Chapter 1 - What Have I done

I layed in bed one night bored out of my mind. Sick and tired of doing the same thing over and over again. I wake up, get ready, go to work, do paperwork, go home and sleep every damn day! Even on my occasional weekend off I never know what to do. I never had many friends, so I would always just stay at home, or occasionally go for a walk. Sometimes a new food place opens up and I try it out, but that's the most I ever really do.

This day off I decided to play a game I haven't touched in a long time. "Would You Rather" was a game I played a lot as a kid. It was always interesting to see what the majority of the population picked. I booted up the game on my phone and began playing.

The first question I got was, would you rather:

"Be a dragon"

Or

"Have a dragon"

Well, being a dragon would be cool, but I'd probably be shunned by society as a monster.

Having a dragon though, I mean, is it a tiny pet dragon, or more like dragons from movies. If they're from movies, which ones, some dragons can be tamed, some not.

Either answer poses some risks, but it would be cool to have a dragon as a potential pet.

"Be a dragon" 20%

Or

"Have a dragon" 80%

Not surprised at that outcome... Next question

Would you rather:

"Have hair nowhere on your body"

Or

"Be very hairy all over your body and not be able to shave"

Being hairy all over your body would suck. You'd be itchy all the time and look like a worse Chewbacca.

At least if there's no hair, you can tell it off as a medical condition, you don't need to spend extra money on shampoo and conditioner, and you won't itch as much.

"Have hair nowhere on your body" 33%

Or

"Be very hairy all over your body and not be able to shave" 67%

I guess some people don't mind hair as much... Or they do want to look like a worse Chewbacca. Maybe even a werewolf, who knows, next question!

Would you rather:

"Be captured by pirates"

Or

"Be captured by a tribe in the jungle"

Being captured by a tribe in the jungle would be terrifying. They have their own dialects, rituals, customs and so on.

At least with pirates you may be able to become one, that would be cool.

"Be captured by pirates" 40%

Or

"Be captured by a tribe in the jungle" 60%

I can't think of a single reason anyone would want to be captured by a tribe... Eh, moving on.

Would you rather:

"Start World War 3"

Or

"Start an apocalypse"

Wars are arguably worse than an apocalypse. With wars some people are forced to serve while others can continue living their posh lives. Why should some people be excluded due to their status, it's not fair!

At least with an apocalypse everyone gets drafted into the chaos. It doesn't matter if you're famous, rich, or anything. Everyone is equally as fucked as the other.

"Start World War 3" 49%

Or

"Start an apocalypse" 51%

Not surprised, they're both pretty bad answers... Next question...

"Congratulations, you broke the 7 year long tie of that question. Read over your newly made bio, and get ready for the chaos to unfold. "

"This is freaking me out a bit, I'm done with this app for the night, I'll just play a game on my computer or something... "

As I close the app an icon pops up in the center of my vision. It's a loading icon of sorts. I look around my room, and it's always at the center of my vision. I blinked multiple times fast, and it was still there. I tried rubbing my eyes and nothing.

"Oh shit... This is actually happening isn't it..." I thought in a panic "At least I have 7 hours to prep, what to get though"

I grabbed a piece of paper and started jotting stuff down.

1. Lot's of fresh water just in case

(Also get a good filter or more for the long run)

2. Nonperishable yet well rounded food.

(Grab cans of beef, chicken, tuna, and oysters for meat. Grab cans of peas, carrots, corn, and spinach for vegetables. And grab bags of rice, noodles, oatmeal, and grits for long term dry foods.)

3. Survival tools

(Flint and steel, zippo lighter and fluid, butane torches, some refillable butane lighters, and cans of butane for starting fires. A sturdy high quality knife. I'll also need to grab ammo for my guns. Ways to mask my scent also may be needed)

4. Protective clothing

(Padded and durable clothes like motorcyclists wear, flame retardant clothes like welding supplies, camo clothes because mine don't fit me anymore, and a couple pairs of protective gloves)

5. Swing by my local fire hall and grab anything useful

(Like a mask and oxygen tanks, the protective outfit in place of welding clothes since they're more durable and any other tools that may come in use)

6. Shelter

(Find a place easily protected, low to the ground in case of collapse, and an open layout in case I need to remodel as needed. If all else fails my motel I live in can work)

"Time to get to work" I say as I fold up my list and head out.

