Chereads / THE DOUBLE LIFE OF A HOOKER / Chapter 26 - Chapter 25: What is she doing here

Chapter 26 - Chapter 25: What is she doing here

The sight of Amelia was like a massive blow to my system. The shock of her presence was so strong that I literally felt weak in the knees and on the verge of collapse.

What the fuck is she doing here?

The pounding in my chest grew even louder, and now for a different reason.

I couldn't stop staring at her.

She looked so good in her black belted jumpsuit, which she paired off with a red open toe four inch sandals that matched the red designer bag perched on her forearm. Her hair was parked stylishly, and her face perfectly made up.

I wondered if she makes herself up, or someone does it for her.

The make up is on the bold side but fit her slightly broad face perfectly.

She made her way towards us in a confident and elegant stride, her eyes fixed on her husband.

"Hi, honey," Malcolm greeted with a thin smile on his lips. Looking as if he wasn't pleased to see his wife, but that didn't stop him from leaning down to kiss her when she stood a few inches away from him.

As his lips drew closer to touch hers, Amelia moved her face to side to evade his approaching lips, and his landed on her cheeks.

Malcolm showed no expression to his wife's rejection of his kiss, and merely straightened up with his usual confident bearing and stared at his wife impassively.

"So what brings you to my office?"

Instead of answering his question, Amelia turned her icy gaze in my direction. The feel of her eyes on me caused the breathe in my lungs to cease. All I could think about was the last time we saw each other and the kiss we shared.

I started to feel warm inside. The desire to feel those gorgeous lips on mine again made the small organ between my legs throb.

I watched breathless as her blue eyes grew intense with the reflection of her desire. I felt my skin burn under the furnace of her gaze. I couldn't look away from her even if my life dependent on it. And then the look was gone in a flash, and her eyes returned to its usual iciness.

"This is Chanel Stone, my new assistant," Malcolm said when he noticed his wife staring at me.

"Chanel my wife, Amelia."

"How do you do?" I reached out my hand to shake hers.

She slowly lifted hers to take mine her while keeping me hostage with her mesmerizing eyes.

I shivered as the skin of her hands touched.

"I see my husband can't help himself," she muttered coldly, and then turned her head to look at her husband with a raised brow. Her hand still holding on to mine. It was a perfect fit that I didn't mind.

Malcolm didn't react to what is obviously am accusation in Amelia's words. "Don't worry honey, I don't intend to repeat my last mistake. I love you, and I don't want to loose you."

His words made me look up at him. He looked so sincere that I believed his words, but when I looked at Amelia she was staring at him with veiled hatred, and it was obvious she didn't buy any of the things he said.

Being witness to their cold interaction with each other made me wonder what happened to them.

Was there ever a time they were in love. Had to have been, if they decided to get married.

So what happened?

"We shall see," Amelia told him coldly and then returned her attention to me. Her cold stare made me a little nervous, and terrified.

I watched her apprehensively wondering what she intends to do next. She was still hanging on to my hand. Her grip on my hand tightened all of a sudden. I had to stop myself in time from wincing in reaction.

"Don't fuck my husband," she warned coldly shocking me.

"Excuse me!" My two brows climbed up to my forehead in surprise.

"Amelia please. You are embarrassing me," Malcolm pleaded and warned at the same time.

"I wouldn't have to, if you just kept it in your pants," Amelia spat at him, turning again to glare at him. Her hand dropped from mine as her whole attention focused on her husband.

I breathed in relief, but missed the feel of her hand in mine.

"How many times do I have to say I am sorry!" Malcolm yelled in frustration, moving away from his wife, like he was scared of doing something in his frustration. He fell on his seat and then looked towards his wife, his grey eyes bright with his irritation. "You asked me to fire her and I did. What more do you want me to do?"

Amelia scoffed mockingly at him. And then those icy blue eyes once again looked in my direction. "And then you went right ahead and hired someone similar. Although," she paused, and her eyes ran over me with indifference.

"This one looks a little different. I guess your taste has shifted to short and curvy women," she taunted, her voice cold and hard.

The coldness in her voice sent chills down my spine. I didn't envy her husband. Being on the receiving end of such coldness from her. It terrifies me to think about the gorgeous brunette looking at me the way she looks at her husband.

And also what is with people calling me short. Five ft six in a woman is not short.

"Look Amelia, can we not talk about this here," Malcolm chanced a look in my direction.

"What. You do not want your assistant knowing what a man whore you are?" Amelia taunted again with a cold gleam in her eyes.

"For godsake I have no interest in fucking my new assistant!" Malcolm yelled banging the table harshly, which made me jump, but Amelia remained unruffled and calm like she was used to seeing this burst of temper from him.

Amelia stared at him for few seconds, before asking. "And you expect me to believe that?"

"Yes," Malcolm answered strongly.

Seeing that the guy almost kissed me before his wife walked in on us, I found it amazing that he could lie with such a straight face. He was looking straight at his wife as he said the words.

Damn. I was amazed at the perfection of their acting. They were good.

Amelia acting like she has never seen me before in her life, and Malcolm acting like he doesn't want to get in my pants.

Is this what marriage is all about? Lies and deception?

"Can you excuse us, I have something to discuss with my husband," Amelia coldly dismissed me.

"Of course," I said softly and hurried out of the room.

Outside the door I threw myself backwards against the door, exhaling deeply. Every part of me was shaking from bearing witness to the strong intensity that was Amelia and her husband. Such strong personality clashing like that. Almost made me want to collapse on my knees.

I shook my head as if to clear everything I just witnessed and then made my way to the cubicle.

I settled down and then stared at the computer wondering what next.

Would probably be to log into the system.

I got my login details sent to my phone.

I took out my phone and opened the place where I saved the message and used it to log in.

As I was scrolling through the system something caught my eyes. It was a book. I took it with a frown between my brow wondering who it belongs to.

I flipped open the pages to see it was a detailed instructions left by the previous assistant about Mr Valentine's schedule, and needs.

It had all his activities for each day. What he likes for lunch, how he takes his coffee. His dry cleaning place. His favorite coffee shop. His tailor.

There was just a lot in the book. This woman who ever she is, was efficient.

I get that she was fucking her boss which isn't good, but looks to me like she was a damn good assistant, and she just made my life a lot easier.

Using the book left behind by the previous assistant as my guide I started to get myself familiarized with Mr Valentine's schedule. I was determined to be as good as I can be in this job. I know the reason why I am here, but I don't want to do a half hearted job.

If I was going to earn Mr Valentine's trust I will have to work hard to be a descent assistant.

The door to his office opened and Amelia walked out. My heart skipped at the sight of her, but she spared me no glance and walked away like I didn't exist.

I was slighted by her snob, but remembered that she can't exactly act like she knows me here. That might blow my cover.

But that didn't stop me from watching her as she walked off.

The day went well, with little hitches here there, that I was able to correct. By the time I left work I was so tired that all I wanted to do was eat and go to bed.

I was very hungry as well.

Mr Valentine had needed me in a meeting that lasted through lunch.

I had just opened my car door to enter when someone called out to me.

I paused and turned to see a long legged blonde, who could very well pass for a model making her way towards me.
