Inside the spacious apartment, the two young people sat opposite each other while they gnawed on their meal.
After having some bite, the young lady lifted a gaze at Noah.
"It tastes great, as usual." She raised an ok sign. "Perfect! Wish I could have enough, but so sad I can't." She pushed her pouted lips to the side which made her look adorable like a little child.
Seeing how childish the young lady appeared probably because of the pout, Noah couldn't help but chuckle.
"Scared to gain weight?" Noah questioned Jokily.
"Yes. You know I have to watch my weight always because of my career." Scarlett answered with a smile.
"I know about it. That's why I made your favorite so you can have them once in a while," Noah said while he smiled cutely back at Scarlett.
"You are the only one who understands me better. Thank you." Scarlett said in gratitude.
Just as Scarlett, her cell phone on the table beeped. She picked up her cell phone and saw a message that came in. Going through the brief message, a hideous smile appeared on Scarlett's face, as if she wanted to hide that attractive smile from the young man.
However, Noah was quick to see the adorable smile before it disappeared. He snorted with a sad grin that rested on his lips.
"Are you back for good, or have you returned for something else?" Noah asked softly but it sounded anxious.
When Scarlett heard him, she straightened her facial expression and directed a stare at him.
"I'm not sure yet. I guess I'm back because of the movie since am needed to be in the teaser." Scarlett lied.
"You're gonna meet him soon, so don't stress yourself about it," Noah said in a subconscious state.
Growing up in a comfortable middle-class household, Noah Walker always could explore his interests and pursue his dreams. Fortunately, he saw himself through college with his DBA degree in his hands, which opened up many opportunities for him in the corporate world but he chose a carefree life.
On the other hand, Scarlet Lucian is one of the top models and actresses in the entertainment industry. With her striking beauty, exceptional talent, and undeniable charisma, Scarlet rose to fame, becoming a household name at a remarkably young age. Her talent and dedication have propelled her to the top of the industry, securing her roles in blockbuster movies and gracing the covers of prestigious fashion magazines.
His gaze remained fixed on Scarlet's bright eyes. As their eyes locked in a silent battle of understanding, Noah could feel his heart pounding against his chest, its rhythm betraying the storm of emotions swirling within him.
Their unspoken connection, born from years of shared memories and unspoken understanding, allowed Noah to see beyond the carefully crafted mask Scarlett wore.
They both stared into each other's eyes for a long time as if trying to see through each other's hearts, but in the end, Scarlett could not see through Noah as she broke the stare first.
With a gloomy face lowered, Scarlett questioned. "Have you met with him since you returned?"
She raised her gaze again at him while she waited for an answer, hoping not to upset Noah again.
Noah gulped down first, as he found it difficult to speak. It took Noah some time to speak up finally.
"No. Do you think I should bring myself to him?" A snigger escaped his mouth when a sly smile rested on his lips.
Scarlett noticed that grimace expression on Noah's face. His eyes were slightly red and moist, like one in pain. Scarlett realized that she had asked something that shouldn't have been mentioned.
Things should remain where they were, right? Scarlett thought to herself.
Just as Scarlett was observing his expression, she noticed the young man had stood up and taken some steps away from the dining table.
Scarlett jerked up with a frightened heart as if she watched Noah go through that door. She would eventually lose something precious.
Scarlett was hesitant for a while and then she finally yelled with a scant breath. "Noah wait!"
When Noah heard that cracked voice calling for his name, he halted in his tracks and heard her asking.
"Are you still upset? I think you should let go by now."
Noah's jaw and his fist clenched tightly. Suddenly he straightened his facial expression and released his clenched fist before turning around to Scarlett with a sweet smile curled on his lips.
Noah uttered no word, but only smiled sweetly at her. After a short time, he turned around, opened the door, and stepped out of the apartment. He shut the door behind him.
Scarlett was left alone in the spacious apartment. She slumped helplessly on the dining seat, which had her bite on the corner of her red lips in resentment.
Kaylee got to the restaurant on time, thanks to her considerate daughter. Probably she was trying everything possible not to fall into Vivian's bad side. She had noticed Vivian acting strange lately around her as if she was an alien needed to be at watch. Moreover, she couldn't predict what was going through the young lady's mind.
Kaylee was busy with the dishes while her ears were somewhere else, listening to the Boss scolding the worker at the end of the kitchen.
"Why didn't you tell me we have run out of vegetables?! How could such a thing happen?! We could have ordered many from the vendor?! And now we can't get the vegetables even though we placed an order!" Vivian said angrily, like someone who was about to explode at any moment.
The young man who was being scolded shivered like a terrified kitten.
"I'm sorry Ma'am that I didn't check the store. I'm sorry." The chef apologizes with his head hung down and his hands clasped together in fear.
The chef took a glance at the furry Vivian and then buried his head again before suggesting. "I will rush to the market right now and get them. I can do it."
Upon hearing him, Vivian got irritated the more.
"How would you be able to buy them when you always forget things and hardly keep record of the store?" She clicked her tongue in frustration. "Vegetables are the essential food needed in the kitchen to make a meal. What kind of senior chef are you? I should have fired you a long time ago." Vivian glared at him.
"I'm sorry ma'am, for failing you again. I-I'm so sorry." The young man said apologetically.
Vivian gave him a deadly stare as he couldn't lift his head in the passing minutes. She looked around and noticed other chefs were busy cooking while the other was washing the used plates.
"Who would go with you?" Vivian questioned when a frustrated sigh left her nostrils and lips for the second time.
In the short quiet-scary atmosphere, Mary walked into the kitchen with a glass of cups, moving to Kaylee. Mary got to Kaylee and exchanged pleasantries with her as they grinned at each other. Mary carefully put down the tray of cups on the sink.
Vivian noticed Mary appeared hesitant to leave the kitchen and saw how the two young ladies were smiling at each other as though they had known each other very well in these past days.
"Hey, you two over there." Vivian called.
When Mary heard the scary voice behind her, her shoulder trembled with a skipped heart, but Kaylee seemed not to be threatened by Vivian's voice.
Obviously, it was only Kaylee and Mary together so they both turned around to the person.
Vivian gestured her hand signaling the two young ladies to come.
Mary quickly moved away from her spot not to make the angry lady upset the more while Kaylee followed behind.
"You two should get changed and get some vegetables needed for two days before the vendors bring some fresh vegetables." Vivian said sternly.
"Yes ma'am."
Although it was still morning and the restaurant was yet to be crowded in the evening, so her colleague at the bar could attend to the few customers alone, Mary had no excuse to tell. However, Kaylee couldn't object, despite the fact that she was the only one washing so many dishes.
Kaylee stared at Vivian and could only nod in obedience.
Vivian shifted her flaming gaze at the young man. "You better make a proper list and give it to them right away else I'm going to cut off one of your hands and used it in place of the vegetables."
After Vivian finished speaking, she contemptuously walked out of the kitchen.
When the chef was done listing the necessary vegetables, he gave the list to young ladies. Outside the restaurant, Mary noticed Kaylee wasn't only staring at the list in her hands but she couldn't stop staring confusingly at the key in her hands instead.
"What's wrong can't you drive?" Mary questioned.
Kaylee lifted her eyes at Mary with a slight twisted facial expression. She shook her head helplessly without saying a word.
Observing what Kaylee's expression meant, Mary hastily said. "Then I should drive. We can't delay any longer."
Kaylee wasn't sure about Mary's sudden reply. She could read that 'let me give a try' expression on Mary's face.
"Are you sure about this? Do you have a driver license?" Kaylee questioned, blinking blankly at Mary.
