They are Crystal Demons!
The Demon Tribe hadn't arrived yet, but the appearance of the Crystal Demons had already caused panic. If it were just the Demon Tribe, each race's warriors could at least put up a fight. But once infected with the Crystal Poison, most could do nothing but wait to die.
