Chapter 22 - Going to Kingdom of Brinellia

Comfy.

Iris never thought she would describe her morning that way. This was the first time she woke up in a good condition. She stretched her arms and legs.

"That was good," she said

"Good to hear," a voice said beside her.

Iris looked slowly at the other side of the bed and was surprised to see echeron beside her.

Iris covered her body with a blanket.

"Wh-what are you doing in my bed?" Iris stutter.

Echeron smiled. "Well! You told me not to leave last night."

Iris did not remember anything from last night. She looked at Echeron and thought really hard if anything unusual happened the previous night or if she had done something crazy.

She remembered sleeping early because she was scared of ghosts and he met a weird person.

Thinking hard, she remembered she had a nightmare about her past. Somebody woke her up and hugged her to calm her down, and She cried on his chest.

Iris realised that she was hugging the Duke and did not let him go.

She felt embarrassed. Iris covers his face with a pillow, trying to hide her red face.

"You remember now!?" Echeron teased her

Iris remains hidden in the pillow, but she nods in response.

The Duke laughed. He leaves Iris's bed and fixes his suit.

Iris peeked when she felt echeron leave the bed. She saw that he had yet to change his clothes since last night. Some tear stains can be seen on his chest.

Echeron caught her staring. Which made him smile.

"Get up, we're going to have breakfast," Echeron said

Iris still didnt move.

"I'll wait for you in the dining room," Echeron told her and left her room.

Two of Iris's personal servants enter her room.

"My Lady, please get up," Lilith said politely.

Iris uncovered herself and got up from her bed. Her servants started to assist her in taking off her night clothes.

Iris wasn't embarrassed by this anymore since it's already been a few days since they started doing this. At first, she was embarrassed, but they explained to her that this was normal for them to do.

They prepared her bath with warm water and petals on the tub; Lilith washed Iris's hair while Arza cleaned her nails.

After her bath, they went to her wardrobe.

"What should I wear?" Iris wondered, looking at her clothes.

"Lady, the Duke said you have to wear this today," Arza said

Arza showed a simple, long white gown. It has a very long sleeve that makes it look like a cape, and it has diamonds on the edges.

It has matching white pearl earrings, a bracelet and a necklace. For the hair ornament, the Duke prepared a pearl head crown.

"Are these pearls?" Iris asked.

"Yes, They are rare pearls that can be only found near the oceans in the south", Arza answered.

Iris wondered why Echeron made her wear these extravagant clothes and accessories.

She made her way to the dining room. Echeron is already sitting on the other side of the table and already eating breakfast.

Iris never thought the Duke would ask her for breakfast since she always ate alone. And the Duke never invited her to eat.

The servant assisted her to sit on the opposite side.

Iris wondered how they could have a conversation since the table was very long and a flower was blocking their faces.

The servants started to place food on her side of the table. They serve two slices of French toast with two eggs, fries, a chicken applewood sausage, and bacon with a cup of tea for drinks. For dessert, they serve an apple pie.

This was the first time Iris saw a lot of food on her table since she usually ate in her room and only had pancakes for breakfast.

Iris looked at the Duke's plate to see what he was having. She saw a lump of unusual red meat that looked like it was not fully cooked since there was blood on it.

"What kind of food is that?" Iris suddenly asked.

"A steak," the duke answer

"want some?"

"No, thank you," Iris. Rejected his offer.

Even though it looked like the Duke was enjoying his food, Iris felt disgusted with the food that looked like it was raw. She even cooked the dragon she killed.

They ate in silence, and after a while, when they finished. The servants clean their table. Iris wipes her mouth. The Duke waved his hand, and the servant started to leave the dining room.

"Iris," Echeron said

Iris looked at the Duke. "Yes, Duke?"

"We are going to Brinellia today," the Duke said

"Brinella? What do you mean?" Iris wondered.

Iris doesn't even know the kingdom's name right now, and Echeron wants to take her to another kingdom.

"Yes, Brinellia, the kingdom from the south," Echeron said

Iris touches her necklace, and then she remembers what Arza said to her.

"you mean the one who made this necklace? The one who is near the ocean?" Iris asked.

"yes, and we are leaving today," echeron said

Iris was excited to go to the ocean since this was her first time seeing the sea in real life, not only in books and paintings she had seen in the past. But this was so sudden she didnt even pack yet.

"Don't worry, I packed in advance", Echeron assured her.

Iris didnt argue anymore since the Duke assured her that he had arranged everything and she trusted him. She was so excited that she rushed to the carriage, leaving echeron behind her.

"Hurry!!" Iris shouted at echeron.

The Duke rode the carriage, and they started travelling together.

"How long to Brinellia?" Iris asked

"About two weeks if we travel by carriage," echeron answered.

"What's so long," Iris said slily, irritated.

"Don't worry, we will be there by the end of the day," echeron guaranteed her.

They arrived in one building that was so big that one carriage could fit inside.

The carriage entered the building. Inside was an open space, and there was some scribbling and patterns on the floor.

"What is that?" Iris asked curiously

"teleportation," echeron answered.

"huh? But you said magic was already gone?" she asked.

"yes, but humans developed magical tools and developed a way to teleport," echeron answered.

"Magical tools and magic different?" Iris asked again

Echeron was troubled because Iris had so many questions. She handed her a book that was about magical tools since he was too Lazy to explain anything to her.

"What this?" Iris asked

"just read it," he commanded.
