[City Guard – Iron Defense Part 3]
[After being tempered by blood, your troops once again gained something that other soldiers did not have, namely cohesion, responsibility, and faith. They are willing to take it to heart and sacrifice for it. Please use these things to unite them and lead them to victory.]
After the severe dizziness, Lann and Black Wind both lowered their heads and retched. The portal disappeared behind them, bringing up the wind and sand.
The system beep made Lann suppress his physical discomfort, and he knew something was wrong.
Looking up, he saw the village outside the walls of the capital city of Cintra. There were ruins everywhere, and flames were burning between the houses. Broken arrows and fragments of armor were scattered on the ground.
The battle here seems to have ended, and the victorious soldiers are plundering their spoils wantonly. In addition to military merit, this is the biggest purpose of their trip.
In plain view, a group of black-armored soldiers are tearing off a girl's clothes, while two Cintra soldiers lie on the ground.
"Haha, it's time for you to meet a real man!"
Lann heard the Nilfgaard soldier who was tearing the girl's clothes scream.
Several soldiers who were waiting aside and taking a break looked at the sudden appearance of a man and a horse. The simple and solemn armor on Lann's body was not Nilfgaard's armor. It was obviously an enemy.
A soldier with the fastest reaction draws his bow and shoots.
A cracking sound sounded. Although Lann's mind had not yet reacted, his right hand, like a conditioned reflex, drew the steel sword from his back, and in a flash cut off the rapidly approaching arrow.
"May the sun shine on us..." The Nilfgaardian soldier holding the bow murmured, surprised. "He cut the arrow in the air..."
The soldier who was over the girl, hearing the commotion, slapped the girl. Just as she raised her head, a flying steel sword embedded itself in her head, causing her to fall backwards and hit the ground.
"Enemy attack!"
Shrill screams sounded, and black-armored soldiers appeared in various streets and alleys.
Lann slowly drew out the silver gryphon sword from his back, and the golden lion eyes reflected the flames.
One after another the soldiers surrounded Lann. Although these Nilfgaardians were only infantry, they were enough troops to bulldoze a small town. They appeared here together only because this small village was close to the capital and the army had just passed through, so extra people were left behind.
It is not so much that they are cleaning the battlefield, but rather having fun while resting.
At this time, the soldiers were lazing around. They were awakened by the cry of 'enemy attack!' but realized that the enemy was only one person. They didn't disperse yet because they were purely interested in watching the spectacle.
After all, Lann was wearing an armor that was not simple at first glance, and he was obviously a knight.
"Where did this guy come from? Those eyes make people uncomfortable. He is really a freak."
"Who knows, it seems that it appeared here suddenly."
"Maybe he's a sorcerer? But sorcerers don't dress like that..."
"He killed one of ours by throwing his sword. He has quite a bit of strength."
"That sword looks like it's worth a lot of money..."
Only five of the soldiers who had witnessed Lann's skill stood firm as the others bravely approached him.
At the front was a big man with an axe. He roared to cheer himself up and stepped forward first, swinging the weapon like a windmill.
Lann stepped forward and slashed the opponent's entire body from his left shoulder to his right waist with a powerful slash.
First. Lann thought silently in his mind.
Lann glanced at the surrounding soldiers with his emotionless lion eyes, and said indifferently: "Are you sure you are just watching?"
The soldiers' expressions changed. They were Nilfgaardians. The unknown knight in front of them actually dared to kill one of their men in front of them.
Another soldier rushed forward, waving his sword like a whirlwind. Lann kept his sword still, as the soldier approached, he forcefully raised the sword upwards, splitting the opponent's head in half. He then made an agile and dodge turn around the body of the soldier who still maintained his inertia.
Lann advanced without looking back, swinging the sword hard.
The second.
At this time, he felt his heart beating wildly, and there seemed to be some substance in his body that was being continuously produced due to the battle. As the blood spread to all parts of his body, and as the battle became more intense, this substance also Let him wield the sword with increasing power. This substance was the Adrenaline produced by the witcher's body.
The next soldier couldn't stop and wanted to run back but was already less than five steps away from Lann. He had no choice but to use defensive counterattack in the hope of buying some time to wait for the support of his teammates. But surprisingly, he managed to block Lann's first blow.
But what followed was the second chop, the third chop, and the fourth chop. Each chop was more powerful than the last, until the soldier fell to his knees to the ground, his own sword forced into his body.
The third.
He snatched the sword from the corpse that was kneeling on the ground and threw it like a spear, piercing the archer who had tried to attack him from behind. The archer fell to the ground, inert.
The fourth.
The soldiers watched Lann kill four of his companions in an instant as if he were taking a leisurely stroll, and finally realized the seriousness of the matter.
After all, they were the iron army, and they quickly formed a battle front. This gave them confidence again.
It seems that although they understand the seriousness of the problem, their understanding is not deep enough.
Lann raised his left hand, without needing to consciously control his hand, as soon as he thought of the effect he wanted, his fingers formed a mysterious gesture.
[Aard Sign!]
The shockwave started from Lann's hand and spread out in a fan shape, knocking down the seven or eight soldiers on the outside of the formation. And the dozen soldiers behind took a few steps back, leaning on their comrades to stay upright.
The tight infantry formation was instantly destroyed.
When the frontline soldiers stood up, they discovered that Lann had already penetrated their ranks.
Lann murmured expressionlessly: "I don't want to count anymore."
The soldiers looked at him blankly.
The next moment, a storm of steel and flesh raged through the crowd.
[Whirl!]
Lann spun constantly, unleashing sword strikes with a speed that the human eye could barely follow. The soldiers tried to defend themselves by raising their swords, some were lucky and managed to block a blow, but they were quickly overwhelmed by the following attacks, which found the vulnerable points of their defenses.
Lann panted slightly to adjust his breathing. He had just activated this skill with his physical strength, and it felt as if he had sprinted 80 meters with a normal person's physique.
This kind of consumption is nothing compared to what it was before becoming a witcher.
On the other side, the Nilfgaardians lost a dozen of their companions in an instant and were frightened out of their wits. They retreated frantically but did not notice a beast with shiny black fur running towards them.
Black Wind's amber eyes flashed with excitement as he advanced, displaying the look of a stalking predator.
Wherever Black Wind passed, soldiers were sent flying one after another before crashing to the ground, bones broken, and tendons torn.
"This is not a horse, this is a monster, come here and deal with it first!" A soldier shouted as he was thrown by Black Wind.
Lann cut off a soldier's arm with his sword and placed his left hand against the enemy's chest.
[Aard Sign!]
With a bang, the man was sent flying, blood gushing from every pore of his skin.
"That's not a human, it's a monster, a witcher! Come over here and kill him first!"
The soldiers were bewildered and confused, faced with the choice between an unknown war chariot-like beast and a magical killing machine in human form. They even hesitated about which direction to take to escape.
Finally, a soldier yelled at the top of his lungs: "Keep your distance and use bows and arrows!"
"Black Wind, get out of the way!"
The rain of arrows was something that most magical creatures were not immune to. Survival instinct led Black Wind to move to the side.
