Chereads / THE DOUBLE LIFE OF A HOOKER / Chapter 21 - Chapter 20: Her rude attitude

Chapter 21 - Chapter 20: Her rude attitude

The next morning the blaring of the alarm had me jerking up from bed. Shit! I exclaimed loudly clutching my racing heart. I have never had to sleep with alarm before, but because of yesterday incident I decided to set the alarm before going to bed last night.

The alarm was still blaring like it was having a quarrel with someone. I turned around with a look of irritation towards the object. I was tempted to smash the damn thing to shut it up, but unfortunately that is my phone.

I picked it and quickly turned it off, echoing in relieve when blissful quietness reigned in the room once again.

I checked my phone if I have any message. There was one from Cheryl wanting to know how I was doing? And why I was in LA.

Sophie and her big mouth. She has probably told everyone about my business here in LA.

Cheryl's message came in late last night when I have already gone to bed. I turned in early since I didn't have anything else doing.

I quickly replied to her Whatsapp message telling her I was alright and was only going to be in LA for few weeks.

I let the phone fall to the bed, and then stretched to remove the kinks in my joints before I got down from the bed.

The brightness from daylight made my room bright. We are currently in longer days, so the day breaks early. Summer has always been my favorite season and I can't wait to explore the LA beaches. I heard they are to die for.

I threw a robe over my sleeveless night gown and made my way to the kitchen for a much needed coffee.

While My coffee brewed I popped in two slices of bread in the toasting machine.

And then got out two eggs to fry.

When the toast was done, I buttered it with peanut butter set it on a round white plate. Fried the egg and placed it on the side.

Breakfast ready I sat down at the island with my cup of coffee to eat.

Before I started eating I turned on the music to drown out the silence in the kitchen.

I played game with my phone as I ate my breakfast.

Done I made my way upstairs to get ready for work.

It sounds weird when I think about it. Sophie was right yesterday. It feels weird getting ready for work. A work that doesn't involve me being on my back, or any other weird position the clients felt like.

As I walked out of my bed room wearing a beautiful plain red gown with square neck, falling just above my knees, and a matching high heels cover shoes, and a small handbag perched on my shoulders, I felt good inside myself.

Despite the reason why I was doing this work I felt good.

I walked out of my apartment and ran into Cassius who was also leaving his apartment.

"Hey!" he called out first .

"Hey," I turned in his direction. He was dressed in a round neck white T shirt, black jeans and a white sneakers. Two stud ear rings in his ear. He looked like he was off to somewhere.

"How was the interview?" He asked as he locked his apartment.

"I got the job."

"What! That is great," he expressed with a look of joy in his face as he came to join me.

I nodded smiling as well.

"So are you going to work?" He asked as we headed towards the lift.

"Yeah. You?" I pressed the button on the lift, and we waited side by side for the lift to open.

"Visiting my sister. She called that she needed someone to watch my nephew as she has an emergency at work."

The lift opened and we both walked in.

"Is everything alright? With your sister?" I clarified .

"Yeah. She is a banker. Something about an account. Her usual sitter called in sick this morning."

"That is too bad."

"Yeah. But I told her she was going to pay me whatever she is paying her sitter for coming to her rescue. Actually, I think I will ask for double as this is an emergency," he smiled obviously joking.

"You should. Childcare here must be crazily exorbitant."

"You have no idea."

The lift stopped and we both walked out to the lobby, and then turned towards the parking lot.

"So how many kids does your sister have?"

"Two. A five year old niece, who is now in kindergarten and a two year old nephew."

"You are going to look after a two year old?" I teased giving him an incredulous look.

"What, you don't think I am up to the task?" I quirked a brow at me.

"I mean..." I purposely let my words trail off so he could make whatever meaning he wants, a teasing smile on my face.

"I have you know that I am very good with kids," he defended with a twinkle in his brown eyes.

I stared at him as if evaluating him for his words. He was gorgeous, no doubt, and very down to earth. I have no doubt that he will be good with kids.

"What?" he asked when I stared at him long. His brown eyes were still twinkling at me.

"Nothing just agreeing with your words," I muttered with a soft smile at him.

"I think this is my stop," I said when we got to my car. I pressed the key pad on my hand to open it. I opened the door and was about to enter when Cassius stopped me.

"Wait!"

I stopped and turned to face him.

"Will you have dinner with me later, today?"

"Are you cooking?" I wouldn't mind sampling his food again.

"I was thinking we go out. I know pretty good restaurants around here," he smiled at me.

"You are the chef. I will take your word for it," I turned to enter my car.

"Is that a yes?" He asked through the window.

"Yeah," I started the car.

"Have a nice day!" He called as I started to drive out. I horned in reply and drove out of the parking lot, waving at him when I drove around and caught sight of his tall figure.

When I got to work, I walked through the revolving door and headed towards the second floor, this time using the lift.

The email I got last night had said to come to Ms Love office.

When I got to the second floor there was a reception desk, and I walked up to the young woman there and asked for Ms Love's office.

She pointed me in the right direction.

When I got to her door, I knocked and then entered when I heard her say come in.

The woman on the other side of the desk looked to be in her forties, auburn hair, dressed in a grey suit, and black clear glasses perched over her nose. She had her attention on the computer in front of her, but looked up when she felt my presence.

She took off the glasses over her eyes and ran her eyes over me. Her gaze judge as they travelled from my head to my toe.

I squirmed under her intent regard, but remained calm outwardly.

"Chanel Stone?" She asked with a little bit of attitude. From her rigid expression it was obvious she doesn't like me for whatever reason.

I nodded.

"Sit," she waved to the seat in front of her and slipped back her glasses.

I ignored her cold and unwelcoming attitude and did what she asked.

"You need to fill some paper work, afterwards we will go to security to get your ID card." She said all these without looking at me.

She took out all the documents she wanted filling and dumped them in front of me, and then went back to her work.

I stared at the lots of document with a sheepish expression on my face as I realized that I didn't have a pen. I didn't feel comfortable asking the woman for pen, but I had no choice.

"Excuse me."

She looked at me with a blank expression on her face. The cold intensity of her regard nearly changed my mind. "Can I have a pen?"

The expression she made at my question was like I have failed at some test that I didn't even know I was having. She looked unimpressed about something.

She took a pen from the pack on her table and threw it on the document without speaking and then returned to what she was doing.

"Thank you," I said politely, not minding her attitude.

In silence I began to fill the documents. Most of it was about my health and insurance. Doing what I did, I made sure to check myself from time to time, and I was very careful with clients, never taking any chances.

"You worked at  Dudley groups?"

Her question got my attention, causing my heart to skip. I looked up to answer to find her already watching me. There was a weird expression on her face like she was trying to catch me in something.

"Yes," I answered, remembering that the name was among the places Amelia wrote that I have worked in.

"I have a friend that works there and she has never heard of you."
