Chapter 93 - Chapter 93

"I thought of becoming a scientist, but it would take decades upon decades for me to get to the subjects I want to study. Earth's technology is too far behind Krypton's to even get started, however, Clark offered a suggestion of becoming a game developer." Raya explained. "While it's something I'm not very interested in nor cared for, it offers me an area to flex a bit of knowledge I learned on Krypton."

Leonardo nodded as Earth's technology is lightyears behind Krypton and it would be very difficult for a researcher like Raya to do her work. It would be like trying to build a rocket to reach the moon with stone age technology around you. However, becoming a game developer was a bit out of left field since Clark wasn't a gamer. So Clark saying such an idea was a bit strange, but it was true that Raya could put her skills to use. Since she could use what she knows and make various games or simulations for it.

"That is an interesting approach." Leonardo managed to say.

While Leonardo planned to chat with Raya some more, he suddenly felt his phone ring. Picking it up, he found Commissioner Gordon calling him. Which was strange since the man literally warned no one to call him unless it's a serious matter. For the man wished to have a lovely night at home.

"Leo, there has been a brutal series of murders at the supermarket. I need you to take charge and catch the person responsible as soon as possible." Gordon's voice boomed over the phone. "Don't worry about the bureaucrats and others, I will take care of them. Just get the killer as soon as possible."

"Alright." Leonardo said. "Send me the address."

A few moments later after hanging up, Leonardo received the address and looked at Raya. Over the last few months, she had a few minor changes to her appearance. Since the sun seems to make her beauty improve a bit more, while she finally was beginning to gain the strength of a proper kryptonian.

"Well, it was nice chatting with you Raya, but duty calls I guess." Leonardo lightly apologies.

"It's ok, I was planning to leave too." Raya said as if it had been her plan all along.

Yet, Leonardo noticed it was just her saying and acting since her body language told him otherwise. For why such a reaction, Leonardo didn't know and didn't plan to investigate it at this time. While the two can be considered friends, they only really chatted once in a while if they ran into each other at the Fortress.

After leaving the crowded area, Leonardo stepped into the alleyway and shot off into the sky heading to Gotham. Which only took a moment at the speed he traveled and touched down not far from the crime scene. After flashing his badge and getting a pair of gloves he walked into the supermarket where it was closed off and red liquid could be seen spilling out of a few aisles.

Upon seeing the first body, Leonardo let out a small whistle at the sight. Whoever killed them held a lot of rage since no spot on the body where the killer didn't stab, step or smash could be seen. Even after using x-ray Leonardo even got a peek at the bones and most were cracked or broken alongside a few piercing the organs and arteries.

From what Leonardo could make of the body, the man was fairly tall, over six feet, short black hair and stubble with a few large bald spots on his head. Overall the man appeared to be in his forties and seemed to be stuck from the side as he tried to race out of the aisle. Spotting the name tag that was soaking in the blood next to the body clearly knocked off when the killer was beating the man. Leonardo noticed the man's name as the word "Scotty" was printed on it.

Leonardo simply raised an eyebrow at it, but that was all. It was one of the few names he really disliked since it was the name of one of his old bosses in his own world. It was also one where Leonardo too wanted to bash the man against the shelves and various things around, when he worked in the grocery store. So not wanting to relive those memories that would make his anger rise just thinking about it, he turned his eyes to the bloody mallet, knives and crowbar next to the body. Leonardo noticed that all held price tags and lightly hummed as he moved on to the next body.

Upon seeing the next one, he wondered if the heavens were helping even if this was a different world. It was a blonde woman in her thirties and besides the very beaten body, Leonardo could swear it was a doppelganger. Since the woman not only had the same name but looked like a woman killed in a case he did a while back. For the woman was named Shanna and even if it was supposed to be a sad thing seeing such a brutally killed person. Leonardo felt happy for some reason.

Which only grew upon seeing the third one who also looked like a doppelganger. For what appeared was another Mike. The man of a shorter stature and balding who now had a new look with most of his face caved in.

"Is there any leads on who did it?" Leonardo asked.

"None at the moment. The cameras are down and none of the employees really want to say anything. If anything they are indifferent since the three didn't seem well liked by most of the employees or the ones working tonight." an officer who returned from asking a few questions answered.

'Well no surprise there.' Leonardo thought and didn't give it much thought.

Instead, he changed his focus on the employees working tonight. Chances are higher for the killer to be among them since it should take a while for such rage to be bottled up and unleashed. Leonardo won't dismiss other options but he put them lower on the list of possibilities.

"Get me a list and gather up all the night employees even if they don't work tonight. I don't care if they are in the middle of the horizontal tango or sleeping with teddy bears. Get them for me." Leonardo said to others. "Chances are high for who we are looking for is among them."

After investigating for a while, Leonardo made a few notes and went to the station. There over forty people were gathered and soon Leonardo began bringing them into the interrogation room. While he dismissed more of the older ones who were in their sixties or older. He still interviewed them to gain an understanding of their victims.

In the end, Leonardo was more surprised why no one killed them before now especially since this is Gotham. Even before he basically sat on the crime rate and lowered it by quite a bit, the three already made quite a few enemies.

Soon after bringing in a woman in her twenties, Leonardo noticed the strong scent of blood, the slightly swollen hands and face of furious and quick washing and obvious fatigue. The woman's hair was a bit in disarray and appeared like she tied it up in a hurry. Which made him a bit surprised, but Leonardo already expected the person he was looking for was a woman or a weaker male.

It's not that Leonardo wanted to sound rude, but he noticed that the killer wasn't physically strong from the weapons and the wounds on the bodies. Not to mention that he noticed the shoe size around the bodies were on the smaller side and didn't match the victims. Among those, he also found fingernail polish and a broken nail on the handle of the mallet. In which the woman had a broken nail and he could tell she hastily clippled her other nails.

"So was killing the three a spur of the moment?" Leonardo just straight out asked.

Clearly the woman was taken back at such a direct question. She just subconsciously nodded a bit before she stopped herself and shook her head.

"I don't know what you are talking about."

"Claire, I don't want to beat around the bush. I can see you did it, hell half the people in the other room watching can see it. You look like a wreck, and your face and hands must sting at how hard you scrub trying to get the blood off quickly." Leonardo said lazily. "Just admit it and explain, so you can feel slightly better."

The woman just sighed. For the next few minutes as she twirled her brown hair in her fingers she explained. The harassment and unreasonableness she endured from the three, but also her helplessness. For she couldn't find work elsewhere or anything that she felt was reasonable for her and close to where she lived. While she felt she was smart, she wasn't smart at the same time and unable to perform other jobs well outside stocking shelves.

In the end, she just felt like her last line snapped and she couldn't take it anymore and grabbed a few things around the store. From then on after the store closed, she incapacitated them and beat them until they died. For why none of the other workers didn't stop her, she didn't know since a few should have seen or heard it.

Leonardo just tapped his finger a few times before he left the room. Truth be told, he felt a bit underwhelmed, since Commissioner Gordon made it sound like it was a big issue. Only Leonardo felt that, given the others a few more hours, they would have gotten the same result.
