The towers of destruction were already filled with millions of monster cores in them and each monster core was filled with energy as it needed energy to create the flesh and bones of the monsters.
The mana crystal was simply a solid form of the mana that the tower accumulated and when the tower broke, Larcen was able to get his hands on it. Also, corrupted mana crystals were a very degraded form of mana crystals and that was one of the main reasons why he got so many with just one SP.
