Chapter 125 - Above and Under the Sea

On the shores of the unknown continent which was hoped to be Aria, the warriors of the Kingdom of the Malaise had already made a base on the sandy shores.

As people who had survived since the beginning of the time loop, underneath the threat that monsters provided, they learnt many odd things, making liveable structures out of the resources at hand was one of them.

Of course, one might wonder why they would need to make shelters if they were just going to revive the next month or so.

But that was the thing about humans.

They quickly felt the need to do something when there was nothing.

And thus, except for a few who quickly embraced the long perilous journey of death to catch up on much needed rest, the rest of the people learnt many things that would facilitate rest.

The amount of mental fatigue that was relieved at just having a roof above their heads was unimaginable to those exposed to the elements.

So with their combined wit and intelligence, the natives of the malaise had built an incredibly sturdy base with the materials at hand.

It resulted in several mismatched homes made out of stone, sand and wood, wood and sand being the more common majority as each one took a distinct architectural style.

But nevertheless the Warriors of the Malaise were incredibly excited.

On the sea despite being outside of the time loop it hadn't really sunk into them yet that they had been freed.

In fact doubts had arisen that they were still in the time loop, just a different one since there was nothing but ocean as far as the eye could see for well.

Miles.

But now that they were on land with materials that weren't tampered with by the malaise and the creatures there were no different from prey to the warriors of the malaise.

It was like a god given paradise to them.

Excitedly chattering to each other they clamoured together all the while the stronger ones amongst them felled trees one by one.

And even if beasts attracted by the noise arrived thinking it was some prey.

The predators would soon find that the warriors of the malaise were anything but.

Grabbing a twin tailed wolf by the gullet and slamming it down onto the sand, the shock snapped the neck of the grey maned wolf, sending it to wolf heaven.

Shocked by the quick dispatchment of their comrade, the wolves quickly tucked tails and ran.

Of course to the warriors of the malaise who primarily subsisted on rotten flesh, mushrooms, plants among other things since the malaise had basically infected everything else.

The twin tailed wolves were a delicacy that they couldn't ignore.

Quickly running into the forest, Guillian watched all of this happen atop the old man that Slade had saved.

"So what do you think old man? What do you think?"

Of course he wasn't particularly concerned at all about Slade despite standing atop one of his charges.

He was honestly more interested in the old man's opinion as his mouth continued to spew out words after words.

"Well... I would say Frenzy is the best suited for him?"

"Yeah! I agree with you! Since Frenzy is all about attacking to regain health its the best for Slade since he likes to kill everything, oh by the way did you know my mutations can cause arrows to grow barbs?"

Bringing out a scroll dubbed Barbed tips, it showed how the mutation allowed one to grow spikes on arrows without spiked tips.

By using the mana in the body to dictate its flow, such things were possible.

But as the night continued on, the earth began to shake unsettlingly.

Dark clouds gathered above shrouding the base in shadows, flames were set alight in makeshift braziers of sand.

Dancing to the shifting flames, the shadows danced happily as the figures on the sands continued to chat with each other.

And as the earth trembled, the shadows stopped their dance and started to shake as if they were afraid.

And they had the grounds to be afraid.

Birds, small critters and other nocturnal animals sensing something wrong instantly took flight.

A cacophony of screeches filled the air as the camp was filled with the sounds of birds screeching.

Beating their wings, the people on the ground could hear the sounds of wings beating against the air as they rose up to the sky.

It was unsettling to see the black mass framed by moonlight leaving the forest and moving away from the shore.

And knowing animals had senses sharper than the average human, despite not knowing the cause, the natives of the malaise grabbed their weapons.

Facing all around, an eery silence fell upon the camp.

Heartbeats beat unsettlingly against their throats as the cold night air bit at their lungs with every breath that they took.

Bodies tense, the dwellers of the malaise didn't even afford to blink away their dry eyes as they held their weapons against their chests.

Eyeing the surroundings for any signs of danger, the earth continued to shake unsettlingly and the waves shrunk back from the shores as if afraid of what was to happen.

Eyes glaring at the surroundings, soon enough, someone noticed what it was that the animals were afraid of.

"Look at the sea! It's Rising!"

Rising past the coastline at a terrifying height, the blue waves which usually only came up to about a persons waist now dwarfed the humans on the shore.

But according to the dwellers of the malaise, that wasn't the most terrifying thing about it.

Of course not, if it was a normal natural disaster that was a tsunami, they would be rather relieved.

It was what was usually carried in those tsunami waves.

And according to their incredibly high paranoia cultivated to the extreme by the malaise.

It never hurt to be careful.

And they would've been correct.

Quickly using their mana for survival , large holes were dug into the ground, displacing the crabs that lived there.

Forming natural barriers to block the water, the large tidal wave finally struck.

Nearly reaching the deck of the ship that was already fifty time human height, the ship swayed.

As the ship which had been anchored to the shore bore the brunt of the waves, something within the wave slammed into the side of the ship and tore a large chunk out of its frontal side.

AGROOOAR!!!

A loud shriek penetrated everyone's eardrums as the large shark like octopus beast suddenly appeared al the while chunks of wood were stuck within its many serrated teeth.

The Overlord of the seas had finally appeared to feast.

Many eyes glaring at the sea shore as it took advantage of this natural phenomenon, it used its tentacles to give itself limited mobility on land all the while its teeth bit onto everything possible.

Digging into the ground like a drill, its tentacles grabbed at its own shark kin that were flopping around on land and devoured them.

As the warriors of the malaise stared at such a thing coming towards them with a mixture of horror and surprise, their eyes became cold right before they instantly burst into action.

Swords flashed and arrows flew.

Slicing at the thick rubbery tentacles grasping at the loose sands, the warriors fought.

Ducking and weaving through the swinging network of tentacles, Guillian threw his harpoon and caused it to embed right into a nearby sharks skull.

Quickly ripping the rope connected to it back, the shark flew backwards all the way to their position, as the harpoon slid smoothly out of its brain.

Feeling a quiver in his legs, Guillian glanced at the old man who was holding himself and muttering underneath his breath.

Concernedly staring at his charge that he took the duty of guarding from Slade since he wasn't there, Guillian hurriedly spoke.

"Hey Old man, Are you alright?"

Ignoring him, the old man convulsed underneath him prompting him to move off all the while his arm continued to stab and reap the lives of the land sharks.

Stabbing at the sharks that had tentacles on their bodies and were propelling themselves on land, the Old man continued to tremble as his red eyes continued to get duller and duller.

That was until they suddenly got a burst of clarity.

"I'm sorry Friend Guillian, but please get away."

With a surprising burst of speed and power, the old man burst straight through the door, breaking it in the process and barrelling past a tentacle shark.

Shaking incessantly now, the old man moved out from underneath the cover of the buildings and ran towards the outside where the Overlord of the Sea was located.

Exposed to the moonlight and the monsters that were underneath it, unlike what Guillian expected to have happened.

The old man began to change.

Pausing its rampage, the intelligent eyes of the Overlord of the Sea instantly sensed danger and moved its eight eyes to stare at the old man right beneath it.

Swinging its main tentacle, the old man quickly reacted.

Jumping up, his face contorted fiercely all the while his flesh undulated like the sea, prompting changes in his body that didn't look all the nice at all.

With a guttural voice leaving from the depths of his lungs the old man shouted to the overlord of the seas.

And with his words, gigantic skeletal hands burst out of his back all the while space tore apart to reveal a skull that swallowed the old man into a pocket stomach.

It was Skeletron, the Cursed Guardian of the Dungeon.
