They awaits her reply with anticipation. Even the maids at their back, stretches ear and anticipate for what she is going to say.
"What about venturing into Textile mill," says Marianne, addressing the Viscount, others laughs at what she says, but she continues , "I'll believe that we should invest in the production of silk and cotton. The demand for these materials is growing, and there is great potential for profit. We could set up our own factories here in London, and we would be able to control the quality of the products we produce. This would allow us to build a reputation for excellence, and we could command a higher price for our goods. What do you think?"
The Viscount listens to his daughter's proposal with interest, while everyone present laughs, even the maids...
"Mario. Don't you think that one is still worst. A lot of people are into that business, do you think we can still do it?" She sneers.
The Viscountess is shocks at first, when Marianne debunks her daughter's idea and think she can say something reasonable. But when she listens to what she says, she can't help but scolds herself.
So she is scared for nothing...
"Let's talk about this later." The Viscount says and they continue eating.
As Marianne eats, her father cannot help but smile. One thing about Marianne that people are grateful for, is the fact that she has a proper etiquette.
James who always eats like a rogue when the Viscount is absent, eats under the powerful stare of the Viscount, with difficulty and pressure - but at least he still get to feed his stomach- not them turning dining room to meeting room.
"I am going to embroidery class today." Beatrice says amidst their eating.
"That's good. You will make a good wife." The Viscountess says and laughs. The Viscount smiles too and nods his head, but not without looking at Marianne, to see if she is not hurt. The latter only buries her head in her food, thinking of what to do next.
"Okay. Be careful. Westminster is dangerous. Take care of yourself. The carriage will take you when you are ready." The Viscount says and Beatrice nods her head. "There is a social gathering on this weekend. We are all invited." He continues and they all nods their heads.
"That's fine, maybe Beatrice will see a single young master that will take interest in her." The Viscountess says and Beatrice blushes.
"Mother, stop." She says.
Later that day.
Marianne is set to go out and investigate about the upcoming murder case, but her father knocks.
Her father enters with a smile on his face.
"You make a compelling argument out there, daughter." the Viscount replies. "However, there are some risks to consider. Setting up our own factories would require a significant investment of capital, and it would take time to see a return on that investment. In addition, the competition in the textile industry is fierce, and we would be competing against well-established manufacturers. We would need to ensure that our products were of the highest quality and that we could market them effectively. Are you sure we are prepared to take on such a challenge?"
She considers her father's words carefully.
"I appreciate your caution, father," she says says. "But I believe that the rewards of this venture would far outweigh the risks. With careful planning and hard work, we could create a thriving business that would bring prosperity to our family for generations to come. We could change the face of the textile industry, and we could make a lasting impact on the world. Please, father, trust me and let us seize this opportunity."
The Viscount looks at her, considering his words and his ambition. Finally, he speaks,
"My daughter, you have made a bold proposal," the Viscount says. "But you have also shown me a glimpse of the future, and I am persuaded by your vision. But how do we do this? I heard it's very slow to make this silks and cottons and it takes a lot of time. What if we are unable to deliver the silks on time?"
"We can make something that makes the be done easier." She says.
"And what are they? I have not heard of that before." Her father asks.
"Instead of hand loom, we can use power loom, and also we can use Cotton gin." She says with a smile.
She cannot help but remember those people that invent these things in her past life.
'Have changed your future, sorry to you.' she thinks in her head.
"I don't think I've heard about these two things before. How do you make it?" The Viscount asks, with his curiosity peaked.
"It's simple." She says.
She remembers, the invention of the cotton gin is a turning point in the textile industry In her past life. It is invented by a man, who comes up with the idea while visiting a cotton plantation in the American South. He observes that the process of separating the cotton fibers from the seeds is slow and laborious, and he set out to find a way to improve it.
"This cotton gin is a simple but ingenious machine that used a series of hooks to comb the cotton fibers from the seeds. The machine could be operated by one person, and it made the process of separating cotton much faster and easier. And power loom too..." She cannot help but remembers the second inventor too.
The power loom is another important invention that revolutionized the textile industry. It was first developed by a lady, who wanted to improve the efficiency of weaving.
"... uses water power to drive a series of pulleys and belts, which in turn moves the loom's shuttle back and forth. This allows the weaver to work much faster, and it also means that the quality of the fabric can be more consistent." She finishes and her father opens his mouth.
"When did you learn of this?" The Viscount asks.
"I've been learning. I've not done this. But when I'm done making it, if it eventually works, I will let you know." She says and her father nods his head with a smile.
"That's good. My daughter is becoming wise." He comments. "So...you are going out?" He asks as he notices her dress.
"For investigation." She hesitates before eventually saying it out.
"About that case?....I trust you." Her father says with a smile. She smiles and cannot help but hugs him.
Is she has known in her past life, She won't have disappointed her father.
