Chapter 28 - Chapter twenty eight:

George found himself in the presence of his ailing mother, Mrs. Joyce, within the comfort of the house he provided for her. The weight of her age and illness hung heavily in the air as George shared the news of Justin's forthcoming marriage with a sense of excitement. However, the atmosphere abruptly shifted as Mrs. Joyce posed a probing question, inquiring whether Justin was the one who brought his intended bride home. George's anticipation quickly turned to confusion, and he proceeded to explain the circumstances to his mother, detailing Helena's belief that Justin's union with Paige's daughter would bring prosperity to his business endeavors.

Mrs. Joyce, summoning her strength, offered a somber response, declaring that the impending wedding would not endure. George's emotions surged forth, a mix of anger and bewilderment, as he demanded an explanation for her seemingly pessimistic outlook. Undeterred, Mrs. Joyce rose from her bed, her determination evident as she took a seat. She began to unravel a long-buried tale from their family's history, recounting the transformative event that unfolded when Justin's mother tragically passed away. She recalled the profound change that overcame Justin, with his once carefree nature giving way to aloofness and detachment from most people, save for his fondness for an unusual alien pet.

George, taken aback by the resurfacing memories, assured his mother that Justin initially resisted the idea of marrying the woman in question. However, he explained how he convinced Justin to honor his late mother's wish for them to marry, a desire she had expressed since their childhood. It was upon hearing this sentiment that Justin reluctantly agreed to the union.

The weight of Mrs. Joyce's words became unbearable for George, and he implored her to rest, dismissing her foreboding remarks as foul. Anger coursed through him, and he muttered, "I shouldn't have come here." To his surprise, his mother heard his words. Sensing his frustration, Mrs. Joyce insisted that George must understand that Helena and her sons harbored ill intentions toward Justin. She suggested that Helena might be plotting something, using her influence to push for the marriage. George reacted with disdain, hissing at her words as he gathered his belongings, determined to leave.

Just as George was about to exit, Mrs. Joyce's voice cut through the tension once more. She asserted that Justin, much like George himself, struggled to maintain a lasting relationship with a good woman, except for someone like Helena, who was willing to submit to his every whim. George's patience wore thin, and he sternly told his mother to be quiet. Slamming the door shut behind him, he retreated to his car and sped away, leaving behind the echoes of their heated exchange.

Helena found herself in a complex situation, torn between her relationship with George and her own desires. Feeling unsatisfied and unfulfilled in her intimate life with George, she sought solace in the company of a new partner, Alex, who was considerably younger but had ignited her passion in ways she hadn't experienced before.

As Helena engaged in a casual conversation with Alex, they shared playful and flirtatious messages. Alex expressed his eagerness to engage in intimate activities with Helena, using explicit language that elicited a laugh from her. In that moment, the laughter served as a momentary escape from the dissatisfaction she felt in her current relationship.

However, Helena's laughter abruptly ceased when she heard the sound of George's car approaching. Realizing the potential consequences of being caught in an inappropriate conversation, she swiftly closed her phone and hastily adjusted her appearance to meet George.

In Justin's opulent estate, preparations for his upcoming wedding were in full swing. He approached Lisa, one of the household staff, and requested her assistance in arranging the room for his soon-to-be wife. Initially, Lisa let out a sigh of reluctance but eventually agreed to the task.

Lisa meticulously cleaned and prepared the room, ensuring every detail was in place. As she finished her work, Justin assigned her additional tasks. Overwhelmed, Lisa could no longer contain her frustration and blurted out that she could not continue to handle all the work he assigned to her. She suggested that it would be more appropriate for him to hire a new housemaid.

Justin, taken aback by Lisa's outburst, became angry and retorted sharply. He reminded Lisa of her position as a staff member, emphasizing that she was expected to fulfill her duties as part of her role. In a moment of heated exchange, Justin, inappropriately referring to Lisa as a "slave," asserted his perceived authority to do as he pleased.

Unfazed, Lisa mustered her courage and stepped closer to Justin. She firmly reminded him that she would not remain in his employ for long, implying that she had plans for her own future. The tension between them hung in the air as they confronted their differing perspectives and asserted their respective positions.