My first stop was my local Walmart for food and water. I guess I wasn't the only one who got a notification about the apocalypse because everyone along the streets seemed to be in a massive panic. I wasn't in a big rush though. We have 7 hours to prepare, and I have 5 places to get supplies from.

1. Walmart: food, water, ammo

2. Lowes: water filter, tools, torches, building supplies

3. My local sporting store for camo, scent blockers, and ammo

4. Gas station: gas, butane, lighter fluid, lighters

5. Fire department: flame retardant clothes, and other tools

Actually, I should go to the gas station first before they shut off the pumps. After I got there I grabbed every gas jug, paid with my soon to be useless credit card and filled them all up along with my truck.

I went inside and found no one was working the counter. I broke the display grabbing every lighter, and every ounce of lighter fluid I could find. I then went to the back room and grabbed the key for the propane rack. After grabbing all the necessities, I threw them in my truck, and drove off.

Next up was Walmart, and as soon as I arrived I knew it was gonna be interesting. People were running in and out with anything they could get their hands on food wise. I decided to change my plans a bit. I grabbed a bunch of camera systems, and a couple of their PC's they had lying around. I grabbed multiple just in case one was broken. I also swung by the sporting section and grabbes any ammo I needed, nothing more. I then swung by the canned produce section and found it nearly wiped clean aside from some cans of spinach and mixed vegetables. I grabbed what was left and walked out of the store with everything in my cart. I hid the cans under the boxes of cameras and stuff so they wouldn't get stolen. I then threw everything in my truck and headed off to Lowes.

It was a little less crowded there, but no less chaotic. I grabbed every filter system I could find along with replacement filters. Apparently not many people are thinking about the long run. After that I grabbed the 3 butane torches that were left, and any battery powered tool that I might need. I decided since I didn't have to worry about paying for anything I grabbed all milwaukee tools since they were the best built tools I know of. I ended up grabbing a drill, an impact drill, a circular saw, and a grinder. I then grabbed every battery I could get my hands on, and every single drill bit, nail, grinding pad, wire grinder attachment, and anything else I'd need for those tools. I also grabbed every charger I could get for the batteries along with some power strips and extension cords. After that I grabbed some wire fencing with the smallest holes I could find. After that I grabbed some tarps and bungee cords, along with a bunch of nails and screws. I also grabbed a sledge hammer in cas a remodel was needed. I then grabbed a "buddy heater" (it's a surprisingly good small propane heater) and a propane adapter so I would have a heat source if and when needed. My cart was full after that so I dropped everything off in my truck and decided to head to The Home Depot for other supplies. As I pulled out I heard gunshots, but never looked back. I'm not taking any risks

After getting to Home Depot it wasn't too busy, so I grabbed 3 generators with a high fuel efficiency and an AVR (Automated Voltage Regulation) for even more fuel efficiency. I then grabbed a caulk gun and a ton of silicon tubes in case I needed to waterproof or seal anything. I then found some sound proofing panels and grabbed every one I could. I then grabbed a bunch of wood sheets and a couple of water pumps. I also picked up some pump pressure switches that shut off automatically if the pressure gets too low so they don't burn out. I also grabbed a bunch of tubing for the pumps and made sure they would fit the pumps and water filters. After that I went off to my local sporting store and grabbed all the ammo I needed once again. I figured it would be rude to grab ammo that I won't ever need. I also grabbed a reloading station and the subsequent needed supplies for it. The powder, bullets, casings, etc. Were all in big heavy containers so it took me a while to load all of them up. After that I grabbed a couple of knives and went off to the fire department for the rest of the stuff I may need.

After I got there I grabbed all the jackets and boots I could, and every SCBA (Self-contained Breathing Apparatus) I could. My truck was full to the brim to the point where I was surprised at how much I could fit in there. I got back to my motel room and dropped off everything I could. I used my newly acquired sledge hammer to break in to the management office and grab the spare key that unlocked every door in the motel. I also grabbed the chart that showed who was living in each motel room.

Turns out I didn't have anyone living in the room to my right, so I tore down the drywall with my sledgehammer and moved everything in the room to a corner so I could fit more into the room.

After unloading my truck into the newly expanded room, I went off to the sporting store once more and it was still completely empty. I guess most people forgot about the little store, but that's fine by me. I grabbed every gun I could fit in my truck along with every ammo box I could get, and every wooden gun rack I could find. I then went back to my motel and started unpacking and reorganizing.
