Chapter 1 - Prologue

The female immortal fell down from the Lunar Heaven after being pushed by her jealous comrades-in-arms for her promotion to heavenly captain. They deliberately plotted a lie about the promotion taking place at Rebirth's Edge, using that excuse to push her off the cliff where an immortal would have to undergo a mortal experience until they died.

Haifeng serenely closed her eyes, feeling nothing but peace in this situation. To her, she never thought about what she wanted to do for her future as she was born a lowly phoenix who was only taught to become a heavenly soldier for the Lunar Bird Clan. Perhaps experiencing a mortal life would be a breath of fresh air for the best and she could learn a thing or two from mortals' daily lives.

Her only regret was that she would not be able to remember her three closest friends until she returned to the Lunar Heaven.

As she fell closer to the realm below, a hand gripped her own tightly. Haifeng opened her eyes to see a young boy with white hair and ocean blue eyes, which resembled a dragon's as it glowed. He had a smile on his face, looking relieved to see her.

"Sister, I found you. Let's go home."

Sister? Did she ever have a brother? Many questions arose yet her mouth moved by itself.

"You finally found me, brother."

Haifeng's body began to glow in a pale gold light, scattering into sparkles that only left a flaming red orb behind. The boy cupped her soul and brought her close to his chest as his appearance fades into a blue shooting star, passing through a light barrier and fell down towards a big city. The presence of the shooting star was felt by the Heavenly Lunar Emperor, who expressed concern for it.

"The child of the Solar Heaven and the child of our Lunar Heaven have yet to awaken, but I would like to see how they can defy the path arranged for them. . ."

. . .

Haifeng opened her eyes to see a stone bridge leading to a tranquil lake with a flowery pavilion in the center of it all. The night blue, black and and purple sky were lit with many shining stars as the bright, giant, luminous moon adorned the horizon close to its reflection on the surface of the water.

She took a step forward, walking along the bridge to the pavilion while staring at the scenery and the reflection of herself in the water's surface. Long black hair and brown eyes were the undesirable traits of a lowborn phoenix of the Lunar Bird Clan, and those born with these appearance traits were sought to be raised as heavenly soldiers for the clan, some even having the opportunity to become soldiers of the Lunar Heaven themselves.

But now, this scenery all around her have revived previous memories before she was 'Haifeng', where she was the phoenix twin sister of her dragon twin brother, Nios. Both who were born as twins with different soul forms in their mother's belly yet there was only one body for them to be born into. So she was the twin who gave up the opportunity and let her brother take the body while she chose to stay within their shared spiritual consciousness, often being able to project herself outside of it as a spirit that only he could see.

For a time when Nios was born, she watched on as their mother doted on him and taught him to harness his soul powers to have a kind heart while being brave to become strong so he can protect the ones he loves. These lessons were imprinted within her heart just like his.

Then one day within the spiritual consciousness, she told Nios that she was going to leave and reincarnate because she wanted to experience life herself that she couldn't have within their situation. She reassured her twin that if time comes to shove, he'll appear to bring her soul back to where he is.

And that's when she reincarnated as Haifeng in the Lunar Heaven. The possibility of being born in one of the two Heavens was unexpected for a mortal, even for an immortal with a mortal soul at the time. But as she had no memories of the previous, she lived on being looked down by the superior birds of the Lunar Bird Clan as a heavenly soldier.

Until that day where she was pushed off the cliff by her own comrades, where she reunited with Nios for the first time in years.

As Haifeng reached the pavilion, she saw the familiar boy of teenage years sitting on the chair and smiling at her. His short white hair and piercing ocean blue eyes have gone quite the transformation with his baby face than the last time she saw him as a young child.

"Sister, you're here. Come, come! You haven't had osmanthus wine brewed by me for a long time, so I thought I'd brew some for your safe return." Nios says, pouring the wine into a jade cup for her. Haifeng sits down across from him, taking the cup to smell the floral aroma by waving it in a circle. "Welcome back home, sister."

"Nios, first of all, you've improved on brewing osmanthus wine. It smells wonderfully full of vitality. Second, thank you. Third, I'm so glad that the Lunar Heaven has the same time flow as the mortal realm because I think I would've died laughing seeing you as an old man with a shiny bald head and straw hat-shaped eyebrows who always breaks his back doing those breathing poses."

Nios immediately frowns in disbelief while Haifeng drank the wine with a grin.

"You come back home and the third thing you say is that? What's with the shiny baldness and straw hat eyebrows? Did you see someone like that? The breathing poses are taught by our mother, so you're INSULTING her. And how did you even get to live in the Lunar Heaven anyway? I don't think mortals are ever allowed to be born in heaven if they're not divine souls."

"SHE doesn't even know I exist yet! But it's true when I say the breathing techniques are weird to look at from a third person perspective." She argued back before answering the last half. "Yeah, it's actually impossible." Haifeng nods, taking the wine jug to pour herself another cup. "There were other mortals who were of Demi-Immortal Grade taking tribulations to get to Divine Grade so they can undergo a rebirth in fire trial. It's to reassemble their body from the nerves using the energy of the phoenix fire while in extremely burning pain until they succeeded in being reborn with a new body and are now able to enter either one of the two Heavens."

She drank her third cup as she continued, "As for me, my soul was registered as Primordial Grade once I had been found wandering in the Lunar Heaven's tribulation pillars. I would've been taken back to the mortal realm but since I was a phoenix with a flaming soul shining so bright, I was brought to the Lunar Bird Clan to be reborn from an egg and start my life there. . .but it wasn't what I found to be a good life."

The wine jug was then picked up and the rest of the wine poured into her mouth from the tip as Nios watched on in shock. When she was done, she wiped her mouth with her hand and looked at him in confusion. "What?"

"You have become so unruly. Where is my graceful sister from before? What have you done to her?" The brother twin looked away, wiping a tear from his eye as Haifeng gave him a deadpan stare.

"I AM still your sister. I can't be sweet as honey all the time, I need to be merciless with you too so you don't end up becoming a spoiled brat, mommy's boy~" She teased holding her laughter.

Nios was disgusted. "Ew, I don't want to be called that from my own sister. Merciless or not, you picked up some bad habits in your Lunar Heaven life for real. Well, I do have all day to hear about it since I'm in a coma, so shoot."

"Alright where do I be- wait COMA?! YOU'RE IN A COMA?!" Haifeng stood up with her hands slapped on the table.

"That's right, I'm in a coma. I can listen to your long story while I'm in one right?"

"How can you nonchalantly say that you're in a coma?! What the fuck happened?!"

"Language! And first off, start with yours and then I'll tell you mine, okay?"

Haifeng dropped her jaw for a second before putting it back up and shaking her head as she sat back down. "Fine fine, it really doesn't get crazier than this. Anyway, it started with me breaking out of my eggshell in front of the Lunar Bird Clan Head. . ."

. . .

In the Lunar Heaven where endless night happens, a hard-boiled egg was about to break itself open in the Lunar Bird Clan where all birds are born and serve the Heavenly Phoenix bloodline. That is where the phoenix twin, named Haifeng, began her life after giving up her birth from her old one.
