"Dawn Valar! What are you doing? They're here!" I groaned. That was Kendra, my rich adoptive mother.
Yep. I was adopted by rich people. Don't let that fool you. I was adopted 'cause I'm pretty and that's it(though I won't lie I have beautiful waist-length winter white hair, the best turquoise eyes and a perfect face structure, oh right my skin is super smooth and very light). My foster parents are business people planning to marry me when I'm older—for money—not that it's ever going to happen, but they can hope.
I'm smart enough to open my own business and I got a few people where I need 'em.
The only reason I'm still here is because of my sister Zia. I call her Z because all good sisters need nicknames for eachother, right? But, I don't get to be with her very often, my, 'parents' want or as they say need to teach her proper manners. See, after I came into their lives they started focusing on me instead of Z, so I was sort of her savior and I don't mind, she's really sweet.
Kendra glared at me like usual, she had chocolaty brown hair, soft gray eyes—that did not fit her—and her face was covered with makeup. What a fake, I thought
"Is this another party to find a good business partner?' I asked
"As a matter of fact it is," Kedra replied, "now, get ready. I will tell Zia to call you down when we are ready for you," She got out of the room and closed the door behind her before I could reply.
I was okay with that because I wasn't going to stay at their stupid party for more than thirty seconds. I got a backpack after I decided to look for the Disappearing boy. Yep, I still search for Ace. I mean seriously I need answers. Maybe Clair could join her! Oh, wait no she went camping with her family.
Clair's my best and only friend, not that I need anyone else. We were friends before the 'accident' and she's the only one who really believes me, everyone else thinks i'm hallucinating about the boy and the elemental storm.
She came from a rich family since birth, unlike me.
We met in school in our first year of middle school. See, a bully was—obviously—bullying a kid, I stood up to him and Clair joined me.
Ever since then we've been friends. Clair's a smart kid with a smart mouth.
She loves reading and she's gonna take over the family business since she's an only child, also 'cause she wants to.
As far as I know she hasn't had any big quarrels with her parents. Her mom stays home with her and her dad does whatever work business people do. They're such a happy family, wish I could say the same for my dead family or at least this one.
I start packing for my search, do I have a lead about Ace? Nope! That's sort of why I'm packing, I go out of the neighborhood to search or somewhere peaceful to research. I packed my computer to research, snacks and water for when or if I get hungry and my earpods for when I get bored.
I put on my sweater and checked my pockets if it was there, but I couldn't feel it. I then checked my jeans and sighed with relief as I felt the locket.
My first gift from Z when I first got here, it was then I made a vow to protect her at all costs. I gave Z a locket for her birthday too. The lockets were really similar, mine was heart shaped and silver, inside was a picture of Z. Hers was also heart shaped, gold and inside was a picture of me. I brought it everywhere, sorta like a good luck charm.
I finished getting ready. I wore worn out blue jeans and a worn out purple sweater, with my hair braided messily. I liked to look like I was poor, even though I'm rich, it really pissed my foster parents.
"Sis, you ready?" Z's voice called out as she knocked on the door. She had a soft voice and was a great singer. I let her in and she looked as beautiful as ever. She had all of her parents' best features mixed in the best way possible. Soft gray eyes and black hair just as long as the end of her neck. She was wearing a gown with a combination of red, orange and yellow, with suns circling at the tips.
"What chaos are you going to cause this time?"
I smirked, "What makes you think that I'm going to cause trouble?"
Z raised her eyebrows, "With that outfit?"
I raised my hands, "You caught me red handed."
"When will you be back?"
"A little before sunset."
"Okay, guess you should get going, but I really think you should put something on your eyes to bring them out. They're the most beautiful turquoise!"
I shook my head, everyone thought I had beautiful eyes! I slung my backpack over my shoulders and exited the room. I patted Z's head and ran down where the party was being held.
"This is our daughter Dawn!" James, my foster father, announced, glaring at my outfit, he had black hair, green eyes(which he was very proud of, though they looked ugly on him) and the usual too much hair gel.
My foster parents always put too many chemical products, probably to annoy me, knowing I hate the smell and because it's the complete opposite of my biological parents.
Kendra was at James' side glaring at my whole existence.
I smiled sweetly at them—though what I was going to do was gonna be damn bad for them. I turned to the muttering crowd.
"Who wants to see a performance?" The crowd nodded appreciatively. I smirked at my foster parents one more time and took a deep breath.
Then I started to leap and twirl, flip and backflip, doing the most graceful acrobatics. The crowd clapped, well until I leaped to the exit and turned. My foster parents looked at me. I was going to be grounded, like I care I thought, rolling my eyes.
"Sayonara!" I winked and dashed out of my prison.
