Fatty Merlin, who could speak with confidence and composure in front of the freshmen and Locke, could only finish his first sentence when he saw Jasmine, a pretty female Spellcaster. Then, he began to tremble.
Locke guessed that he must have had little contact with the opposite sex.
Before Jasmine could get impatient, Locke pushed Merlin away and introduced himself to her. He told her that he was here on behalf of the grey-robed Magister.
"You're a knight?" Jasmine's eyes widened. Ever since she entered the Sanctum four years ago, she'd rarely seen knights. She'd only seen a few from the Hall of Knights in the trading zone outside the Sanctum.
"Yes." In the entire Sanctum, he was probably the only knight who studied impetus.
"Did Master Hermes introduce me? Let me check." The magic orbs that the Sanctum provided for every student were much more advanced than the ones in the academy. Locke had noticed this when he checked in with Angelina and Daenie yesterday.
These magic orbs could connect to the Sanctum's data in real time and could also communicate with their peers through the orbs.
Jasmine swiped her slender fingers on the magic orb and found the message.
"You're Locke, right?" she asked.
"That's right." Locke nodded.
"Alright then. From today onwards, you'll be working with us." Jasmine extended her hand to Locke. Unlike the other casters he'd met before, Jasmine gave him a good first impression.
"Harris! Come out and meet your new companions! "The female magician, Jasmine, shouted towards the pile of containers behind her.
"Oh, I'm coming!" A reply came from afar.
"Then I'll be going first." Locke and Jasmine's casual conversation made Merlin feel like an extra. His mentor's experiment in the afternoon was about to start and he had to go to the lab in advance to prepare.
"Go ahead." Locke knew that Merlin still had experiments to do. After spending half a day with him, he knew that Merlin was no worse than Angelina when it came to studying. As long as he persevered, Merlin would definitely become a great person in the future. That was what Locke thought.
From today onwards, Locke would be in charge of operating zone 43. There were only three of them in total, but they were responsible for more than four hundred slaves. Jasmine was the team leader, and he and another Lehrling called Harris were team members.
"Your task today is to register the information of the incoming creatures. Check the numbers and write down the data. Hand it to me when you're done!" Molly handed him a thick ledger.
Locke didn't train his mental power, let alone use a magic crystal ball. So, he had to use the most primitive method.
"Eh … Can I change my mission? " Luo Ke looked at the astonishingly thick account book, his mind a little dazed. The goose feather pen that Jasmine had just given him, under the spasms of his fingers, broke with a "crack" sound.
Jasmine put her hands on her hips and stared speechlessly at Locke in front of her.
"Then what can you do? Can you do the task of sealing the soul of a slave? Have you learned magic before? "Jasmine's series of questions blocked Locke's next words.
"Even a normal person can do such a simple registration mission, right?" Jasmine had never been kind to team members who didn't listen to her orders.
"Then let Harris do it. He'll definitely be faster than me." Locke really didn't want to do this kind of clerical work. He'd rather face major monsters.
Harris, another member of their team, had the strength of a mid-rank Lehrling.
"Harris still has to operate the machine to transport the slave creatures with soul imprints out of the warehouse. He's much busier than you!" Jasmine said impatiently.
Right above their heads, there was a frame made of steel. It was like an arm, nimbly raising and lowering piles of cages. Countless slave creatures passed through the frame, transported into and out of the transport zone.
This was the power of magic. The energy in the energy crystals was converted into mechanical energy through the magical alchemy and magic of the magicians.
Unfortunately, operating the frame required a magician with mental power. Locke wanted to, but he didn't have the strength.
"You said you want to seal the soul of the slave creatures with soul imprints? I might be able to help you! "Locke thought for a long time and finally found his strength.
"Huh?" Jasmine looked at Locke in confusion. "How?"
...
Bang! A two-meter-tall, green-skinned, black-clawed humanoid fell to the ground with a loud thud.
Locke patted the dust off his hands and looked at Jasmine. "It's your turn."
Jasmine reacted quickly and ran forward. She held the crystal ball with both hands and chanted some kind of spell with her eyes closed. A silver mist floated out of the crystal ball and formed a cuneiform character, drilling into the green-skinned humanoid's forehead.
When the silver character disappeared, Jasmine opened her eyes.
"You're stronger than I thought." She held her chin with one hand and circled around Locke a few times, poking his firm chest muscles with her finger.
"Didn't you say that these slaves are all sealed with a layer of soul imprint? They're no threat," Locke said with a smile.
"It's not the same." Jasmine shook her head. "Those Casters from the west coast won't seal you with a strong sealing effect. That's why the Sanctum needs to add another layer."
The slave creatures in charge of operating zone 43 were mostly between mid-rank Knechts and high-rank Knechts. There was no need to engrave soul imprints on the weaker ones, as that would be a waste of resources. Not to mention, the more advanced seals weren't something a group of Lehrlings like them could do.
"How many are there left?" Locke skipped the topic. He didn't know much about the west and east coasts. He only knew that one had a bad relationship with them and the other had a mediocre relationship.
"Thanks to you, there are still 47 of them today." Jasmine gave an accurate number. "I thought I'd be busy until night today."
Those slave creatures wouldn't obediently let anyone slaughter them. Although Jasmine was a high-rank Lehrling, it was still quite difficult for her to deal with them. If she encountered a tough one that caused her mental power backlash, she would have to rest for a few days.
After Locke knocked out the slave creatures, Jasmine sealed the soul imprints. Her work was much easier this way.
"Come on, let's try to finish them before evening!" Locke waved his fist.
Most major monsters and otherworld creatures had thick skin and flesh. Even if the Casters from the west coast limited them to a certain extent, Locke still had to be careful when dealing with them. They were all mid-rank or high-rank major monsters, and he didn't want to fail miserably.
