Chapter 19 - Doing Quests

The next morning, Bai Shen and the others once again left his mansion and were going to see if they could complete the Territory's Quests.

"I'll be taking Meixue, Diane, and Little Feng. We should also help them grow a bit. This New Era is different from everything that we knew before, so it may be a good thing to learn about these things now."

Bai Shen had already talked with Diane and Little Feng about this. They quickly agreed, since if they didn't take advantage of this period of easy growth right now, then when would they do it?

Bai Shen's words also enlightened Diane. She understood that if she was the same as before, a normal human being, there was no way she could survive for too long outside.

What if Bai Shen couldn't protect her every single time?

"I also need to grow stronger, for myself, for Little Feng, and most importantly, to pay back these people who saved our lives."

Diane's thoughts were pretty simple, actually. For her, it worked just like karma. Receiving people's goodwill, she should give it back.

"Aunt Xiu, Jiang, and Ruoxi, along with Uncle Tang, would form another team. This should be enough. In case something happens, I want you to retreat back. There's no need to risk your life for some experience."

Saying so, Bai Shen and his team were the first to leave his mansion. Shortly after, Ruoxi and the others also left.

Since the Territory Token offered an invisible field-like protection for the mansion, there was no need to be worried that someone would rob it or ambush them when returning.

-----

In less than a minute, Bai Shen and his team encountered their first zombie. And it wasn't only one, but a lot of them could be seen roaming the streets unhindered.

"Diane, you and Little Feng stay a little back. Meixue and I would incapacitate them first before allowing you to have the last strike. This should give you half the experience of the zombie, the other half going to me and Meixue."

Said Bai Shen after a while. Meixue also nodded. She too wanted to help their new members level up a bit. Who knows, maybe in the future they would be invaluable assets to their team.

Diane's Talent was a healing one; she was studying medicine, so it wasn't so surprising for her to have that. Little Feng was a bit special; he had a Talent named Wind Control.

When Bai Shen heard that for the first time, his eyes lit up, and he directly asked the child what his Talent description was. Unfortunately, there were only question marks following the description of the Talent.

It could be because of a few reasons. Little Feng was too young, he didn't have sufficient Physique to freely use it, or maybe it was simply too strong for such a low-level person to use it, yet...

All these were unknown for now, but Bai Shen believed that one day Little Feng would be able to make great use of such a powerful-sounding Talent.

Just like they planned, Bai Shen and Li Meixue firstly took down the zombies by cutting their legs or immobilizing them to the ground, allowing Diane to use her dagger to pierce their heads.

Little Feng was still a bit young, but despite being afraid, he seemed to follow Bai Shen's advice and think that it was all just a game. All he had to do was stab the zombies with his light-sword and level up.

The first few kills almost made the two of them puke everything they'd eaten, but fortunately, it quickly passed by, and they grew numb to it.

Meanwhile, Bai Shen also received the notification of completing the Quest for his Territory a few times.

He was also assured of the other group's safety. Since they all accepted the Quest individually, he saw that everyone contributed with at least one completion of it.

Bai Shen, Li Meixue, Lin Ruoxi, and Fatty Jiang with Aunt Xiu completed it two times already.

It was because while Bai Shen and the others could incapacitate a zombie normally, sometimes mistakes could happen, resulting in its death.

But this wasn't exactly a problem, since there were a lot of zombies around. It could be said that after killing one, two more zombies would show up.

And it was no wonder, since Shanghai had a population of around 30 million people.

The city is located on the coast of the East China Sea between the mouth of the Yangtze River (Chang Jiang) to the north and the bay of Hangzhou to the south.

The municipality's area includes the city itself, surrounding suburbs, and an agricultural hinterland. Shanghai is China's most populous city, and the municipality is its most populous urban area.

"It's been less than 30 minutes since we went out, but I already have over 1000 Coins, enough to buy either the Class Change or Bloodline Selection Building."

It was said that money could make a man happy, but in this apocalyptic world, Coins could make a man stronger.

As for which one fit better for Bai Shen, it was evidently the latter. Money was only paper at this point; what truly mattered was for one to become stronger using any means necessary; it was all for survival.

Two hours quickly passed. Bai Shen was grinning from ear to ear after checking his System panel.

Li Meixue was also a level 8 at this point, the same as Lin Ruoxi and Aunt Xiu; Fatty Jiang was only a level 7.

Since Diane and Little Feng were both level 5, close to 6 right now, it must mean that Uncle Tang was the same.

"This is going on beautifully," thought Bai Shen, but his thoughts were quickly interrupted when hearing a gunshot coming from an alley 40 or 50 meters from them.

"Everyone, stay back. I'll go and check the situation..."
