The whistling of the breeze, the rustling of the leaves, and the erratic heartbeat inside her chest were all that she could hear. She couldn't take her eyes off the man she thought was everything but a beauty. Just when she thought nobody was perfect, the sight in front of her, unraveled by the moonlight, proved Calista wrong.
"My lady…" Lola called, grabbing Calista by the arm and pulling her away from the duke. "Please stay away," she mumbled as she led them back inside.
"W-Why? I just want to—where did he go?" Calista asked, looking at the empty balcony. She was certain the duke was there a few moments ago. "Lola, did you see that? He's gone. I mean, he was here just now…" she said, running to the balcony to check.
Calista bit her lower lip as she looked around. She rushed to the railings and looked down, checking whether the duke fell. "He's not here," she mumbled and tried looking up instead.
