Chapter 8 - Chapter 8

After a while Allen started training his powers, only in his room, since he didn't want anyone to know what he could do, or what was he capable of.

He continued to train moving objects from left to right, up and down, he couldn't really levitate objects that were too big or too heavy but he could lift at least a bit more than he could carry in his own arms.

However, that didn't stop him from trying to get to heavier objects until he managed to lift the desk he uses with both hands using telekinesis, after that he had to spend the rest of the day in bed because of how taxing it was on his body.

While he could do it, it wasn't really efficient for his body and his imaginary muscle that aches after training. The more he trained, the less it hurt, so it meant he had to go harder at it. At least that's what he thought if he wanted to get a better use of his powers.

 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"I… can't move" he exclaimed another day, he tried to lift the bookcase in his room, and while he did managed to do it, all the dust and dirt around it moved as well and he accidentally breathe it, making him sneeze and in consequence, he lost control of his powers, letting the bookcase fall down.

Such an up and down in his powers hurt him all over his body "Let's stop moving objects for a while…" He thought while holding back the tears, it hurt a lot, but the worse part was that he didn't even know where, it felt like everywhere around his body, but not in his body either.

"Such a weird feeling" He muttered to himself while trying to sit down on floor, but fell down again on his back, with his limbs extended.

"I guess, I can stay here for a while" He resigned himself and closed his eyes to rest for a moment.

The pain sometimes subdued after a few minutes, but if it was too strong it could last almost hours, it just depended on how he practiced, he knew this time he overexerted himself, but it was getting boring to him, only levitating books around, that's why he tried with heavier things every time.

After twenty minutes the pain went down significantly but he didn't want to stand up anymore.

He could still breathe a bit of dust around him but that gave him an idea.

Would it be possible to gather all the dust around him in a small ball of dirt? He didn't know, but after resting for a while he wanted to try something else.

Allen put one arm on top of his face, covering it, raised his arm and let his emotions flow, remembering the first time he managed to use his powers.

One thing he realized is that his powers were about emotions or feelings and willpower or intention, he needed strong emotions, preferably joyful ones of happy ones, then the willpower, wanting for something to happen. Similar to starting a car and then driving it, his emotions were the key to turn on the car while his intention was him driving it.

Not that he would know, since he never learned how to drive a car, but he can imagine it would be like that.

"I want all the dust in this room to gather in a ball on top of my hand" is what he was thinking, and he could feel his powers expanding around the room and moving all the dust particles around it to him. Since he still was laying down, a lot of dust ran over him.

After a few minutes a tennis sized ball was left on his hand "This… the room was this dirty? What the hell" He exclaimed, careful to not let the ball explode in his hand making the whole process useless, he went to the bin and carefully put the ball of dust in it, the moment it touched the bin, the ball fell apart, filling it with dust and dirt.

Allen carefully closed it and "Achoo" he sneezed really hard.

I need a shower" He thought, grabbing a clean pair of clothes and leaving his room to go to the bathroom.

 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After a few days of that event happening he decided to stop lifting such heavy objects for a while and concentrated on something else, precision.

Grabbing a few books from his bookcase, he put them on top of his desk and levitated them, after a moment, he put the rest down and only one was remaining in the air.

"Okay, here we go" He thought excited, it was something new he didn't try before, so he was raring to try it.

First, he moved the book as slow as possible from left to right using only one hand, then he made it go as fast as possible to suddenly stop it.

To do all of this he developed a series of hand movements, moving only required an open hand, as he moved his hand from one side to another, the book moved as well, he could also use only his index finger, but that worked more for only movement, this time, with the open hand, to make a sudden stop he would close it in a fist, stopping all movement from the object, this went against all laws of physics.

"But it's fun, so who cares" A smirk showed on his face, he was having fun.

"My powers themselves don't make sense or follow any rules either, so it's alright" He expressed to himself, but then remembered that there is one rule, and is how it works like muscles, the more he uses them, the more it hurts, that was the only rule he could think of so far.

Allen continued to practice sudden stops using objects every time a bit bigger once he thought he reached enough proficiency with one. He didn't want to destroy anything of the orphanage so while he did go for heavier objects, not of them were bigger, since if he messed up, he could potentially destroy a wall or something, given that they are made of wood.

After a while he got bored and started moving objects on the orphanage, not as in a poltergeist kind of thing, but more like, moving a toy, a ball, a bin just one or two centimeters off, so they wouldn't notice it, but still ask themselves if they left the object like that.

