Chapter 2 - Shadows of the Past

"Amaya? Is that really you?" I whispered, my heart pounding in my chest.

Lilith Aurelia,

"Oh, Darling, I haven't seen you for a while now. So how was your vacation?" Nikolai's playful words reached my ears. Once we were best friends. But now it's a different story.

"Hey, it was great. But I couldn't get you out of my mind," I retorted, dripping with sarcasm.

"Eh, is that so," he replied with a smirk, clearly enjoying our banter.

Interrupting our exchange, Keitaro burst in with excitement. "Guys, guys, I have great news!"

"What is it?" I asked, intrigued by his enthusiasm.

"We have a new student, and her name is Amaya. Amaya Celeste," he announced.

"Yay, I should befriend her," I chuckled, relishing the opportunity to make new connections. Making friends was a hobby of mine, as I found it fascinating to learn more about people. Yet, at the same time, I harbored a deep hatred for humanity. I couldn't truly understand myself. Everything seemed monotonous and boring.

Our homeroom teacher interrupted, introducing the new student. "Hello, everyone. We have a new student who just transferred to our school. Please make her feel welcome. Her name is Amaya Celeste."

As Amaya introduced herself to the class, her voice timid and shy, I couldn't help but notice the resemblance she bore to my old friend, Amaya Celestine. The same blonde hair, the same features. It struck me like a bolt of lightning, sending my mind spiraling into confusion. However, it had been so long since I had last seen Amaya Celestine, as she had tragically passed away.

Lost in my thoughts, our gazes met, and a jolt of recognition coursed through me. I quickly averted my eyes, startled by the intensity of the moment. The nagging thought lingered in my mind—could she be her? Could this new Amaya Celeste be the same person I had lost so long ago?

Amaya Celeste made her way to the back of the classroom, choosing a corner to settle in. An idea took root within me. "Maybe I should go and talk to her," I contemplated, driven by an inexplicable curiosity.

"Why did you stand up?" Keitaro, seated next to me, inquired curiously.

"Just want to befriend the new kid," I replied, masking the whirlwind of emotions stirring within me.
