Iris wasn't really in the mood to read.
One hour after leaving the Duke's mansion, Duke Echeron ignored her and looked through the document in his hands.
After entering the teleportation circles, The person in charge activated a switch that gave energy to the large crystal above.
The large stone glows and gives an electricity-like wave that shoots through the small diamonds that were buried in the corners of the circle.
Iris could only see for about one second as the light glowed bright.
Iris closed her eyes to avoid the blinding light. Iris slowly opened her eyes and saw they were in a different building.
"where are we?" Iris asked
Echeron looked up and glanced around. "In the outskirts of Brinellia."
"We are in Brinellia already?" She questioned
"Not yet. In a few more hours, we will arrive in their city," Echeron answered still looking at the documents on his hands.
The carriage exited the building. Iris peeked outside on her side of the window and saw two mountains on each side, but in the middle was a glimpse of the ocean that could be seen from afar.
The view from the distance made Iris excited to see the ocean up close. As the ocean water shimmers from the sun's light, Iris can't nearly cry.
It's been two hours since they left the outskirts of Brinellia, but they have yet to arrive in the city.
They had to take a detour when the bridge that was connected to the other side was cut off.
Going around seemed to be the only way to Brinellia. That means going through the forest in the mountains.
"WHY THIS HAS TO HAPPENED!?" Iris ground in frustration
"They should have built the Teleportation device in the city, not in a very Far area," Iris complained.
"If you read the book I gave you, you can have all the answers you're looking for," Echeron said with his eyes shut on his documents.
Iris looked at the book, wondering if she should read it or not. She thought reading inside the carriage sometimes made her dizzy and want to vomit. But Echeron was busy right now looking at some documents, and Iris didn't want to bother him.
Iris opened the book and started reading.
The book was about How Humans develop Magical Tools Using The shard of the legendary sword. It says the sword was broken after the Great War, and the pieces were distributed to the nobles who greatly contributed to the war.
The royals Have the big piece of the sword hidden away somewhere in the palace walls.
The General of the knight developed a way to extract and distribute the power of the legendary sword into the normal sword, and using mana, they could active and imitate some power of the legendary sword, and people started to call them "sword masters" because only a few people can master this power.
The magicians that lost their powers because the gods left and took back their blessing. They used the power of the legendary sword to make and produce magic tools, so even when the magic was gone, people could still use some magic, but it was also limited to the people because only the people with mana could use the magic tools.
Iris flips the pages.
The page contains how magical tools were made and how to use them. She went and looked for the teleportation device.
It's stated that the teleportation device was made using the shard of the legendary sword, and they put it inside the magic crystal that magicians used when magic was still around because these crystals can store tremendous amounts of magic.
Teleportation devices can only teleport at a distinct distance because the magic was not enough to support long-range teleportation.
The other reason was to avoid enemies entering the kingdom using a teleportation device. So they installed it far from the cities. Avoiding enemies sneaking inside the kingdom.
Iris now understood and had answered all her questions.
Iris didn't realize she had fallen asleep.
It was a warm, loud night. Iris woke up from the sound of metal clanking like someone was fighting outside.
Iris got up from the seat she was lying down. As she rubbed her eyes, an arrow passed in front of her. She jumped in, surprised.
"Ahhh," Iris shouted.
She looked outside. Echeron knights and bandits were fighting. Echeron was also nowhere to be seen.
The woods were dark, only the light from the moon was popping out and giving light.
Far away, the bullhorn blew. Iris heard whoops and yells in the woods. The clanking of the metals became louder and louder. People fighting. People dying.
This was the first time Iris saw a lot of human blood. Another arrow shot from afar through his carriage.
Iris can't move. She was stunned and frozen.
Somebody pulled Iris back, which prevented the arrow from striking through her face. Iris looked back to see who it was. It was echeron drenched in blood.
"What are you doing?" echeron blurted.
Iris can't speak. She was traumatized by what was happening in front of her.
"I--I" she stutter
"get a hold of yourself," Echeron said, pulling her out of the carriage.
"We are being Rob. My knight almost finished most of them, but they keep on coming," Echeron said
One bandit rushed towards Echeron with a mace in his hand. But before he could come near, Echeron Threw his sword that struck his heart.
Echeron removed his sword from the man's chest, still dragging Iris in his every move.
Echeron brought Iris away from the fight and hid her in the big tree.
"stay here," Echeron said and ran back to the fight.
Iris nodded, still not saying anything, just looking at the knights fighting the bandits and killing them mercilessly.
Iris looked in Echeron's direction, who was fighting the bandit's leader. She saw from the side that someone was sneaking behind the Duke, preparing to stab him.
Without thinking, Iris rushed in the duke's direction.
"NOOOOO!" she shouted.
Echeron looked back and saw Iris running toward him, then pushing him out and taking the blow from the sword that was about to stab him. Echeron immediately cut the man's neck and rushed towards Iris.
Iris felt a burning pain running through her stomach, and blood flowed from her mouth. She touched his stomach and saw a lot of blood from her hand.
Everything went blurry in Iris's eyes. She heard echeron saying something she could not understand, but it was too late. She lost consciousness and dropped to the ground.
