Chapter 43 - Chapter 43: The Magic Statue

"If we can't, we'll have to use the tracking technique." Renka said.

The three of them had just searched around the area again to see if they had missed any clues, but there was no luck.

[Tracking Spell] belongs to natural magic and produces much less magical disturbance than elemental magic, but it is still possible to disturb some magical beasts that have a keen sense of magical power.

"Use it, but stop immediately if anything moves." Baldwin admonished.

Renka nodded as she crouched on the ground, her hands closing in on the few drops of blood left behind by the lion and scorpion beast.

A small white flower grew out of the speck of blood, then quickly formed a dandelion-like pom-pom, then the seeds on the pom-pom began to float up in one direction.

"It does seem to be flying."

[Tracking Spell] produces a small flower that mimics the act of tracking a target, turning into a dandelion seed representing the target's flight over a period of time.

"It's so strange though, why are the seeds floating along the shore of the lake? Didn't the lions and scorpions cross the lake directly?"

Just as the three of them were wondering, a sharp whistling sound came from over the ruins of the old castle.

  "Stop it!" Baldwin said.

Lenka immediately stopped casting the spell, while Baldwin pulled her and Edward on board and ducked under the shadow of a tree.

A dragon-shaped creature was seen rising up from the sky inside the ruins, and then vigilantly cruising around the ruins of the old castle.

  "It's a dragon?!"

"Yes, but it seems to be a sub-dragon species." Baldwin had vampire eyesight, and he could make out that the dragon had a smaller head and had front claws and wings growing together.

Aaron does not possess the intelligence of a dragon and is limited in the magic he can use, but has a strong sense of magic.

After cruising around a few times, the Aaron swooped down to this side of the lake, an act that made the three hunters very nervous.

  "Crap, did they find us?"

However, halfway through the flight of that magical beast, a huge water monster suddenly rushed out of the silent lake, biting straight at Aaron.

That water monster was as huge as a giant whale, but had a long flat mouth similar to a crocodile. It leapt over a hundred meters from the surface of the water and was about to bite that sub-dragon.

But the sub-dragon was no slouch, flapping its wings and swirling sideways to avoid the blow, and spewing a mouthful of searing spit at the water monster in the air.

The spit caused the pained water monster to lose its balance before slapping flat into the water with a loud splash.

The sub-dragon let out a shrill whistle of triumph, but it didn't get to be triumphant for long as a jet of water erupted from where the water monster hadn't entered, hitting the sub-dragon with a lopsided fall a great distance away, nearly falling into the water.

After readjusting his flight attitude, Aaron fought to flap his wings and fly high.

It barked provocatively a few times, but having nothing to do with the overlord in the water, it flew back over to the ruins unhappily.

And the water monster gradually sank, and the rippling water returned to silence once more.

The three hunters who had witnessed the struggle were a bit jittery at the moment.

"We seem to have been saved by that water monster." Baldwin said.

That sub-dragon should have noticed the disturbance of magic over here, but flew over past the water monster's territory, so it was attacked.

"The reason why the lion and scorpion beasts are circling along the lake shore is probably because they are also afraid of this water monster." Renka said.

Edward nodded and said, "Let's also follow the shore slowly, since this is a water source, we might be able to find traces of the Lion Scorpion Beast's life."

The three began to make their way carefully along the edge of the lake.

Along the way, many small demonic creatures appeared, such as young demonic wolves and non-venomous snake monsters and the like. Although these demonic creatures were also very fierce, they were no match for the three of them.

Logically speaking, the fact that there were more of these small magical creatures was considered a good thing, indicating that there were no powerful magical creatures nearby that could threaten their existence, such as giant-mouthed demonic grasses, sub-dragons, and water monsters and the like.

Of course, this also suggests that the lion and scorpion beast's habitat is not here.

"If only we could find another way to get here, the bodies of all these demon wolves and snake monsters would fetch a good price." Baldwin said after a small battle.

The skins, claws and teeth of demonic wolves, the scales and entrails of snake monsters, and so on, were all valuable materials. It can be used for tanning, alchemy and whatnot.

Unfortunately, they were not good enough for the three of them to carry, and it was too dangerous to let other hunters in to carry them.

"In the future, we can organize elite hunters to come and hunt, and then have the vampires carry the material out."

Although the vampire has a fear of silver and fear of light such a fatal shortcoming, but they are very advantageous when dealing with magical beasts, not afraid of poison and not afraid of curses, by the lion and scorpion beasts bite is estimated to be still alive and kicking.

"You're a devil." Baldwin teased with his mouth, but he also thought it was a good idea.

"In the future, we'll have enough vampires we can enslave that this will be a great hunting ground to exploit, and it will still be hard for other humans to compete with us."

"But this area has been restored to its natural original form, we shouldn't destroy it at will." Lianca of the Elves was a natural environmentalist.

"Aren't humans, elves, and vampires also part of nature, as long as they are controlled to a certain extent, hunting and competing with magical beasts against each other is not against the laws of nature." Your son said.

Just as the three were discussing the laws of man and nature, a roar came from the distance.

"It's the sound of a lion and scorpion beast!" Renka's long ears perked up.

The other two were also energized, it seemed they had not lost their target.

The three of them put the subject aside and grabbed their weapons and felt their way in the direction the roar had come from.

Oddly enough, the hissing had been coming through intermittently, as if the lion and scorpion beast was fighting something.

"Did you guys feel the ground shaking?"

  Edward said, stopping abruptly.

The other two stopped as well, and then felt the earth tremble slightly.

"Look over there, you guys!" Renka pointed ahead.

There was a monastery-like ruin there, and behind the broken walls, something huge was moving slowly.

  "It's the Golem!" Baldwin shouted.

It was a stone statue more than a dozen meters tall, with its head carved into a hideous devil and its body carved out in the shape of armor. There was a glowing magic stone the size of a basketball on its chest, and a glowing spell formation engraving stretched out from around the stone, spreading all over the statue's body.

It was only seen slowly raising its fist and then swinging it out with a thunderous momentum.

After a loud bang, a huge beast smashed through the ruined wall and fell to the grass in the distance.

It was the very same lion and scorpion beast that had fled, with Rienka's arrow still sticking out of one of its eyes.

However, at the moment, it had many new scars on its body, and one of its front paws had even been ripped off.

But even as miserable as it became, it struggled to get up and try to get back into that ruin.

"Why doesn't this lion and scorpion beast fly away?" Renka asked.

Before the other two had a chance to answer her, they saw the golem stride toward the lion and scorpion beast, the ruined remains of the wall and stone bricks like a child's pile of sandcastles, easily kicked to pieces by giant feet carved out of obsidian.

The statue walked up to the lion and scorpion beast and clasped his hands together then raised them high in the air, then slammed them down.

The giant fist slammed hard into the head of the Lion Scorpion Beast, and the proud lion's head exploded like a rotten tomato.

After killing the Lion Scorpion Beast, the huge and emotionless Killing Golem didn't stop, it slowly stood up and walked in the direction of the three hunters.
