Chapter 46 - Chapter 46 - Entrance Party [1]

A/N: my daily metrics graph has turned into a cos graph from the inconsistencies 😭

Mutations. I understood where he was taking this. He was suggesting that my regeneration resulted in an increased frequency of mutations.

"I believe your bones are in coated in an enamel, the enamel is what coats your teeth, it's the most durable substance produced in the human body. And, that substance is wrapped around your bones, making then more durable. What that means is that you're essentially undergoing an accelerated evolution. As you regenerate more, your body will mutate further due to mistakes made during cell replication, resulting in more adaptations. I'm not sure if you'll develop any unfavourable mutations though, though, I doubt it's something to worry about."

I nodded my head, but this didn't explain why my body got stronger after each regeneration.

"That doesn't explain my stronger muscles and bone density, does it?"

He shook his head.

"No. It doesn't. I believe that's a direct result of your magic, the mutations and adaptations are something that happen due to chance. The increased strength of your body is something I don't understand. I'm assuming the increase in power is very small, due to Arcane Magic users being so rare and so Mana intensive, you're probably the only one who's been healed by it enough to notice the strength gains. But anyways, you should go to the party, you can ask some of the Arcane Mages we have on standby about it if you want, they might know something. This old man has things to do."

And with that, I got up and walked away from the principal. As I walked, I could feel his gaze on my back. The old man really seemed to have taken an interest in me. Not that it was a bad thing.

'Mutations that result in beneficial adaptations, what a handy ability. Every species has adaptations that help them survive, whether it's thermoregulation, the ability to produce poison, an extra appendage or increased physical abilities. With my regeneration, my body will continue to change and evolve. Though I won't dare to complain about such a power, I wish I could choose what to adapt to. The enamel strengthening my bones is probably pretty helpful, but if I could adapt to specific things that would've been better.'

Reinhardt, that was the man who was the topic of conversation among the group of friends that I had just made. All of us were nobles, albeit, low ranked ones. But, we were still of noble blood. We were better than commoners, we were genetically dispositioned to be better.

But, Reinhardt, a mere commoner that I wouldn't normally spare a glance at. He was annoying, not for any particular reason, I just didn't like him.

"Commoners are just wild beasts who serve nobles. And, if we're being honest, no matter how strong he is it's not like he'll ever be worth anything. Commoners with talent end up serving nobles, and end up having no authority anyways."

As I spoke, I noticed the faces of the people I was talking to darkening, they began to sweat.

"What's up with you lot? There's no way you're scared of him, sure he's strong. I'm not dumb enough to deny that, but there's no need to be scared of a guy with no authority. He can't touch us. He won't."

Then, I heard a voice. The voice sounded somewhat amused.

"Wanna bet?"

'Ah. He's behind me, isn't he?"

Then, I turned around, and looked up. There was a man, flying. He had a black, winter cloak wrapped around his body, his long, white hair fluttered almost gracefully.

"I don't mind if you talk about me behind my back, just don't expect me to not retaliate. But, I'll let it go this time. This whole scenario's pretty funny after all, it's kinda cliche though."

When I blinked, the man in the air had left, leaving behind a gust of wind that messed up my hair.

I turned my head, and looked at my group of friends, and smiled awkwardly.

"Okay, maybe he's a bit scary."

Laughing to myself, I flew to the entrance of the room the party was being held at. It seemed that nobles really did hate commoners stronger than them in these fantasy worlds that authors write about. How funny.

But, it's nothing to worry about. They have backing, but they can't really use it here. But, it's not like I can throw a tantrum and fight them.

Not without a reason anyways.

And so, I entered the room, my stomach rumbling in hunger.
