"Alright sir, the overlord is dead."
WHAT!!!
"How did it happen? Or was it some other powerful soul beast that killed it?" Sophie's father asked.
If it was another powerful soul beast that killed the soul beast overlord then, we must retreat and request for immediate back up from the royal army, we're not strong enough to handle a monster like that, he said with a solemn look on his face.
"Hmm, I don't think that will be necessary sir," I said, "although I did say the overlord is dead, I never said it was killed by another soul beast."
"Stop messing with me boy," he said a bit angrily "if we don't leave now and the new soul beast catch up to us then we will all die."
"I'm very serious sir," I said seriously "in fact, it was Sophie who killed it."
"How can Sophie kill a soul beast overlord with her current cultivation besides, Sophie just became an Expert stage cultivator few months ago," he said, "what you're saying doesn't make sense."
Seems like he won't listen to anything I say unless I can give him proof, I sighed inwardly.
"Sir, if you don't believe me, just call Sophie here and ask her yourself," I said with a deadpan look.
"Galvin!! "Come over here," Sophie's father called the boy guarding his tent.
"Sir, you called for me," the boy said as he walked into the tent.
"Call Sophie for me, tell her I need to see her now."
"Yes sir," he said before walking out of the tent.
~Kai, you better not be wasting my time by doing all this else, I'll bend every single bone in your body and feed you to the nearby soul beasts.
Seriously, what's wrong with this man and his crazy antics, I muttered inwardly. First, he threatened to kill me but now, he wants to torture me before killing me.
"He's definitely crazy," I muttered.
~Dad, you asked Galvin to call me here, is there an issue? Sophie asked as she walked into the tent with Galvin.
"Galvin, you can leave now," he said before continuing "Sophie, did you kill the soul beast overlord?"
"Yes, I did," she said as soon as he asked.
"Are you sure? Or did he force you to say this against your will?" He asked once more.
"Yes besides, there's no way a weakling like him can force me to do anything against me."
"That's impressive but, how were you able to do it? Even two initial Master stage cultivators would struggle against a peak soul beast over lord," he said.
"Dad, that's a really long story besides, the overlord is just a new overlord," Sophie said, "also, Kai assisted me as well."
"Dad, think about what will happen if news about me killing a soul beast overlord spread. Our family would receive so many benefits and I would receive so many cultivation resources," Sophie said with a smile "and who knows, maybe I'll be able to break through to Master stage in the next 6 years."
~Haha, I knew my daughter was the best, Sophie's father laughed "with this, all those brats from the noble families would start paying attention to you."
"But, since he also helped you, we can't keep all of the good stuff to ourselves, we'll also have to give him some of it," Sophie's father said.
"Heck no," I shouted, "as for the gifts I'll like to take that but, I don't want anyone to be told I assisted in killing an overlord besides, Sophie did most of the work."
"Dad, I don't think he is interested in any rewards besides, I know him better than anyone in this camp."
"How come you know him more than I d- wait, don't tell me you two are already in a relationship?" he asked with his jaws dropped.
NO!!! Sophie shouted.
"For now, no but in the future, yes," I said.
"Did you say something Kai?" Sophie's father asked with a look that was clearly saying repeat what you said if you dare.
"Nope, I didn't say a word," I hurriedly replied.
~Tsk, just wait and watch old man, I'll steal your daughter's heart someday and there's nothing you can do about it, I muttered inwardly.
"Better. Anyways, since the both of you were responsible for killing the overlord, you'll have to report this to the king yourself," he said.
"Why can't you report to the king yourself?" I asked with a frown "we're not the ones in charge of this mission, you are."
"It's true that I'm the one in charge here but, since I wasn't there when you killed the overlord, I won't be able to relay the information like the way the both of you would that's why you have to report to the king yourself," he said.
"Anyways, you guys can leave now," he said, "also tell Galvin to inform everyone that we'll be heading to the capital in some days."
…
"It's so good to be back," I smiled as I lay on the bed in my tent. Even though the army camp was not a nice place to be at, it was still better than sleeping in places surrounded by soul beasts.
"Alright, I better start cultivating," I muttered as I placed the soul shards, I had in front of me. After trying to cultivate for some minutes, I realized that I couldn't absorb mana from the soul shards, and I couldn't absorb mana from my surroundings as well.
"Is the defect in my cultivation related to my system or what," I muttered as I glanced at the soul shards in front of me "but, if that's the case then I'm going to be an Advance stage cultivator for the rest of my life."
"And for once I believed this system was going to make me overpowered," I sighed.
[Ding]
[Soul shards detected, would host like to convert soul shards to EXP?]
[Y/N]
"Seriously, I need to know what's wrong with this system," I muttered "first, it didn't allow me to cultivate and now it's just detecting the soul shards I've been carrying around for days. Maybe the system is still a Beta version."
"Anyway, I pick yes. Anything for EXPs."
[Soul shards conversion successful]
[You've gained 27 EXP]
[Total EXP: 147/1000]
"System, why didn't I receive any system point?" I asked, "I noticed anytime I receive EXP, I also gain the same amount of system points."
[Host can only receive EXP from soul shards and both system points and soul shards can be gotten by slaying soul beasts.
Notice to host: Host is unable to cultivate using the cultivation technique of this realm. Host can improve cultivation by getting EXPs.]
"Shit, I shouldn't have refused the rewards Sophie's father wanted to give me," I said a bit downcast "if only this system had informed me earlier."
"So, I can only get system points by slaying soul beasts huh," I mumbled as I stared at the system screen in front of me "seems like I'm going to be really busy in the nearest future," I said with a sigh as I began to pack my things.
