"Your grace.." Damien paused in his tracks when Ian called for him. He was holding Eve in his arms and taking her to their room. When he opened his eyes a few minutes ago, they were sleeping soundly in the carriage. Someone even covered them with a blanket. The moment looked warm enough for him to pause and admire her face.
But her back would be stiff if she kept sleeping in that strange position. So, he held her in his arms and took her out.
To his surprise, it was already close to morning and the maids had left a long time ago. But as he entered the manor, he found Ian standing there with a worried face.
"Not now, Ian. Evangeline might wake up with your noise. Wait for me here." he instructed with a grim face. Ian looked like he wanted to protest but after a moment of reluctance, he bowed his head.
Damien took quick steps toward his room. Thank goodness the maids had already left the door open and the room was well lit and warmly made.
