Chereads / THE DOUBLE LIFE OF A HOOKER / Chapter 16 - Chapter 15: She is a friend

Chapter 16 - Chapter 15: She is a friend

"Um, hello, have you seen us," I pointed to her and then myself.

"I was the only exception."

"I bet," I mumbled under my breathe.

She gave me a look, but said nothing.

"So how do I become his secretary?"

"You have to figure that out for yourself. The interview is tomorrow."

"What!" I gave her an incredulous look. How the fuck does she want me to get hired as a secretary tomorrow when I didn't even submit an application.

"Don't worry, I know you are capable. There is a reason that I chose you."

"You keep saying that," I grumbled under my breathe, unable to shake the feeling that she is just flattering me. "What about application? I don't remember submitting one."

"We have already done that for you. All you have to do is show up for the interview and make sure you are hired."

"And then what?"

"Honey, you do what I am paying you five million dollars to do," she looked at me with humor in her eyes.

I rolled my eyes at her. "Not that. I mean why do you want me to seduce your husband?"

"To get his secretes of course. Men talk when they have their guard down, unfortunately, my husband has never let his guard down with me," she lifted her glass to her lips.

I don't know if she did it to hide her face from me or she actually wanted a drink.

"So yours wasn't a marriage of love?" I arched a brow at her.

She scoffed like I have I just said the most ridiculous thing ever. "We married for a reason, alright, but love wasn't part of it."

"Oh. So why?"

She gave me a look that reminded me my boundaries. "So how do I know the secretes you want?" I changed the subject.

"You will know, and I want you to let me know immediately."

The seriousness in her eyes made me look at her. I wanted ask what she plans to do with the information but I was certain she won't tell me.

A knock on my door interrupted us and she gave me a questioning look.

I shrugged telling her I don't know who it could be.

"You haven't been here long to have made friends," she commented as I walked past her towards the door.

"Actually, made one yesterday," I told her and then escaped into the living room before she could say something.

As I made my way to the door, something told me that it will be my handsome neighbor on the other side.

I was right. When I opened the door, Cassius stood on the other side, but this time fully clothed. He had on a brown long sleeve buttoned up shirt, blue jeans and a brown shoe on his leg. Wearing his beautiful smile as well.

"Hi," I said brightly, pulling the flowing parts of my robe together. It is a little chilly this morning.

"Did I wake you up from sleep?" He looked concerned about that.

I shook my head at him. "Don't worry, someone already beat you to that."

"Oh, you have a guest?"

I nodded.

"Well, I came to give you this."

I looked down to see a covered plate in his hand.

"What is it?" I took the plate from him, and then looked at him for answer.

"Open it," he smirked at me.

I did.

There were tasty looking pastries on the white ceramic plate. Chocolate croissants, and donuts.

"Wow! you made this?" I looked at him in disbelief.

Instead of answering he looked behind me with interest in his eyes.

I followed his line of sight to see Amelia making her way towards us in all her elegance. She was captivating to watch.

Today she wore a black one hand top, and a wide leg dressed black trouser which she paired off with a white slightly heeled sandals. Her wavy hair floating gorgeously around her shoulders. Her face perfectly made up.

I felt dowdy in her presence. Anyone will feel dowdy in her presence. And it didn't come as a surprise that she easily stole Cassius attention.

She came and stood beside me, and then those piercing blue eyes fell on me, with questions in them.

Blushing furiously I made the introduction.

"Amelia meet my neighbor Cassius. We got introduced last night when he came around to borrow salt," I smiled up at Cassius, and then reversed the introduction.

"Cassius, Amelia, my..."

I looked at Amelia wondering how she wanted to be introduced. I couldn't say employer, that might bring up questions, that I know she wouldn't want me answering.

"Her friend," she stretched out her hand to Cassius, who smiled widely at her before taking her delicate hands in his broader one.

"Pleasure to make your acquaintance," he raised her hand to his lips and gave it a light kiss.

The look on his face was certainly making his pleasure known.

I felt a dark feeling creep up inside me. A feeling that I know so well.

Jealousy.

"I am married," Amelia said sternly, taking her hand from him.

"Lucky man," Cassius smiled again not losing a bit of his confidence.

Amelia stared intently at him and then turned to face me. "Make him work for it," she said cryptically and then walked off leaving only the wonderful smell of her perfume behind and Cassius drool.

I frowned briefly at her confusing words and then pushed it off and returned my attention to Cassius who was still staring in her direction.

"Hey, will you stop drooling over her," I smacked him playfully over his hard chest.

"I can't help it. She is hot," he laughed, sneaking another look down the corridor.

"Whatever," I turned and walked into the apartment.

He followed me.

"Jealous?" He asked as we walked through the living room.

"You heard her. She is married, meaning she is out of reach," I muttered walking into the kitchen. I set the pastries on the kitchen island and then picked up Amelia's glass. I stared at the stain of her lip stick on the glass, which brought back the memories of her kiss.

I felt a warm glow in my lower belly recalling the hot kiss.

"You know that doesn't make a difference," Cassius said, leaning his tall frame across the island.

His voice snapped me out of my thoughts and I looked at him. He was grinning at me, with a teasing glint in his brown eyes.

"You would really go after a woman knowing fully well that she is married?" I arched a brow at him.

"No, but I will go after a sexy blonde woman, who is so mysterious that she won't even tell me what she does for a living," Cassius stared at me with heat in his eyes making me blush.

The question of my occupation had come up last night but I avoided answering it.

I opened my mouth to say something but my phone rang on the island. I picked it up and answered without looking at the phone.

Before I could say hello, my best friend spoke.

"So how is fucking a millionaire husband going?" Her voice was so loud that it echoed out into the kitchen.

I blushed to the root of my hair and quickly ended the call before Sophie could put her foot further down her throat.

"Let me take this," I said to Cassius without looking at him, and quickly hurried out of the kitchen.

Inside my room I called Sophie back.

"What the fuck, Soph!" I whisper yelled into the phone as she picked.

"What! I was only asking how your new job was going," she defended hotly.

"I was with a guest," I whisper yelled again.

"Oh. You already have him in your apartment. Girl, you are a fast worker..."

"Not him," I snapped, cutting her off.

"Oh. So who is it then?"

"My neighbor," I mumbled and sat down on my bed.

"A neighbor we like or don't like?" Sophie asked in a knowing tone.

I rolled my eyes and then said. "Like," with a blush on my face.

"Fuck girl! Tell me about him," Sophie muttered excitedly.

"I will do that later. I have a lot to tell you, but right now I have to go and entertain my guest. And no, not in the way you are thinking," I added before my best friend could say a word. I know her, and she has a pit for mind.

She laughed. "Don't do anything I wouldn't do," she teased.

"That leaves very little to do," I teased back heading to the door.

"Bye Goldie locks."

"Bye ginger head."

When I came back into the kitchen Cassius was patiently waiting, but had his attention on his phone.

"Hey!"

He turned and looked at me. "Is everything alright?"

"Yeah. Just my best friend," I said moving to join him at the island. I picked one of the donuts on the plate and raised it to take a bite.

"The one that helped you with this place?"

I shook my head as I sank my teeth into the doughnut.
