Chapter 28 - Unfortunate News

"Papa, it has been almost a day since Kuya fell asleep. What should we do?" Jerry asked with a worried expression.

"We do nothing, my child." Fernando smiled bitterly.

Fernando was skeptical and anxious as well. After all, they had been waiting for almost a day.

Once the hunger strikes at noon, it indicates the time it passed.

And by that time, he couldn't be more anxious than now.

'Yeah, all we have to do is wait…' he could only hear his mumbling.

In the police station, all the police officers gathered in the police chief's room.

They were cramped inside, and with their bulky bodies, one would find it difficult to walk.

Regardless, they gathered in front of a woman who was way superior to them.

She, too, had a bulky body, sitting on her office chair while leaning her chin with both of her hands.

Her elbows lay on the table filled with paperwork she deemed useless.

With a solemn countenance, the gripping silence ensued until it was broken by a door's knock.

"Come in," ordered Elizabeth.

Everyone placed their attention to the door and paved the way when it opened.

A woman with a perfectly proportionate body and gorgeous face, with the sanguine hair swaying every movement she made, entered the room with a grave expression.

It was foreboding, affecting the people present's emotions, sensing their hearts palpitating in apprehension.

"Report," the woman shouted as soon as she arrived in front of Elizabeth.

The latter nodded, and the woman continued, "A Dimensional Portal appeared approximately on Luzon Street above. The citizens are now panicking, and it will be difficult to calm them down. In fifteen minutes, the Dimensional Portal will be completely open."

As much as the woman wanted to offer a suggestion, Elizabeth beat her into it.

"Issue a Rank B warning to the public," she ordered the woman.

She stood up, and the woman ambled to her side, sensing her intentions.

Elizabeth faced the police officer, who couldn't even meet her gaze.

They were barely Rank 2 Awakener, with some of them being Rank 3, but even so, they found their mind breaking once they attempted to begin an intense gazing competition with their Police Chief.

They didn't doubt her capabilities when she had been assigned a position they coveted.

After all, they recognized a person stronger than them, and they respected her a lot.

After sweeping her eyes, Elizabeth was a bit disappointed.

She was surprised, though, that Shanti lasted longer than them.

Ever since he was assigned as a person working under her, she doubted no more of his capabilities.

Therefore, she finally concluded.

"Deputy Chief Officer, Shanti," Elizabeth shouted, causing their ears to ring. "I will assign you to initiate a barrier in a 1-kilometer radius with the Dimensional Portal as the center. We can't let the monsters run amok. You have my permission to call for the special forces for backup. If they disagree, tell them I will obliterate them with my own hands."

Shanti didn't hesitate to nod and shouted back. "Consider it done, Police Chief!"

Special Forces were naturally a military group designed for his mission to create a barrier. That's why the Police Chief granted him permission to request for their backup.

However, he would never follow what his Police Chief had followed up, not if the Special Forces really disagreed with his request.

Shanti took the initiative to leave, and others soon followed him, understanding they would be following their Deputy Police Chief Officer.

However, they would find a chance to witness their Police Chief Officer's prowess once they saw her on the battlefield.

To be honest, the citizen's lives were indifferent to them because they came from the worst sectors.

Regardless, since it would affect the other sector if they neglected such a mission, then they had no choice but to do their best at least.

The only people left were the Police Chief Officer and her secretary, both possessing an even graver countenance.

Pressured by the awful silence, the secretary offered a chance to initiate a conversation with the context that had been bugging her mind.

"Did the eminence really reject it? I thought he would be sealing it until he died. Is he dying? What will become of our city now?" Her tone was filled with anxiousness.

Elizabeth was silent for a while and replied, "I will do my best to defend the city. Meanwhile, I will request help from the Government. Just me alone can't stand against a Rank A Dimensional Portal."

She dropped her butt to her comfortable office chair, leaning while exhaling stressful air, and closed her eyes.

She opened her mouth and continued, "I am confident in my abilities to defend a Dimensional Portal with the same rank as me. I shall hold on, and I hope you too. For the sake of the Wilham Country and for the sake of our future generation."

The secretary's emotion stirred.

She was actually helpless in this situation, if one based on the fact she was only a Rank 1 Awakening.

However, her specialization lay in her management, no matter if it was managing people, the police station, or even business.

One could even admit she was versatile in managing.

Although she was about to be tasked with something way more difficult, and the fact it would be quite a challenge because she hadn't experienced it, she was confident in her capabilities.

It all stemmed from her accumulated accomplishments.

"I am giving you a task to help, Shanti. He needs your assistance. He respects you a lot, so there will be no opposition, I hope."

The secretary was taken aback, as she didn't expect she had to cooperate with someone in such dire circumstances.

However, she couldn't reject her superior's proposal, as it was indeed a preferable suggestion.

"I shall take my leave, then. See you around, Ma'am!"

The woman didn't hesitate to leave after bidding farewell, not even waiting for Elizabeth's response.

She was a workaholic, and everyone was aware.

Of course, she couldn't be more than Elizabeth who had been executing the task every government had given to her.

Right now, the current task couldn't be more difficult than in the past, like hunting a Rank 5 criminal who assassinated politicians, instilling fear in them, or stopping a nuclear weapon that could threaten to annihilate her.

Those were not even the worst…

It was nothing compared to when she attempted to capture Elder White Beard after she sensed his domain…
