It was an unconscious action, a small whim on Maria's part. But she decided to shoot at Lea. Her gun was poised directly at Lea, and she fired.
The first one to notice this was Emily, who looked shocked at what Maria had just done. The horror on her face was evident before Emily ran toward Lea to save her.
But it was already too late by that point. The shot reached Lea, but it did not harm her. Instead, the shot flashed a white light, and the monsters backed away. The intensity of that light was enough to scare them away.
Lea's spear made quick work of these monsters, and she gave Maria a small wave of gratitude.
"You are doing good, Maria. Keep on shooting the monsters, and we will be good."
Lea confirmed before she went back to killing monsters. The small victory caused Emily to clutch her heart. It had stopped beating for a minute, and she had felt faint.
