I wake up lying in bed for what felt like forever before my alarm goes off. Groaning, I hit snooze. Getting up and ready for work, my daily routine dressing myself, putting on deodorant, and brushing my teeth as silence washed over the house no birds chirping.
I drive to the convince store I work at. Creaped out from the lack of vehicles there are. I slowly pull into my works driveway and park myself
I walk in and close the already opened glass door. "Damn, animals I work with."I mutter while I look around not seeing anyone in site.
( There are two cars outside, so someone must be here. I'll check the break room.)
I turn on the lights to see a chaotic mess a bunch of tables piled in the corner and chairs thrown about. (What just happened here)
"Turn off the lights," a quiet voice from the pile of tables says.
I jumped back, scared. "w-who are you." I ask
"You dummy, it's me, Leo. I was supposed to open with you, but didn't you see the news or at least heard the sirens you shouldn't have come in today."
" I hear sirens all the time where I live, and you know I hate watching the news it's filled with negativity." I defensively reply.
Leo sighs "Well, there's a virus going around where people are going crazy there like..z-zombies. I have no clue how long I can last here or when the electricity is gonna go out." He says, shaking and stuttering in the corner.
"Zombies?! Like the show Deadly bucketlist? Have you learned nothing from shows and games? Never hide out the apocalypse. Let's just fight it head on. This way, we can do what we want to survive, so let's pack up shit and leave."
I rush out of the lounge, grabbing a shopping cart and throwing a whole load of food and water into it, including a blowtorch. Leo walks out into the aisle.
"What the hell are you doing making so much noise." He hisses angrily.
"I'm packing supplies ya dummy, and I'll load it into my car...or I may just live on the roof. It's odd not to have seen any zombies yet."
"Im guessing they are more likely to be in populated areas, dude." He explains as we hear rustling of garbage outside the glass doors.
"U-umm, I'm going to the rooftop. As you said, I don't want to be down here hearing that." He says, running toward the ladder and climbing it.
I bring the cart near the ladder and start handing up food and water to Leo. He drops some cans that echo and burst through the store.
"Talk about being discret, Jesus Leo." I whisper as Leo looks frighten his body in shivers spoting something behind me through his small window of sight.
"What's scaring you so much?" I turn around being tackled by a drooling zombie with a grotesque, mangled face.
"Shit shit shit it's too early to be bitten, Leo!What are you doing? Throw something at it!" I yell struggling, holding the zombies face away from me.
Leo throws a jug of water down, hitting me in the head, makes me dizzy, and loosens my grip on the zombie, and it bits me on my shoulder.
"Ahh fuck!" I cry out in pain kicking the zombie away.
I limp over to the hardware holding my pounding head, I grab a hammer as the zombie rushes over to me. I move to the side it falling over the shelf, and I start repeatedly smash its head with the hammer.
I grab some supplies to cover my wound, and I wrap my shoulder in it. Heading to the ladder, Leo is screaming and throwing stuff at me.
"What the hell dude, let me up!" I yell frustrated with his panicked behavior.
"N-no, you were bitten. If you come up here, you'll turn and kill me s-stay the hell away."Leo pleaded.
"Fine, we don't even know if it works like the movies but I'm not going to deal with your scared ass anymore. I tried to help you, just stay up there, but I'm taking shit and leaving!" I walk out with the shopping cart and load up my car with the food and water left inside of it.
(Gosh, my shoulder is so sore, and it's stinging me. Hopefully, I can still drive with this pain.)
I hop in the car and turn it on, looking up at the long road now that it's gotten brighter outside. I see a few cars crashed wrapped around trees and large areas of smoke in the distance.
(I'll just go away from the smoke that could mean a whole lot of mess.)
I hit the gas going east towards the rural town of Hazlebub, a small quant town with very few houses and locally grown food.
I fly down the road way past speed limit to arrive there faster seeing houses with windows and doors broken. Corpses of zombies littering the roads that I run over.
I hear a loud woman scream as I drive by a house quickly. I slam on the brakes and hop out running towards the house with my hammer in hand.
"Hopefully, she's still safe." I slowly open the door with one of its hinges broken. Flipping my hammer backward so the claw faces outward.
Hearing bones crackling from a nearby room, I rush in seeing a zombie eating a young woman instantly dead as her neck was attacked and him munching on her throat.
The floor soaked in blood, my eyes filled with anger. I rush at the zombie and hit his head reapedity with the hammer while he was munching.
I pant as my arm tires out. (only if I was faster, im sorry.)
I hear whimpering in another room. I go over to the sound to see a young golden retriver chained to a wall, his leg bleeding with bite marks. I pet the dog, getting shocked in the process. I shake my hand from the shock.
"Ouch, well, what's so bad about having you with me? I've also been bitten." I unchain the retriever, and he jumps on me, licking my face all over.
I giggle as he licks my face. I couldn't help but smile as joy overlapped the somber feeling of mine. I hold the dog and look at his collar. "Let's see here you name is Coops huh."
He looks up and starts to growl bark and shake. Sensing something disturbingly nearby.
