Chapter 10 - Chapter 10

Max screamed as Anaya threw him over the edge of the parking lot with great strength. "Max!"

Enyo yelled and dove after him. She was conscious of Hemlock and Anaya watching her. She grabbed hold of the ledge and then Max's arm. They hung there. Enyo pulled and swung Max back up. Then, she climbed up after him.

Max was panting on the floor, shocked by his close call. Enyo stood up and glared at Anaya, "Not funny."

"Oh?" asked Hemlock, "Not funny? I thought it was as funny as that one time you almost got Cynthia killed!"

"Shut it…" growled Enyo, "This has nothing to do with that!"

"Oh it has everything," grinned Hemlock, "Now I can finally get revenge on you for all those times-"

"All the times I was better than you?" challenged Enyo.

"You're going to regret that," laughed Hemlock, "Things have changed… or as Father would say… the tables have turned."

Enyo turned to Max, "Run," she said.

"What?" said Max, "I'm not leaving you!"

"Too bad," Enyo lifted Max and ran as fast as she could.

BANG! She felt pain in her left foot. Warm blood dripped down as she tripped. Enyo fell forward, dropping Max. She turned and stumbled back up. "Stay here," she said to Max, "Stay away from the fight."

"You're bleeding…" whispered Max, but he was too scared to follow as Enyo stood up and speed limped back to Hemlock.

"I can't believe it!" laughed Hemlock, "The great goddess of destruction, brought down by bait and a hostage!"

Enyo's face was calm and emotionless, "Look, I really don't want to kill an experiment okay?"

"Ha!" laughed Hemlock, "You've killed so much and now you don't want to? Don't make me laugh."

"You just did…" Enyo provoked.

Hemlock's smile faded, "You think you can just stop killing? Fight me! YOU WERE CREATED BY DEATH!"

Enyo's fists curled in and her eyes glinted. "Oop," muttered Anaya, "Now you've done it."

…

She woke up on a cold metal table. Her wrists and ankles were cuffed. She looked around and squirmed, trying to get out. Her eyes were burning and so was the rest of her body. Her muscles ached and she tried to say something. She couldn't. A mask covered her mouth and she tried to get it off. "Chill out," said someone.

She looked and saw three people standing over her. They looked like doctors. "Call the boss, tell him experiment 48 survived." A man by the door nodded and walked out.

One of the doctors was holding a syringe and pointed it at her. She squirmed and tried to scream as the doctor injected the red liquid into the side of her neck.

This time, she screamed. The oxygen mask fell off and the doctors stumbled backwards. Pain, starting from her neck, shot through her entire body and she convulsed. She fought against her restraints.

SNAP! The cuff around her left ankle fell off. She kicked upwards, hitting one of the doctors in the face with a sickening crack. The doctor fell to the floor, their mask bloody.

SNAP! The one on her right wrist came off. She slammed into a small table next to her. It crashed to the floor. A small fire started.

SNAP! The cuff around her right ankle broke. SNAP! The one around her left wrist did too. She rolled off the metal table and landed on her feet. Then, she collapsed to the floor, shaking in pain.

One of the remaining two doctors reached for her. "Don't touch me!" she screamed, swinging her arm out.

CRASH! The doctor flew ten feet back and crashed into the wall, leaving a human-sized indent and a spot of blood by the head. She was in too much pain to think about it. The last doctor looked at her in fear and ran out the door.

She lay there, shaking in pain. The fire around her was spreading and soon the entire building would be in ashes. She closed her eyes and let the darkness in.
