Chereads / BECOMING AN ANCESTOR / Chapter 8 - Shield

Chapter 8 - Shield

Take this and strike like this.

That's what I've been trying to say. Ever since the day I killed the panther and was taken to the top of the tree, I have been interacting with the leader of the group, teaching them how to make tools like the spear and the dagger. It may be risky for me to teach them about this, but it seems like he trusts me more.

That's how you do it, and it ends up like this.

In addition to him, others from the group also joined us to learn. I noticed that some already demonstrate greater reasoning ability. Those who succeeded earlier than the others, or those who picked it up after a while, were few; some even gave up.

Shout.

The leader let out a shout, not out of anger but because he had managed to create his first spear.

Congratulations, leader.

Of course.

Although what they called a spear was just a sharpened wooden stake, unlike mine, which had a stone tip, the one I used on the panther ended up breaking, but they could barely create even this one.

After teaching them for a while, I took some time for myself. They didn't bother me, as the reason was that I was tending to my wound. Getting injured by that panther could have been fatal for me; it could have cost me my arm, or even worse, my life. I don't know what will happen when I die. Perhaps I'll come back as a dinosaur? Who knows.

Fortunately, I didn't lose my arm, and I probably won't die from the wound. In fact, I feel that it's because of this injury that the leader has no intention of attacking or expelling me. It's something he feels comfortable with, me being injured. I think I represent a lower threat as a young and wounded individual, but if this gives me more time to prepare in case he tries anything, all the better.

Finally, the stream.

I hadn't seen it before because it was a bit far from the group, but after exploring for a while to map the forest for creating routes, I found a stream. This was my salvation, despite the fruit I eat having water; it's not enough.

After approaching the stream, I remained alert and placed my hand on my dagger just in case. I took some water and cleaned the wound, then gathered some plants I noticed helped, like I found out by seeing some of the group members eat them when they were unwell. So, I had the idea to test them on my wound, which worked. It helped prevent infection along with the water. I'm managing to treat this wound while experimenting with what might help. So far, I haven't had any negative reactions.

After finishing treating my wound, I returned to my workshop, as I like to call the place where I build my tools.

Arriving at my workshop, I first checked if anyone had tampered with anything. With the assurance that everything was in its place, I decided to create a new tool.

Up to this point, I had already made spears, daggers, axes, and hammers. This should be enough for offense, so now I need something for defense.

A shield.

But... how can I create a shield that would be useful? Although there is no technology here that can threaten me like many predators, the animals here cannot form complex plans or create large weapons, but they can still kill me if they manage to strike me, just like the panther. I was lucky, but I can't keep counting on that luck, so I will create a Viking-style shield.

Even though I don't have any metal to use or any way to handle metals, I should be able to create something that resembles the resources I currently have. Well, let's get to work
