My heart dropped.
"Um-I-I-uhm-it-it's-I-I….." I stammered as fear consumed me, then he hung up, my eyes widened.
Shit.
Liam facepalmed himself, I panicked. "I'm sorry Ryo, I shouldn't have done that."
"No, it's not your fault. I should've known better, I read your mind and completely lost it, this is all my fault. He knows! He-he must have felt it, what do I do Liam? I'm scared. We have to leave now, I need to find Asher, I need to at least explain."
We both exited the passageway and I immediately searched for Asher, my heart pounding hysterically, my hands trembling, my body shivering. I ran to our room but it was empty, I ran to his study room, empty too, I ran to the library, empty, I checked all rooms, nothing, I tried mindlinking him for the first time but I couldn't get through to him, he shut me out, fear consumed me.
I dialed his number again but it just went to voicemail, then I received a text from Liam, informing me of Chester's arrival, I sighed heavily and decided to go to my friends, he'll show up when he's ready to talk.
It's almost midnight and Asher still hasn't responded to my text messages and calls, I was feeling extremely anxious, and the best way to feel better is by drowning ourselves with alcohol. Vampires and werewolves don't get drunk but we're humans, we unintentionally drank ourselves to stupor as we waited for our mates.
"Do you guys want to drink yourselves to death? That's enough alcohol for today, you need to rest now, your mates will show up when they're ready. Just give them some time."
"I wa-want mo-mo-more al-alcohol n-n-now." I picked up the alcohol bottle and poured myself a drink, but before the cup touched my lips, it was forcefully removed from my hand and smashed into a thousand pieces, I looked up and found Asher looking so disheveled. My heart broke and tears stung my eyes, he was fuming and I could tell he was fighting for control over his wolf.
He grabbed my hand and dragged me to our room, I stumbled a few times and he lifted me on his shoulder. We got to the room and he locked it, he then threw me into the ground and glared at me.
"Look, I can explain." I said.
"Good. Explain why you reek of another man, explain why you had another man shove his tongue down your throat, explain why you cheated on me! Go on, explain!" He said in a dangerously low tone.
"I-I'm sorry Asher." Tears stung my eyes as I stared at him.
I stood up and moved closer to him but halted as his fist collided with my face, I stumbled backwards.
He shoved me into the wall and held me tightly by the neck, I struggled to breathe as he tightened his grip. My life flashed before my eyes.
"How many times have I told you that your life belongs to me huh! And yet you made out with another man? You wanna be a whore so bad right ? You wanna screw other guys so hard right?" He slapped me.
Tears streamed down my eyes and I stared into the dark eyes of my mate, indicating that his wolf was out. Pain shot through my body as he landed a few slaps on my face, whilst still strangling the life out of me. I closed my eyes, embracing death, when all off a sudden he released his grip on my neck and threw me across the room. I hit the wall and felt my shoulder dislocate, I layed there in pain.
He walked over to me and picked me up, as I let out a muffled scream, he placed me on the bed and stood beside me.
"Why did you do it?"
"I don't know, I suddenly had the urge to do it." I confessed, too tired to lie.
