I woke up oddly motivated. It's like my life now had meaning and that I had a reason to keep going. I immediately thought of those horrible children from my village, they will never know what it's like to have status or to have plentiful food and people waiting on them hand and foot. I had royal blood in my veins, I was special and above them. They ridiculed me and beat me day in and day out, they told me that nobody would care if I died and that it would be better if I did. But now I am on top.
The three maids came in again, this time though they appeared to be more humble, I guess they heard the news.
"Your majesty, it's good to see that you are up. There is much for you to do today so we will begin getting you ready." Liza said.
"Alright." I sighed getting out of bed.
The process of getting ready in the morning takes hours. They beginning by scrubbing me down and washing my hair for thirty minutes, then they allow me to "soak" in a rose scented tub for another thirty minutes while they prepare my outfit. Upon getting out, I am heavily moisturized and stuffed into an elegant gown of their choosing. Today it was a short lavender dress with diamonds sewn around the body; it was accompanied by a heart shaped silver necklace and dangling crystal earrings. My hair was braided into two long braids with white ribbons tied at both the tops and bottoms. They went for a light natural looking makeup style, so I assumed today would be a rather relaxed day.
"Today you will meet with your history instructor." Alicia said. "His name is Duke Espen, he has been a royal tutor for the family for generations and is a well respected noble within the community."
"I see, so what you're saying is that I should get on his good side." I noticed.
"You are smarter than you look." She said.
I know that not everyone would be pleased with me joining the royal family. After all it's another person to kiss up to, and nobody wants that. Even the princes, princesses, and king are on edge because of my arrival. So it's important that I gain connection to those of high standing in case things don't end well for me. I'm surprised that Alicia is suddenly helping me, maybe the queen had something to do with that.
Once I finished getting ready I was lead to a library to meet with Duke Espen.
"Greetings young lady, I am Duke Leroy Espen." He bowed grabbing my hand and slightly pressing his lips on it.
"It is a pleasure to meet you Duke." I curtsied in response.
"Well it seems as though you have some manners." He said.
"I still have lots to learn." I said modestly.
"Yes well, today is about history not etiquette. Let's begin shall we."
I spent three hours in that room learning about the foundation of our country the kingdom of Aldmoor which sits on the west side of the continent of Reiti. On Reiti there are a total of five kingdoms; Aldmoor, Enia, Kular, Narva, and Derfir.
Aldmoor and Enia are in a mutually beneficial treaty due to the marriage of Queen Lenora and King Hugo, we have also been trading heavily with the kingdom of Kular. For the past twenty years the kingdoms of Narva and Derfir have been disputing due to land and resources that are near both areas. Apparently Derfir has been requesting the kingdom of Enia to support them but haven't gotten much of a response. While Narva and Kular have a military treaty that automatically connects them. Should war break out, without the assistance of Enia Derfir will lose most of their land, citizens, and resources at the hands of Narva and Kular.
Mother and queen Lenora are from the kingdom of Enia. As the princess of a neighboring kingdom it seems odd that the queen has as much authority as she does. In normal cases the queen doesn't make any decisions without the okay of the king but here the queen has as much of a say in affairs as the king does. It's almost as if the king married into her family and not vice versa. It also doesn't explain why both the queen and mother came here together, if anything mother would have been married off to another king in a neighboring kingdom or she would have been married to a high ranking official. Instead she married my father and lived the rest of her life in poverty. The Queen must've known that mother was in the same country so why didn't she make a move sooner?
Why wait until mothers death and father's disappearance?
