Chapter 9 - Chapter 8 Οχτώ

I remember coming home furious that sudden afternoon, my head over heels for something that still affects me till date. I slammed the door with all my man-power, as a passive information on expressing how appalled I was. "Tophy, you're back."

"Yeah, so what?!" I yelled at her.

"Huh? What happened to you at school?" My mom asked.

"Nothing."

"Are you su--"

"Nothing okay?!!" I barked and headed upstairs, only to be stopped in my tracks by my mom's next statement.

"Is it Remi again?" She asked.

"..."

"Tophy, I've told you like a billion times, learn to igno--"

"I can't ignore all these tests when someone is huffing discomfort on my neck, I never wanted to make friends with people but you persuaded me to, is this what you wanted all the while? A bounty on my head?" Normally, I wouldn't have said those things, but the fact that I was angry actually made me a lot smarter.

My mom sighed at the nothingness. "No Tophy... The reason why I compelled you to make friends is because..." She strained and persisted. "I didn't want a son who would think he was abandoned by everyone, a son who would think he has nobody, I wanted you to understand that sometimes, you have to work hard in order to be socially acceptable."

"And I did work hard, and what do I get in return, betrayal, scornings, and a price on my head!" I yelled again.

"In life, you learn to forgive past incidents, or you'll never move on."

Well, that was 6 years ago, and this is now. Nobody ever could predict that I'll be the one burying my mother.

DELAZ ANDERSON, 22TH OF AUGUST, 2021.

"

Mom." I honestly didn't know what prayers to send to the dead, all I remembered was the urge I had to die and to be buried alongside her grave. "... I have no excuse, I only stood and watched you die, now I understand what that old man meant when he said it was all my fault."

Suddenly, thunder clapped and the whole sky turned grey as it let droplets of rain to the earth. "I don't have any percent chances that I'll survive the apocalypse in my own soul, so please, prepare a space for me."

I was right, death had been knocking on my soul, but I pretended I couldn't hear him knocking, but now, I really feel like I want to open up.

I closed my eyes shut, trying to observe a one minute silence for my mom, not until I sensed the demeanor scent of death.

"I thought you wouldn't come." I whispered, already knowing who stood behind me. "You know, maybe you were too busy attending to your fans when she was busy dying, sacrificing her youthful life!"

"Christopher..."

"Don't you dare! Say my name."

"Everything that happened and is going to happen has already been written by the fates." I could have never guessed if Hades felt bad that one of his human bride had died, but the god only sounded like he was trying to pass a beacon to me. I understood, but I didn't just want to listen.

"Is that why you didn't take a step, because of some fate? Is that why you gave Death the permission to act by the will of the Fates? Is that why you told him to haunt me in my dreams, so that I'll be responsible for my mother's death?"

"..." Hades didn't say a word, he just stared at my mom's grave with a bitter face.

"Oh, so you knew, you knew that she was going to die and yet you sat down and watched? You behemoth! You could've stopped all these, you could've protected her! - -"

"The gods can't interfere with the Fates, it's not healthy!" He finally spoke up.

His words suddenly jerked me to the extreme, and so I stood up and turned to look at his cold face. "It's not healthy because your reputation as "God of the Underworld" might be threatened, nothing else!"

He scowled at me, urging me to keep quiet, but I couldn't care any less, this powerful god had already degraded himself before me, "You know, when I first met you, I really was glad that I had a dad, but maybe that was the wrong thing to be excited for."

Tears began welling up in my eyes. "Then after that blade was thrusted into her, i began asking myself, "What if my dad wasn't even a dad?"

I turned to leave. "You should've never met my mom, then just maybe I'd be a normal human." And just like that, I left and disappeared from the long lost appearance of Hades, my illegitimate father.

Tori's phone rang vigorously, and her eyes shut open as soon as the ringing began. That was strange, this tune that played on her cellphone was the worst she'd ever heard, and she had once considered changing her ringtone, but somehow, she forgot.

"Hello." It was a random occasion for her to receive morning calls during the weekend, as she had no friends to speak of, all her friends were either monsters or half-bloods, and almost everyone of them had no phones.

"Tori hey." As Tori heard that pale, rookery voice, she knew who was talking to her, but what she didn't know was how he had a phone.

"Uh? Christoph is that you?" It wasn't like she was expecting an answer to her question, but she just went on talking. "Where the hell did you go? it's been 3 days since you last came to school, I came to your house but didn't find you--"

"I'm at the bus-station at Walle Street, and in the next 30 minutes, you might never be able to stalk me again." Christopher simply stated.

