The freezing riverwater stabbed their flesh as Rhett helped Neva swim up to the shore.
Neva coughed water out, her body laid flat on her stomach over the surface.
Neva gasped deeply, immediately turning her dizzy head to look at Rhett. She panicked and rianed her eyes over his body.
"Rhett are you hurt?" She got up to her knees and grabbed his arm.
Rhett breathed deeply, sliding up through the dark wet strands over his face. He looked at her, swallowing. "I'm fine." He nodded. "Are you?" Rhett scanned her body. "I am." Neva sucked in a sharp air, her lips trembling.
Rhett immediately took her into his arms.
"God Neva." He caressed her head.
Neva whimpered, wrapping her arms around his neck.
She would have died had something happened to him.
"They escaped!!" Head popped out the deep river, cracking their calmness.
"Boss!! We can't find them!!"
"There!!" Another one of the men directly pointed at them. "On the shore!!"
"Get them!!" Zev shouted, starting to swim towards them.
Neva panicked and saw Rhett reaching the gun from the ankle holster. He smiled up at her as he lowered down the lifted edge of his blue jeans.
"We have to go." He said, helping her up.
Neva felt like crying, her head hammering in her ears, head pierced with the pain of water being inhaled through her nose. Her body surprised her that she could even move with her body frosting from cold and the wet and heavy clothes sticking to her skin.
Running through the woods, they met the main street they passed previously.
His bike was on the cliff. They could get to the any moment now.
Starting through the east of the street, their steps were immediately seized by a roaring noise of an engine.
Neva's heart skipped a beat.
A red Aston Martin rumbled towards them.
Rhett moved them to the side. The howling wing passing by made Neva close her eyes and shiver.
The Aston Martin halted n a distance. Then reveresed.
Gliding in front of them.
Rhett frowned, his expressions murky.
Rhett clenched his grip on the gun, the previous firearm astray somewhere within the river.
Rhett slid Neva in behind him as the window rolled down.
His orbs faintly glinted at the glimpse of the familiar faces.
"Boss we finally found you!" Ace exclaimed, wearing a bright expression, his voice blaring and excited.
Neva furrowed her eyebrows at the foreign man.
Rhett breathed a sigh of gladness. The distant voices of Ishmael's men nearing, he opened the passenger's door.
"Get in Neva." Rhett said, and Neva obliged.
He entered after and closed the door.
"Go." He said, and Hunter answered with a roar of the accelerating car.
"Nice to meet you Neva Mae. Call me Sky" The only woman said, the corners of her lips lifted up, offering a hand to her.
Neva still attempting to get her breathing in control glanced at her.
Sky had a laptop on her lap, she wore her blonde hair to a high pony tail revealing her white earpieces.
Neva shook their hands. "Nice to meet you too, Sky." She smiled back at her.
Then she turned, feeling Rhett reach for the heavy soaked jacket sticking to Neva's skin.
"What are you doing?" Neva frowned.
"Helping you get rid of extra cold and weight." He replied, zipping down the jacket. Neva let him, aiding him to peel it off of her.
"Hand her a jacket or something." Rhett snapped at the three people.
"Oh," Sky attempted to remove her jacket.
"You don't have to." Neva waved her hands.
"Mine's thicker. Here. And you can call me Ace." Ace smiled at her, handing his own jacket to her
Neva hesitated and glanced up at a nonchalant Rhett.
"Wear it." He snatched the jacket from Ace and layered her body with it.
If any other day, he would have never let a man's scent near her, nonetheless Neva was frozen from cold.
"Aren't you cold too?" Neva inquired.
"A bit." Rhett responded.
"Hunter, give me your hoodie."
Hunter taking caution slithered the car to a stop on the side. He pulled off his hoodie and gave it to Rhett.
Rhett took it and Hunter sped off the car again.
The rest of the way was rather peaceful without Raka and his men hovering over them.
Rhett glanced at their entertwined hands, looking up at her, he saw her eyes droopy, starting to drift off to sleep.
He brought his arm around her, making her thread their eyes.
He smiled down at her, and she mirrored a sweet smile.
She placed her head on his chest, leaning into his heat, as he thrusted her body further towards him.
And the three forgotten the third–wheelers inside the Aston Martin pretended to have not seen their romantic gestures. They couldn't still believe how jarringly different their leader could be around this woman.
"Thank you for coming." Rhett broke the silence.
"Sky here gets all the credit Boss." Ace replied, glancing at him through the rear–biew mirror.
"I appreciate it." Rhett said.
"It's fine." Sky returned coolly.
"By the way we passed by Raka's backup team on our way here." She informed.
Rhett silently gazed down at Neva, sleeping serenely.
He felt a sharp pang in his heart. If they hadn't come, Neva would have probably went adrift from him.
He sucked in a breath, painful of the thoughts of 'What if's?'
Nevertheless, he reassured himself.
Nothing matters anymore, because his Angel was with him, close to him.
He would not let it happen again.
Rhett tightened his embrace around her, veiling his eyes.
She was safe in his arms.
