Chapter 22 - Chapter 22- Gigantic Fish And Nightmares

"Fishing?"

"Yeah. Grab this for me." Redd said as he gave Limmy a wooden stick. The latter grabbed it without realizing it.

"Grab this too and this and this." After giving him multiple things almost making Limmy stumble from the sheer weight, Redd closed his bag and then took them again.

After that, he took the wooden stick before he linked it to a white string. After tying a good knot, he took the hook and linked it with the line tightly before he stood up and held the stick with two hands as if he were checking its balance.

After that, he looked around for a moment as if he was searching for something. His eyes eventually landed on a seagull that was standing on the ship's handrail, resting after a long trip.

After that, Redd smiled as he arched his back and threw the fishing pole behind him. Then, he threw it forward at full force. The hook flew ahead sharply before it landed on the seagull.

The latter screeched before it flew away, cursing whoever did that to it.

"That's good enough." He murmured as he retracted the hook.

"Damn, you have some serious fishing skills, Redd." Limmy praised as he looked at what happened with a clear surprise.

"Hahahaha, I did fish a lot in the past whenever I couldn't hunt down a good prey. It's always easier." The boy replied before he approached the edge of the ship and then pulled out a small piece of bread he had. Then, he strapped that bait into the hook before throwing it into the sea beneath.

"How are you going to fish on a moving ship? Isn't that hard?"

"It's harder certainly. But, it's not impossible. You need a lot of luck and a lot of patience. It might even take hours to get a single fi- Oh! I got something!" Redd said as he suddenly started pulling the fishing pole.

A few seconds later, the bait showed up from under the water, holding a sizable fish that was frantically moving around.

"Do you have a bucket?" Redd asked.

"Why would I have a bucket?"

"Why wouldn't you?"

"..."

Without a bucket, Redd decided to use his shirt instead. So, he quickly undressed and laid the fish on that shirt before closing it to avoid the fish escaping.

Meanwhile, Limmy noticed the state of Redd's body. He was surprisingly in very good shape for his age. All his muscles seemed perfectly trained and pulsating with power. It contrasted his innocent-looking face and short stature.

'What an odd kid.' Limmy could only think.

"It seems the sea is fruitful today. We're gonna fish a load of fish!" Redd exclaimed before he threw the fishing pole into the sea again. A minute didn't even pass before another fish was caught then another one and another one after that. In a matter of 15 minutes, Redd was able to fill his shirt to the brim with fish.

"Dude! How are you getting this many?! Didn't you say it takes time?" Limmy blurted out after a while. He just couldn't hold it back after seeing this ridiculous show.

"Did I?"

"You did!"

"Hahahahaha! I guess luck is on my side today!" Redd laughed carefreely as he continued to fish as if it was nothing.

"..."

Time passed slowly as the two chatted casually about things.

"Where are you from, by the way, Limmy?"

"Winterdawn Island. It's from the southern parts of the northern seas."

"Oh! I did hear of that place! It's that island that's always cold, right?"

"Not always but yeah, it's winter there 9 months of the year."

"I love winter! Maybe I will visit your island in the future."

"It's not that good of a place, to be honest. Because it's winter most of the time, our only source of food is hunting. We can't sow anything in that place. Most of us are very poor and the rest can barely find anything to eat." Limmy shrugged as he rested his hands on the handrail, looking at the expanse of water around him.

"Is that the reason why you left that place for the Hunter's Dream?" Redd's smile slowly vanished as he asked a question.

"To be honest, when Butler first appeared in front of me, I was really skeptical. What he said I could achieve was just suspiciously good. He promised me money, fame, and power. He also promised me that I could save my family and village from the famish."

"..."

"Now, look at me. I can barely find any food to eat and I have to pay someone to even have the right not to be treated like an animal. I really thought the Hunter's Dream would be indeed a dream. Turns out it's just a sickening nightmare."

Redd went silent as he looked at Limmy. He really didn't know that this young man had such a tragic story.

"Sigh, but, on the bright side, if I can reach the Hunter's Dream, I can join a clan, become a hunter, and finally save my sister from death. All I have to do is bear with it for a few more months."

"I'm sure you will, Limmy! You already survived a few months on this ship, what's a few more months? Besides, I'm going to kill that Maleck guy or whatever his name."

"Hahahaha, you're very ambitious, friend."

As the two laughed together, suddenly, Redd felt a strong tug on his hand coming from the fishing pole. Immediately, his eyes turned serious as he looked down. Then, another stronger tig followed suit, almost throwing Redd down from the ship.

"Woah! This is a big one!"

Immediately, Redd jumped down from the handrail and started pulling with full force. However, the more he pulled, the stronger the force of whatever he caught became.

A war between him and the fish started. Redd's muscles expanded and contracted as he unleashed the full 21 points of strength he had. That power was more than 4 times that of the average person so it was not something that could be messed with.

Yet, he still couldn't pull the fish.

'Damn, what the hell is this beast? The wooden stick will break before I can pull it out.' Clenching his teeth, Redd decided to discard the wooden stick before he grabbed a hold of the string.

"Hey! Limmy! I need a hand here! We've caught a massive one!"

"Huh?"

"Hurry up! I'm losing it!" Redd yelled as he was being dragged toward the handrail again. His feet were rooted into the ground as he arched his back.

"O-Ok!" Limmy then quickly caught the wooden stick and started pulling along with Redd.

"A-Are you sure this string won't get severed from all this pulling?" He asked between his clenched teeth.

"It's sturdy… Hnnngh… It won't cut! Now pull!"

The two used all their force into this. Their feet glided on the wooden floor and the wooden stick was twisted far beyond its normal shape. However, neither of them stopped pulling. Luckily, after a fierce tugging war, a big silhouette emerged from within the depths of the sea and flew into the air. The giant fish swayed in the air as it covered the two boys in its shadow.

"Woah!!" Redd exclaimed as he put his hand on his forehead.

"O-Oi, Redd… Isn't that fish going to fall on us?"

"Run!" Before Limmy could even finish his sentence, Redd had already moved away, leaving the scrawny young man alone.

"AAAAH!!" Feeling the threat that was falling down on him, Limmy jumped away, a split second before the fish hit the deck.

*BANG*

The moment the fish landed on the ship, it made it sway a little.

"I'm almost fucking died!!" Limmy heaved up and down before he yelled.

"Hahahahaha! You're fine, you're fine!" Redd said before he focused on the gigantic thing he caught. "This is the biggest one I've ever caught! Woah! Lucky!"
