Chapter 19 - Returning Home (1)

"I announce this dungeon as mine!"

With that short yet powerful announcement, the dark empty space began to crumble as the dungeon core was absorbed into Kalle's body.

He could feel the energy moving from his left hand to his right hand before it left Kalle's body and entered the silvery blue staff.

When the dungeon core had all been absorbed by Kalle and entered the silver staff, the dark empty space had all crumbled down as Kalle now found himself in an empty white room, a complete contrast to the black room.

But he didn't stay in the white room for long as the white room also cracked and the scenery in front of him once again changed.

It wasn't a completely white or black room this time. But instead, Kalle found himself in a familiar environment.

Asphalt roads, old buildings standing everywhere as far as the eyes looked, and the chaos that happened right before it all happened.

He finally returned back to Earth.

'Congratulations on clearing and claiming your first dungeon.

You gained 100 dungeon points.

You unlocked the legacy dungeon.

With 100 dungeon points, you've unlocked another slot for a contracted monster!'

The staff's voice rang inside his mind again and Kalle was prepared to ask the staff about what all the words it had said so far.

It was his first time ever hearing about dungeon points. He didn't have a single clue what it was.

The legacy dungeon, on the other hand, wasn't a completely foreign name as he had read it in the note of Gilgamesh's gift.

But still, he didn't know anything about it other than he needed to go inside the legacy dungeon to hatch the egg from Gilgamesh.

However, the one thing that was a huge question mark on Kalle's mind was the words that he had said when the staff gave him instructions to make a contract with the two goblins.

'You have been imprisoned by the gods in this eternal prison. Forced to fight until not a single part of your soul remained.

I have the authority to set you free of this curse. You just need to trust me and accept me.'

Kalle remembered those words even when he had only said them once due to all the questions and curiosity popping up when he said those words.

'Imprisoned by the gods in an eternal prison?

Forced to fight until not a single part of your soul remained?'

Especially those two sentences, they made Kalle wonder what actually was the dungeon and the creature being put inside it.

'Who are these gods? What are they?'

'Forced to fight? Why? How?'

From seeing the two goblins' appearance when he fought them in the goblin village and comparing it to when he saw them in the dungeon core space, Kalle could feel a completely different vibe from them.

In the village, they looked like feral creatures that would do anything to kill him.

But in the dungeon core space, they looked just like him, an intelligent creature that was capable of creating a civilization of their own.

Were they really mindless monsters that had an urge to kill humans on sight or were they creatures just like humans?

But all of his questions seemed to have to find another time to be answered as Kalle realized that the supposedly empty road wasn't really empty.

Although the people had all evacuated and there wasn't a single ordinary person on the street, Kalle finally realized that behind him, there were several cop cars and the cops themselves staring at him.

And of course, they didn't greet him with a smile on their faces.

"Stop where you are and don't move a single muscle or we will shoot!"

When Kalle turned back, he saw those cops behind the portal that was now completely white in color as it had lost all the red color.

"Raise your hands!"

Kalle followed their instructions and raised his hands, but he wasn't paying too much attention to them as his eyes were glued to the white portal in front of him.

Other than the color that had completely changed, Kalle also felt the mana making up the portal begin to agitate as they began scattering out.

Not for long, the white portal crumbled down on its own, disappearing from the world as it revealed a man wearing a skull mask and holding a silver staff in his hand.

"Drop your staff and reveal yourself!"

The cops shouted as they kept their nozzle pointed towards Kalle.

Kalle didn't have any plans to go against the cops and he doubted that he was bulletproof.

Kalle was about to do what he was told to do when the staff suddenly sent images to Kalle's mind.

It was the moment when he met Gilgamesh and he told Kalle to lay low at first before he got enough powers to go against the so-called gods.

He didn't understand at first, but Kalle quickly understood what the staff wanted.

Kalle still raised his hand when he turned towards the cops shouting at him.

But silently, he activated basic body enhancement on his feet and doubled it with leap before kicking his feet against the ground.

The police saw the sudden movement and pulled the trigger on his gun.

But due to the speed the double enhancement gave him, Kalle instantly traveled tens of meters away at the speed of an arrow and the police's bullet hit nothing but air due to the cops' slow reaction time.

Kalle repeatedly used the skill to go into alleyways and get out of dead ends, before then stopping at a secluded area where no security cameras were present.

"Whew! Not a day in my whole life that I thought I would be running away from the police and actually got away with it!"

Kalle smiled wide as he realized the feat that he had just done and patted himself on the back.

"Now I need to make sure Vella is safe."

Kalle then took off his mask and put it inside his inventory.

Kalle then looked at his silver staff and asked, "Staff, can you also put yourself into your own inventory?"

As if not wanting to entertain Kalle's questionable answer, the staff stayed silent and didn't answer his question.

"You know I can't just come back home bringing a staff that had been seen by the police. They would know my real identity and the place I live in. It would waste all my efforts running away from them!"

Still not giving an answer, the staff just suddenly shrunk, small enough to be put inside his palm.

"Oh! While you're at it, can you change into something I can wear so that I will be with you all the time? I am quite a careless person."

Hearing its new master's request, the staff just complied and turned itself into a silvery blue ring that was the perfect size for Kalle to wear on his index finger.

"You're the best, staf- wait no you're not a staff right now… You are the best, ring!"

Kalle then walked out of the secluded area, observing his surroundings closely, and made sure he didn't run into any cops just in case they still recognized his clothes.

But he still chose the closest route back to his apartment, he had to make sure that no harm came in his sister's way.