"What? Why?" Tori was bewildered by how he spoke, what had gone wrong with him all of a sudden?

"I'm chasing my dream."

CHRISTOPHER'S POV

Birds chirping, green leaves, warm skies and fresh air, summer came at the wrong time.

Everything is just like a tragi-comical movie.

Once upon a time, I had this feeling that my life was going to be great, but not until my mother was killed, and now that I think about it, her death wasn't necessary, he just could've taken me if he wanted to.

I couldn't even hurt him with black plasma, despite that he didn't even raise his sword, and he kept dodging all of my attacks like he was The Flash in reality.

"By the authority of the Anti-Corruption/Infraction unit..."

So he is an anti-corruption official, and he was in the house to take me away, but, why me? Just because I'm a son of Hades? I didn't even inherit any godly abilities!

"Christoph."

Great, just the person I was expecting. "Hey." I greeted her with a wave, she was standing right in front of me, wearing a red sweater and black shorts, her sapphire blue eyes seemed to be enjoying the all-new summer.

Tori sighed and sat on the same bench I was sitting on, at the bus-station on Walle street. "What's going on?" She asked.

"A lot."

"Really? You called me here just to say that?" Tori quickly retorted, I don't think she liked that I was being resentful.

I kicked my feets on the floor. "I called you to say goodbye."

"You said today might be the last time I would ever see you, where are you going?"

"I'm going--" I wanted one thing for me, to become a super-hero whose job was to protect humanity and weigh justice with an impartial strength, but now, I must train to be strong, so as to take revenge on my mother's killer and to become human. But now, I don't know where to start this dream.

"I.."

"You don't know right?"

Furious, I stomped my foot on the ground, this conversation wasn't going well.

"Okay, now do you wanna tell me what's really gotten into your head?" She persisted yet again.

It took me a couple of minutes before I finally spoke up. "My mom... ... ... She's gone." I wanted to cry but I couldn't, and no matter how sad I was or how hard I tried, my tears just couldn't conform themselves.

I explained to Tori how mom was assasinater but I didn't tell her that mom's assasinator was her ex-worker, neither did I explain the things that he said, how he could make me human, I felt it would shatter her completely.

"So, where do you intend going to now?" She asked me after an elongated summarization of lies.

"Anywhere my destiny leads me to." I replied.

"Anywhere except camp Half - blood?" She asked.

"I'm not going to any camp."

"But why, it's a perfect place for a half-blood like you-" That exactly was the problem, I wasn't going to become human if I associated with more non-humans.

"How many times do I have to say this Tori, I have never been there, I do not want to be there, and I would never be in Camp Red-Blood!"

I met her expression, she seemed sulked, and for some reason, I hated to see her looking that way at me. "It's camp 'Half' blood." She said.

"Yeah whatever."

"I guess I can't force you then, I hope you live a good life, and please be safe." She stood up and began walking away. "But hey, if by any chance, you change your mind, I'll be at the KUYO SEAPORT by 8:30 sharp."

"For the last time, I'm not coming!" I returned with a scowl.

"Alright, see you around then."

The waves flowed softly as they approached the shore, leaving to the admirers, it's fresh scent of aquatic flavor. The seagulls quacked as their flock successfully dived into the sea for a catch. And the nearby ships roared with puffs of smoke as they approach the shore. The seaside was fantastic and the cool weather and calm clouds only made it perfect.

Tori stood on the dock, along the waiting line, there was full anxiety in her expression. She kept looking back and forth, calculating the physics between the stubborn fellow half-blood and the incoming ship, as the ship approached, she only became more and more anxious.

"Are you waiting for someone?" Gema tugged her clothes as she noticed her looking all around.

"Uh.. Actually yes, It's Christoph, he is supposed to be here with us," Suddenly, Tori remembered how Christopher had made it clear that he wasn't coming with. "I guess he isn't coming."

The Horns of the Gremor Mother ship blared fiercely and it called the attention of every travelling passengers.

"Good evening Ladies and gentlemen," the ship conductor spoke as he came out to meet the passengers, he was a crooked old man with a serious beard "We welcome you aboard in advance amd hope you have the best time-"

As the man spoke, Tori noticed someone far behind, he was wearing a black hoodie that hid almost all of his appearance and he had a black backpack strapped to his back. Tori didn't fail to recognize the pale face that was seemingly familiar.

"Jerk, he said he wasn't coming." She said with a supposedly angry tone. But as Gema looked over at her, she noticed the smile that Tori had on her face.
