Just as Kaylee was waiting, She shifted her gaze at the spacious astonished restaurant occupied by influential people that had well-dressed servers to deliver their various meal ordered.
Kaylee turned around when she heard the voice beside her. She didn't glance away from the young lady who was short and somewhat fat as she seemed to be in her early thirties.
"How can I help you?" The manager asked.
Kaylee bowed slightly and then raised her head as she greeted. "Good Morning Ma'am. I saw the placard outside that said this beautiful restaurant need some workers. It will be my pleasure if I'm allowed to work here." Kaylee put on a pretty smile that made her look adorable.
Kaylee couldn't stop praying in her heart for this smiling charm to work on the stern woman.
The manager was mute while scanning at the Kaylee who looked fragile like someone sick.
"How fitted are you?" The manager questioned as her eyes ran up from Kaylee's head and down to her feet.
"I'm always fitted, Ma'am." Kaylee raised a strong fist. "See, I always exercise." Kaylee said with bright eyes.
The manager wasn't sure if the young lady was lying or not but her appearance was saying otherwise.
"Alright, You are hired. The Boss is out of the city and will be back after a few days but I tell you don't do anything stupid and don't be clumsy here."
"You don't need to worry Ma'am I'm not a stupid or clumsy type but I will try to be extra careful not to be stupid or clumsy," Kaylee said reassuringly with a slight bow.
Kaylee had walked for a long time searching for a part-time job and she wouldn't dare to cause any misfortune for herself after getting this job that seemed to offer a good salary at least a little bit high to her expectations.
The manager rolled her eyes away from Kaylee's view and turned to the young lady at the bar. "Take her to the kitchen and show her what to do." She ordered.
"Yes ma'am." Answered the young lady. She turned to Kaylee and then said. "Please follow me."
Kaylee smiled politely at the young lady first. She adjusted her handbag handle on her shoulder before moving from her spot.
Just as Kaylee was about to walk past the manager when she heard her question which had Kaylee stopped in her tracks.
"By the way what's your name?"
Kaylee turned around to the manager and answered formally. "I'm Kaylee Ashton, Ma'am."
When she heard Kaylee still addressing her with 'Ma'am' she chuckled awkwardly and then stopped chuckling as a sudden straight expression rested on her face. "Ma'am sounds funny? Looking at you, I appear younger, or perhaps we are mates. Anyways call me Vivian so keep the formalities."
Kaylee smiled and nodded without uttering a word.
"You may start working now." Vivian gestures a wave signaling Kaylee to leave.
Kaylee turned around and followed the young lady to the kitchen.
"Why does she look so pretty? Do I look old now to be called Ma'am?" Vivian muttered, blinking blankly as her hands cupped her full cheeks.
Vivian doesn't like others calling her Ma'am and she felt inferior when she saw the flawless skin of Kaylee and slim fitted she was.
Although, Kaylee complexion was pale and somehow rough despite that she still appears beautiful with the body structure of a model.
Thinking about Kaylee's appearance once again, Vivian felt jealous.
"Hey, Vivian."
Vivian moved her gaze to the entrance and saw a young man who was walking into the restaurant with a broad smile on his lips while his teeth showed off.
Is he really stupid to call her name in a crowded place like this? Vivian thought as a frown settled on her face.
Seeing the young man Vivian wanted to become invisible from the young man's sight. Her eyebrows creased the more as she nonchalantly questioned the young man who just approached her.
"What is it, Peter? So what brings you here? You didn't come to order right?"
The smile on the young man called Peter slowly dissipated on his face when he noticed the cold shoulder Vivian just displayed now.
Peter raised his hand to adjust the square frame eyeglasses on his eyes which rested on his nose. "Uhh I was driving to the office so I thought to stop by and say Hello." Peter answered.
Peter stared at Vivian and saw the unconcerned expression which was visible clearly on his face. He looked around and saw how filled the restaurant was with customers.
"Where is your Boss?" Peter questioned while scorching his eyes around.
"He's not in town. Is there a problem?" Vivian answered coldly.
Peter chuckled foolishly before saying. "No, it is been a long I dropped by and saw him."
Vivian uttered no word, knowing the young man wasn't here to drop by or wanted to see her Boss rather babbling nonsense.