He didn't really want to mess with theirs heads so he would only move one or two objects a week in different days, and wait for their reaction, while some didn't notice it, others had a puzzled look on their face and that made him chuckle to himself, but he knew it would be a matter of time until they got paranoid, so he decided to stop.

He didn't really want to traumatize the kids while they saw their toys moving, they would probably be scarred for life, just like that one movie "Wait, does that movie exist right now? Or it still hasn't happened? Would it happen if it's a different world but almost identical?" He pondered the implications of his favorite media releasing for the first time "Maybe I can release it and mark it as my own, in any case, would it be plagiarizing if it's another world and it hasn't happened?"

His mind started running while walked one of the hallways in the orphanage, then a sudden thought came across, what about his house? Where he used to live before, if he is in the past, can he go there and buy it to make sure it doesn't happen?, or if it's really a parallel world, would he be born in the same year as his previous life?.

Allen didn't really care that much for what year he was, or where he was, as long as he could survive it was okay to him, but these sudden thoughts changed everything. He ran as fast as he could to find an adult to tell him everything, where he was, what year, and even how he got here.

He kept running and running, and even used his powers to run faster and for longer times. He ran until he found one worker, John, it would've been better to find Ms Sarah, or even Ms Katie, but he needed to know now.

As he approached him, he raised his voice just to make sure John would listen "Excuse me Mr John!"

Startled, he jumped a bit, not expecting such a loud voice coming from such a small body "Yes Li- Allen, what's the matter?"

John wasn't really a good worker, but that is to be expected, they were always understaffed, and the budget got cuts every year, it made everything so much worse not only for the kids, but for the people working there as well. He just did what was required of him and then leave to his home, the kids didn't hate him, but they didn't like him either, it was a neutral stance, for both parties, he didn't want to get attached to any of the kids either so he kept the distance, just enough to know their names and how they would like to be called.

"I- I was w- wondering" Allen panted, grasping for air, crouched down, grabbing his knees with his hands.

"Take your time kid, I'm not going anywhere" John said "At least in two hours" he finished as he looked at his clock on his wrist.

It took Allen five minutes to breath normally "I was wondering" He started again "In what year are we in?"

John looked at him, wondering what this kid was talking about "Did you… run all over the building just to ask someone about the year? Are you okay kid?" He asked him, wondering if something was wrong with Allen's head

"No, yes!, I mean! Arghh" He expressed his frustration "Of course it would be weird to see a kid running around just to ask what year is it, but it's more than that" He thought to himself.

"Yes Mr John, I did run all over the orphanage to find an adult who could tell me the year, but not only that, I have more questions, like where are we, how did I get here…" Allen started enumerating the questions with his fingers.

Realizing what this was about, John let out a small "Oh" leave his mouth, He was just curious about his environment and living situation.

"I understand now kid, the current year is 1980, and… how old you told me you were again?" He asked, unsure of Allen's age.

"According to Ms Sarah, I'm five this year" He answered.

"Right, five, so you might have been born in 1976 or 1975, now the name of the orphanage… what was it again"

As he babbled about the name, hearing when he was born hit Allen like a truck, 1976, twenty years before his first life. The shock of hearing that made him fall flat on the ground.

"Oi kid, you okay?!" John asked him, watching how he fell down.

"Y- Yeah Mr John, just tired, shouldn't have run that much, can you continue please?"

"Are you sure you are okay kiddo?" He asked, not wanting to get in trouble for not helping out a kid if something happened to them in front of him.

"Yeah, I'm okay, just tired, please continue, tell me the name of the orphanage" He said with a determined look on his face.

Sighing to himself, John decided to continue talking "Alright, I remember now, it's called 'Sunflower orphanage' I don't know who called it that, so don't ask me."

As he looked down on Allen, he saw how sad he was, he decided to give me a bit more of info, not that it would change much.

"I did hear one of the ladies talking about the meaning of the name, apparently since a real sunflower it's not one flower, but a bunch of flowers gathered together to make a big one, they decided to name the orphanage like that, the kids being the flowers that make the big flower or something"

After saying that, he saw Allen with a pensive look "At least he's not sad anymore" He thought.

"Any other questions kid?"

"Um, yes! Where are we, exactly?" He asked him, a bit ashamed about it, the only thing he knows is that he is in a country where they speak British English "What if the name of the country is different, I need to know" Allen thought inwards.

"Well, we are in London, kid".
