Chereads / My underworld system / Chapter 8 - Rewards

Chapter 8 - Rewards

Your Highness, they have arrived. Should we let them in?

~Of course.

"Alright your majesty, I shall bring them in."

"Commander Justin, it's been a while since we met," the king said with a smile as we walked into throne room."

"I'm highly honored to be seeing you in person," Sophie's father said as he slightly bowed his head.

"So, were you able to deal with the soul beast overlord?"

As expected of a noble, joke around a little and then going straight back to business, I muttered inwardly.

Although there was nothing special about his appearance, he was an exceptional king and was better than most of the previous kings who had ruled Starhaven kingdom but, I couldn't say for sure since that was the information I received from my system and not from personally interacting with him.

"Sire, Adams and I were unable to deal with the soul beast overlord however, the both of them encountered and killed the soul beast overlord during their scout mission," Sophie's father said as he pushed Sophie and I forward.

"Justin, are you trying to tell me that an initial Expert stage cultivator and a peak Advance stage cultivator managed to kill a soul beast overlord?" the king asked as he raised his brows in suspicion.

"Yes sir," Sophie's father replied "Initially, I didn't believe them when they reported back to me so, Adams and I went to check it out ourselves and we discovered that they didn't just kill the overlord, they also killed quite a large amount of soul beasts in the area as well."

"So, this man still went back to confirm by himself," I said inwardly "seems like he didn't believe us when we said we killed the overlord."

~Hmm, the king sighed before continuing, so kids, what are your names?

"Kai Everette"

"Sophie Winston"

~Oh, you're commander Justin's daughter? He asked.

"Yes," Sophie replied instantaneously.

"Ha, that explains a lot of things, "the king told her with a smile "back then, you shocked everyone by being the first person in the past 300 years to become an expert stage cultivator at a young age. The first time I met you, you were a lot younger I don't think you would remember."

"But who are you boy?" I don't think I've come across someone of your age called Kai.

~Seems like Sophie is popular, even the king has a good impression of her but, how can he not know my name?

I mean, wasn't I supposed to be popular for shamelessly following her around but, I wasn't even recognized by the nobles, only my love rivals knew me, I muttered with a sigh.

"I'm an average commoner so it's understandable if the king has never heard of me," I said with a slight bow.

"Haha," the king laughed at my response "boy, I love your response, you seem pretty interesting to me."

"Thank you, your highness."

"Alright, since the both of you performed an outstanding feat by killing a soul beast overlord, I would like to reward you so, what do you want?" the king asked.

Although I didn't want any reward initially, things were different now. The king himself was giving me the privilege to pick whatever I wanted so, if I let it pass then it means I'm definitely insane.

"You don't have to make your decision now, if you can't think of something now, you can make your request at a latter time," the king suggested.

"There's no need for that," I quickly replied, "I already know what I want and if it's possible, I'll like the king to give me a Master level ability book and also I would like the king to grant me admission into the royal academy."

"I can grant you admission into the royal academy but, what do you want to use a Master level ability book for? Or don't you know that only Master stage cultivators can use Master level abilities."

"I know that already but, I would still like to have the Master level ability," I said, "so even if I can't use it now, I should be able to use it in the future besides, I'm only a commoner so getting things like ability books is very hard."

"Alright then, you will get the ability book as soon as you plan to leave and as for joining the royal academy, you should be able to join by the end of the month."

"So, Sophie, would you like to make your request now or would you like to come back when you've thought of what you want."

"I've already thought of what I want. I would also like to go to the royal academy, and I'll like to be trained by the best trainer the king can provide," she said.

"It seems you have more sense than the boy. Although he asked for something useful, he can't really use it now but, you asked for something that can improve your strength now and, in the future, but as for the person I'll ask to train you, it's up to him to accept you as your student so, you'll have to show him your worth."

"Also, get ready to go to the royal academy in the coming month, you'll be leaving with him, I wish the both of you good luck in your future endeavors."

"Edwin, escort them out of the royal palace and don't forget to give him the Master level ability," he said as he pointed at me.

~Yes, your highness.

What happened to our agreement? You clearly said you won't ask for anything, Sophie said with a snort as we walked out of the palace.

"Keep your voice down, we haven't left the palace area besides, we don't know who can be spying on us," I replied, "and where did your dad go, I don't see him around."

"He decided to meet everybody else besides, he still has a lot of work to do," Sophie said.

"Also why did you suddenly change what we were talking about? Stop trying to dodge my question and answer me."

"Since you want answers, I'll give you the answers you want. First, I gave you most of the credits for the overlord I killed also, I made sure I asked for the simplest things as a reward so how did I go back on the deal we made?" I asked her back.

"Tsk, you're still as shameless as ever, I'll be heading home now," she snorted.

"It's not as if staying around you will give me any benefits," I shamelessly replied.

JUST GET LOST!!! Sophie shouted.

~" Haha," I smiled as I moved towards my house, "she looks cute when she's angry."