Peter's eyes swept on the customers and they finally landed on Vivian. He noticed that her gaze was still fixed somewhere else as she didn't mind to spare him a glance.
"I see things are going well in here. Alright, I should get going before my Boss's flight arrives." Peter acted to leave with expectation to be stopped by Vivian.
Just as he expected, Vivian stopped him as she held a gentle grip on his arm.
"Why are you leaving so early?" Vivian questioned softly.
Peter turned around and saw Vivian smiling friendly at him.
"You can't leave just like that. Why don't you hold on for a minute? I will be right back." Vivian persuaded.
"Sure I will wait." Peter nodded as his lips twirled up in a smile.
Vivian let go of the grip and rushed into the kitchen. It was a few minutes later, that Vivian rushed out while grinning happily.
Vivian stretched out a well-packed meal to Peter respectfully with both hands. "Here, give this to your Boss. He should have this for lunch." Vivian took Peter's hands and stuffed the meal in his hands when she noticed he was hesitant to collect the meal.
"Please give it to him. Make Sure he doesn't skip his lunch." She said softly.
Seeing Peter going through the packaged meal in the small nylon bag, Vivian knew what the young man was looking for in the packaged meal as she said to him. "Yours is in the other bag."
Peter raised a gaze at Vivian with a wide smile as his teeth showed off again. "Be rest assured that I will give this to him. So I should take my leave right now." Peter smiled sweetly again before leaving the restaurant.
Vivian could feel her cheeks burning as they flushed pink. She raised her hand and pulled the front short hairs behind her ears like a timid teenager.
On the other side of the kitchen, Kaylee was instructed what to do by the young lady from the counter.
"You have to be careful not to fall into Vivian's bad side, otherwise it won't be good for you." The young lady warned.
Kaylee smiled slightly at the young lady who seemed to welcome her wholeheartedly and appeared nice. "Thank you for your assistance. I will be careful."
"You can call me Mary and I will be happy to assist you in any way." Mary smiled back at Kaylee.
Kaylee smiled sweetly again at Mary who seemed to be three years younger than her.
"Thank you, Mary. I will call for your assistant if I need them." Kaylee said politely.
"Alright, I should leave now." Mary hurriedly left the kitchen before she would get nagged by Vivian.
Kaylee's gaze fell on the dozens of used dishes on the sink while others were still coming. Fortunately, she had been used to this when her mother's restaurant was blossoming in New Brunswick and then as she assisted her mother in the kitchen.
However, the problem here was that whatever gets broken would be paid with her salary and she thought to be extra careful like she promised to Vivian.
Kaylee picked up the glove and put it on before she began to wash the dishes. As Kaylee was washing, more was being brought to the kitchen.
Outside the restaurant, Peter grinned at the packed meal Vivian gave him earlier which he kept on the passenger seat in the front seat.
"Tsk, She is going crazy for him." Reminiscing the cold shoulder Vivian gave to him earlier, Peter frowned. "How could she be so mean to me? She should be nice to me to get what she wants. I'm the only key to open that fantasy world to those ladies out there without my help they can't go into that fantasy world." Peter lamented and boasted at the same time as he shook his head.
"I should get going before his flight lands, then I will have my lunch late," Peter muttered while fixing his seat belt.
Peter was done fixing the seat belt across his body and was about to start the car when he heard his cell phone ringing in his suit pocket. He brought out the cell phone from his suit pocket and quickly picked up the call when he saw the caller ID. His hands trembled a bit as his cell phone almost fell off while picking up his call.
Peter composed himself and cleared his dry throat before answering in a bold tone. "Hello, Sir." His lips pursed as he listened to the caller.
After the caller said a few words to Peter. Peter answered with a broad smile. "Okay, Sir. Please stay safe."
Just as the caller hung up, Peter felt his stomach about to explode with happiness. He was so happy that his strict and workaholic Boss won't return today.
Now he could have the meal all to himself and not need to stress himself while having a good sleep these few days.
"Life will seem to be fun in these few days!" Peter said to himself happily, placing his hands on the steering wheel.
.He stretched his back and felt his sore bones cracking into their place as he felt more relaxed.
The car engine started as Peter zoomed off from the restaurant area.
